Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam

IHG bought the Kimpton brand, a quirky American West Coast hotel chain with a hugely devoted following, in 2014.

Kimpton De Witt is the first outpost to open in Europe.  It is a conversion of the old Crowne Plaza hotel near Centraal Station, although you wouldn’t recognise it once you step inside.

It will be followed soon by a Kimpton in central Paris and there are plans to convert some of the UK Principal hotels – which IHG has just bought – to the brand.

I stayed at the Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam a few weeks ago and can honestly say that the hotel has overcome its teething problems.  Some of you might remember Rob’s review of his slightly chaotic stay just after the hotel opened.

Here are some pictures I took:

A Head For Points special offer for every reader

We have teamed up with IHG to offer our readers 5,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club points when staying at the Kimpton De Witt this year.

The 5,000 points are worth £20 based on our current IHG Rewards valuation of 0.4p.  It makes this a lucrative deal especially for one night stays.

Importantly, this does NOT impact any other promotion.  You will also get your points for the current Accelerate promotion on top of the 5,000 bonus points.

Even more importantly, all publicly available rates count for this offer.  You don’t need to book a more expensive rate than you otherwise would.

You can earn the bonus as many times as you want during the promotional period.

How to get the 5,000 bonus points

You must book via this link in order to get 5,000 bonus points. If you book via any other page on the IHG website you will not get the bonus.

Here is the Kimpton De Witt homepage if you want to take a look at the hotel, but remember that you must book on the Head For Points special offer page.

For clarity, the bonus points do not count towards elite status.

Your Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam stays must be booked by 31st July and completed by 31st December 2018.

You can find out more about the hotel in our review here.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Kimpton Monaco in Philadelphia. We were lucky to get a suite for 55k points in the confused upload of Kimpton rewards availability. All I can say is that it was a pleasure to stay there. Wonderful hotel in a great city. Kimpton wine hour is something more hotels should adopt.

I was at Kimpton Monaco Chicago last month in an upgraded river view room. Overall, very decent though the leopard skin robe not quite to my tastes. I’d stay at the brand again.

  • Frenzie says:

    It is a good offer.
However the brand new Holiday Inn Express in Amsyerdam is bookable for 20000 points which is an even better value.

I have booked a stay there coming up in a months time.

    • Peter K says:

Surely you are comparing apples with pears. Completely different level of hotel and comparing a cash rate with a reward rate.

      • Frenzie says:

You are correct, and this time it is really worth to compare those apples to oranges because the apples are so cheap.

I needed a nice hotel in Amsterdam. And whilst normally I would not stay in a Holiday Inn Express, it is so cheap (20000 points), and actually one of the prettiest one out there, that I would recommend to book this instead of the Kimpton.

Interestingly the 2 hotels cash rates are similar but on some days the Holiday Inn is more expensive.

If you are booking with cash, the Kimpton is a no brainer.
If you have points, skip the Kimpton and go with Holiday Inn Express.

I haven’t stayed at HIE or Kimpton, but I’m confident that the Amstel gets my vote everytime. And I’m heading back there in August for my second trip this year.

I think there are quite a few people who (for a better price) just want a clean, “chain” standard hotel room… Especially well located ones in capital cities.

  • ChrisC says:

I stayed at the De Witt last summer And thought it was a very good hotel.

Lots of Americans though on tour groups all with badges that say “HI! Ny name is xxxx” and all their life documents in a pouch around their necks though!

The evening wine / nibbles reception was also very good with proper finger food not just crisps etc

Good location between Amsterdam Centraal Station and Dam Square so very good location.

  • JR says:

I’ve been clicking on the special link but nothing happens. It takes me to IHG page which gives me t&cs and says I can book via HfP link but I can’t do anything else. Am I missing something?

    • Rob says:

It could be clearer, I admit.

When you click the link there is a booking box on the page. Search for the hotel via that box, book and you’ll get the extra 5000 points. You’ll see some extra code in the URL – this is what tells IHG you clicked through from the offer page. We can fix this easily with IHG if you use the special link, book and there are any issues.

  • JR says:

    Thanks Rob. Got it.
