Ethiopian Airlines has announced a new service between Manchester and Addis Ababa.  The flight will be operated by a Boeing 787 with Economy and Business Class cabins (see picture below).

The four-weekly service will launch on 1st December 2018.  This will not be a direct flight as it is transiting via Brussels.

This is highly likely to mean that stand-alone Manchester to Brussels tickets will be available which will allow you to fly between the two cities in Business Class with a fully flat bed.

Ethiopian is a member of Star Alliance so there will be various redemption options available via Singapore Airlines, Miles & More, United etc.  We may be tempted to give it a go.

Your best option to maximise your miles when paying is American Express Preferred Rewards Gold.  This offers double points – 2 per £1 – when you when you book flight tickets directly with an airline.  Our review of Amex Gold is here.

ET is consolidating its position in the sub-saharan african market….left KQ a long long way behind!!

  • Tim says:

Does anyone know if the current 25% Amex to Flying Blue transfer bonus offer applies in the UK?
I have seen a few articles about it, but I can’t see any information when I look at it on my Amex account.

    • Rob says:

No. Amex UK has stopped doing them. They don’t want you redeeming for airline miles as it literally costs them twice as much as you redeeming for a Starbucks gift card.

Just seen this in the Sun. Has the potential to cause a few problems if people follow the advice. Just pick your luggage up in LHR on the way back, no mention of risk or safety margins on the way out.

Thanks. Am dropping the Sun lady a note.

Our work web filtering blocks access to the The Sun website, presumably due to “Incidental Nudity”… just about sums it up 🙂

Hi Anika – Is there likely to be a 250 points to £5 voucher redemption this month, same as May last year?

  • Roger says:

OT- I know this is repeated many times before. For car hire insurance if the hire company does not accept Amex, Is my platinum car hire insurance still valid?

    • Rob says:

You don’t need to pay with Amex to be covered for the car hire. At all.

The only benefit is that, if you do have an accident, Amex can see what you were billed so you don’t have to mess about submitting statements from another card company.
