British Airways improves Club Europe business class food …. but only to Madrid

If you are flying in British Airways Club Europe to Madrid at any time soon, you will be pleasantly surprised by the food.

For the last few weeks, Madrid has been treated as a ‘long’ flight instead of a ‘medium’ one.  This means that you get a four course meal – small starter, a main, cheese and biscuits and a dessert.

This is apparently a trial for the next round of Club Europe food changes, after the bodged changes last year which saw catering on some key routes downgraded to fund improvements elsewhere.  It seems that we may see all ‘medium’ flights moving to the four course model.

According to cabin crew reports on Flyertalk, the Madrid route may have been chosen for the trial because of all the IAG executives shuttling between the two cities and who were fed up with the current meals.

That is unlikely although it seems odd that BA would trial improvements on a route where IAG faces absolutely no competition for Business Class passengers …..

OT- club world seat selection- as a lowly blue I’ve got the choice of a centre row isle seat or mid row seat. It’s an over night flight so I don’t want to be disturbed. I’m thinking centre would be preferable to isle… any views?

    • Nigel says:

No, no views at night, especially from non window seats! ????

  • Ben says:

    *aisle…

  • Sam G says:

787/A380 upper deck or a centre pair on another type?

The former then the “middle middle” is v private for sleeping and not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The latter I find sharing with a stranger not great, so would probably go for the aisle

When you check in online don’t produce the BP and check back a couple of times, things do shift around and you might get to pick something better before you get to the airport

  • Nigel says:

You will not be disturbed in any window ak or mid row seats all of which are rear facing. However, if you have an aisle seat then you will have someone climbing over your legs when flat bedded to get to wherever they are going unless you are aisle in row 10 which is the front row of club on a BA 777 and highly recommended!! ????

  • Beads says:

Fly a different airline is the best answer. BA make me ashamed to be British.

    • Andreas says:

Quite strong feelings, just because of an airline…? Its not that bad!

    • TGLoyalty says:

Really isn’t that bad at all

      • Matt says:

I guess you’re incredibly fickle if you’re willing to revoke your pride in your nation because of BA (which actually isn’t that bad anyway).

    • Catalan says:

      Utter nonsense Beads!

  • KBuffett says:

OT – Inspired by Rob, I’ve been doing mattress runs at Moxy Heathrow in order to gain Platinum. I thought I’d share that the hotel is quite funky, lots of loud music on a Saturday night in the bar area that doubles up as the reception/check in desk!! Rooms are modern and clean.
No feee breakfast for Marriott Gold Card holders.
    No upgrade!

    • Nick_C says:

The Moxy at Royal Albert is really good, and less than 15 minutes walk to LCY.

Love the big TV set up for casting.

Room is like a luxurious HIX.

    • Rob says:

You will get brekky from August.

      • KBuffett says:

Do you think Bvgalri hotels will be redeemable etc from August?

        • Rob says:

No, they seem to be totally outside the entire Rewards structure.

  • Michael Blaise says:

I fly BA from Heathrow to Larnaca five times a year. As a lowly blue BA excetitive member I get put into centre seats at the back of the plane. Although this must be the longest Eurpeon flight its still considered short haul and therefore no on board service. Why on earth do I fly BA ? Well the timings are good and it’s from Heathrow.
So if Madrid can get on board food service then Larnaca should also enjoy this service.

    • TGLoyalty says:

The food service is in club Europe not economy

    • Crafty says:

You appear to have missed that it’s a route that’s been chosen for a trial. A trial is, by definition, limited in scope.

  • TripRep says:

    Too easy… 🙂

      Thanks TripRep! That was fast!
