Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Important dates for your diary – offers about to close which you shouldn’t miss (May 2018)

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Here is the latest edition of our regular feature which summarises offers that are ending soon.

It pulls together the different deals mentioned on our Top Avios Points Earning Offers, Top Hotel Bonus Points Offers and Top UK Credit Card Offers pages.

Miles and points offers which are about to close

I would highlight the 35% discount on buying SPG points as the key one as this is likely to be the last time we see this offer before the scheme is merged with Marriott Rewards.  The other big deals closing – 8,000 Virgin miles with an ISA, two big Economist deals – come and go on a regular basis.

Remember that the offer of 2,500 Heathrow Rewards points from any hotel booking via the Rocketmiles site (ends Thursday) is actually worth 2,500 Avios, Virgin, Lufthansa, Emirates, Singapore or other airline miles.

Last day for 12,000 Miles & More miles with The Economist.

This offer looks not available now at economist page

    Totally Off Topic.
Qatar just added over 50% to the QMiles cost of most redemptions, effective immediately.

600,000 points suddenly worth a lot less and these were collected the hard way with my own money, not employer spend. The value of them was factored into my choosing to fly with Qatar. I have earned & burned QMiles, enjoying some redemptions but clearly not enough 🙁

Outragous they have given no notice.

I know I can turn these 600k QMiles into Accor hotel vouchers of about €2,500 Euros but are there any other hotel schemes I can transfer to at a better rate ??

They were worth about £7k I’d say in Qatar miles when used for biz at full price however that figure almost halves when you consider Qatar were often doing really rather cheap biz fares a couple of times a year (like £1k to BKK).

I am going to transfer my QMiles out today as I don’t know when they’ll worsen the transfer rates to partners.

If the airline partner booking process was simpler (not a crappy form to fill in and wait 3 days for a response) I’d look at using the points on some other OneWorld airlines.

    Not happy at all.

So without using them on Qatar flights, can I get better value than €2500 transferring them to a different partner ????

This is what I shall spend today researching.
Any advice, info or tips would be greatly recieved.
    Cheers.

Does the 35% SPG offer immediately restart? It seems near permanent, or is that my imagination.

    • Rob says:

No, it’s not that common. With the schemes merging in August I’d be surprised if they did it again before then, although you never know.

Does anyone know how long the Amex to SPG transfer takes? Set up my account last week but it’s still pending

        • Genghis says:

There’s two stages. Set up might be instant or take a day or so. My wife and I then did Amex->SPG (accounts already set up) and took 1 day (PM to PM UK time)

Has any other Qatar Privilege Gold/Plat members noticed that all the award upgrade rates have been increased when using Q credits?..eg MAN – BKK very recently was 40 Q credits to upgrade econ to biz, but now its gone up to 46. As there is no other way to earn Q credits apart from getting them at Tier renewal (40 and 60 respectively for Gold and Plat), then the 40 Q credits for Gold now becomes hugely devalued……upgrade now only poss MAN – DOH for 28 Q credits, leaving you with a useless 12 Q credits. I think definitely worth a look at why Qatar is progressively reducing benefits for Privilege members…anybody else noticed this recent change?

I know some people have mentioned that they did not automatically receive avios in their IB account after staying in Melia hotels. Just to let you know that it might be worth checking your account as this week I have finally received mine, transaction is dated 2nd Feb. Who knows where they have been in that time. I didn’t contact either Melia or IB about it, as I know how hopeless IB customer service is so I am pleased they have arrived. Now, I just need to get them safely to BAEC. IB lost over 3000 of my avios on a previous transfer which I have never got back.
