    I’ve finally moved from Afghanistan….

  • wally1976 says:

OT – as a data point – I applied for an Amex SPG card only 4 months after cancelling my last one and they have refused me the welcome bonus. No complaints of course, I took a gamble and it didn’t pay off!

    • Mikee says:

I accidentally applied 1 day before my 6 month churn date had elapsed and didn’t get the bonus either. The spend calculator bar didn’t change with any purchases and when I called them, they told me I couldn’t get the bonus, even being just 1 day outside the 6 month window.

      • Genghis says:

There were previous reports of someone doing it every few months and getting the bonuses. I guess Amex have clamped down.

  • Andrew says:

I booked a flight early hours of this morning (just after midnight) and the surcharge was still there

  • PT says:

Curiously the BA credit card surcharge wasn’t applied when I did a 2-4-1 booking on Sunday night.

I don’t know whether it had anything to do with me successfully suing BA in the small claims court for not refunding the credit card charge when I had a cancelled booking last year, but I was actually expecting to pay the 1% and didn’t have to.

  • Lister says:

Hard to get excited. My weekly BA flight of £128.13 including the credit card surcharge has now gone up to £130 with no credit surcharge.

  • Lewis says:

Just my luck booked on sunday

  • Anna says:

OT – is it possible to pre-book airport lounges as as Lounge Club member? I have some free passes from Amex gold and want to use them on the late Bank Holiday weekend in May but the T3 Escape lounge is very likely to be full when we arrive!

    • Anna says:

      At MAN.

    • Rob says:

Only No 1 allows this, as far as I know.

      • Anna says:

Thanks…probably bring a picnic then as T3 is generally dire and heaving at peak times. Also refuse to pay for BOB. But have got RFS flights to Nice on Monaco Grand Prix weekend so otherwise very happy! And a week at Eurocamp on the French Riviera for considerably less than going to a similar (probably rainy) site in the UK.

  • Cuchlainn says:

OT – TESCO PREMIER MC :
Just received offer of 5,000 CCpoints to sign up via special link. Read full T&Cs and this is in addition to 5,000 CC points after you spend £5K pa – all other benefits and fees are same.

Is this worth a punt with extra 5,000 CC points now, as could easily put £5K diesel and groceries through pa ?

    • Lumma says:

If you use the 5000 Clubcard points for uber credit you’re getting £150 worth of value which would cover the annual fee for the first year

      • Rob says:

I’ve had a few emails about this. My view – as the Uber credit equals the fee, do it for a year (especially if you can use the travel insurance and you haven’t got a grandfathered Visa or MC offering a better deal).

Personally … I wouldn’t. I have travel insurance, I don’t spend £5k in Tesco and I have grandfathered Visa and MasterCard products which get me a better return than 0.6 Avios per £1. Even with the £150 fee being offset by £150 of Uber credit it simply isn’t worth padding out my credit card pile.

        • Cuchlainn says:

Thanks Lumma but Uber is a non starter for me practically.

          Rob,
          See where you’re coming from but 5,000 points ( initial link offer ) + 5,000 points ( 1 point for £5K spend on daily shop / fuel ) + bonus of 5,000 points for spending £5k = 15,000 CC points, which converts to 60 x £2.50 Avios / BAEC vouchers = 36,000 Avios.

Yes it costs me £5k plus £150 fee to get 36,000 but I need to get food on the table and diesel in the car but that gives me a 2 x pax return DUB to ACE ( 34,000 Avios ) for approx £150 tax ????????

        • Cuchlainn says:

But debit card has no bonuses : 5,000 x 2 ( if you get Tesco link sent by them ).
