Radisson Rewards, the loyalty scheme for Radisson, Park Plaza and Park Inn, is offering a 75% bonus when you buy points, however few or many points you buy.

The link is here.  The offer ends TODAY, 22nd April.

This deal does potentially offer value if you redeem in the right places on expensive nights.

The maximum number of points you can purchase is 70,000 (40,000 + 30,000 bonus) for $280.  That is £200.

The key London hotels such as Park Plaza Westminster Bridge – a relatively new London property with a pool and next to the London Eye, London Dungeon, London Aquarium etc – are 70,000 points per night, so £200.  I reviewed that hotel here.

The May Fair (which I reviewed here, and didn’t like much) is also 70,000 points.

At the more prosaic end of the scale, there are various Park Inn budgets hotels around the UK for 15,000 points per night.  Under this promo, 15,000 points would cost you £43 based on the pro-rata price of 70,000.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

This Accor offer highlights a big problem with the scheme. They don’t allow current bookings to count towards new bonuses, unlike other hotel groups (likes Hilton). You have to cancel and rebook.
They must spend a lot on these promos but end up upsetting people.

    • Lady London says:

Yup. I had very nicely priced nights booked in Barcelona. When a good promotion came out 2 or 3 weeks later the price quoted for nights I had booked had close to doubled. Rebooking at the new price would have wiped out the entire value of the promotion.

I decided to cancel that entire trip to Barcelona. It was an optional detour off a trip that I regularly do. I can do it another time when Accor or another hotel group has decent pricing combined with a promotion.

      • Nick says:

I don’t think some people understand the point of this kind of promotion (if you’ll pardon the pun)… they’re trying to upsell and/or convince you to travel when you wouldn’t otherwise. You were totally happy to book at a lower reward rate, so why would they want to pay you a higher reward when they don’t have to? I’m sure HFP readers who know how to game the system aren’t Accor’s ‘typical’ customer.

        • Peter K says:

I understand they are trying to get extra people to book due to higher rewards but I making the point that if you are loyal and book in advance you miss out on the promos which then makes you annoyed and then less loyal. You hold off booking Accor until a promo comes along then you might decide to book a different hotel brand which doesn’t require as much effort.

I am due to be in Cardiff next month on a Saturday evening when hotels are typically £150+. Bought some Radisson points in this sale and got the Park Inn for £70 (approx 28k points) versus £140 cash price. Very pleased with that.

  • Paulm says:

OT-on IHG, any one have any idea on their policy for resort fees on points stays? Specifically the Crowne Plaza Times Square.

    • Rob says:

If there is one, it will show very clearly on the website when you try to book a cash room. Don’t think IHG currently has any in New York.

      • paulm says:

Thanks Rob, yes shows they charge $30, but just wondered if they waive on points stays as some others do.

    • Dr Tom says:

I last stayed there about a year ago. At the time, they waived the resort fee.

Does purchasing club carlson points extend the life of your balance?

  • AndyR says:

OT For ATM withdrawals on the Curve card abroad (after setting currency of card to local currency), does the £200 limit per month apply? So after £200 for each withdrawal I would pay £2 fee + 2% fee?

    • Peter K says:

Fees apply on all curve withdrawals abroad if the underlying card is in £. Some say they haven’t been charged but I have the two times I tried it, in Sweden and Barbados.

      • AndyR says:

Apparently if you set the currency of the card to the local currency on a card with no foreign transaction fees (e.g. Lloyds) you avoid some of the fees.

  • Rob says:

Might be – don’t know what the underlying number is – but there is a link in the sidebar on desktop / tablet or in the IHG section of our Hotel Promos Page. Thank you.

  • Emma says:

Thanks for the tipoff on the Radisson sale!

My partner and I had used the points from our two Amex Gold cards to book two weekend nights in Edinburgh in August at the G&V Royal Mile (now the Radisson Collection Hotel, Royal Mile Edinburgh). We’ve now added a third night after buying points in the sale (which posted immediately, incidentally).

£200 plus ~50,000 Amex points as opposed to £400 * 3 nights (which we never would’ve been prepared to pay!) – very happy with that outcome.

  • slonik says:

OT – For IHG accelerate, if my target is “stay one night”, does anyone know whether a reward night stay would count?
