SAVE THE DATE: Head for Points Summer Party, Tuesday 3rd July

It’s happening! After having hosted successful Christmas parties over the last two years, we’re finally doing a Summer Party.

We are currently in the process of finalising everything but we can announce that we will be taking over The Glasshouse room at the Holiday Inn Camden Lock.  Because, let’s be honest, you haven’t been to Camden Market for years ….

Holiday Inn Camden Lock

The Glasshouse is a very bright room with a huge window front facing the canal – it is the ground floor space on the photo above.  It is a lovely spot for a Summer event.

The venue stretches over two floors with its own private bar and has a capacity of 250. This means we can host 100 more readers than at our Christmas parties.  We are paying for security so we can also open the doors to an outside area by the water.  Not sure why we need a security guard for this but that’s the hotel rule ….

We want our Summer party to be a more casual event.  There won’t be any (major) speeches and there won’t be a lengthy raffle.

There will be a full cash bar with normal Camden prices, which means £5ish for a beer, and a couple of sitting areas.

Because we need to ensure that people who ask for tickets turn up, we will be charging for tickets.

The party will be 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday 3rd July.  The bar will remain open for a while after 8pm for anyone who wants to stay longer, and of course there are no shortage of bars and restaurants in Camden if you want to carry on your evening elsewhere.

Tickets are £10 including VAT and will go on sale later this week.  This is half of the price of the Christmas party but we are not including any drinks this time.  If we can line up a headline sponsor in the next week or so then that may change ….

We will publish more details in another article in a couple of days.

There will be 250 tickets available. We hope that the larger venue will give more readers the chance to join us and also slow down the ticket sale process so they don’t all go in two minutes as at Christmas …..

We hope that you can come along to meet Rob and myself and to talk miles, points, credit cards and travel with other readers.  Bring a friend or come by yourself – you won’t struggle to find someone to share your stories with.

If the ticket sales don’t go as well as at Christmas, then it shows that there’s a lot of heavy drinkers on the site.

Presumably we’ll get double points on the IHG cards at the event 🙂

    • Rob says:

There might be some free drink but we need to sort out a sponsor.

      • Lumma says:

I think it’s a better idea anyway, due the demand last time. Probably won’t be able to attend due a to friend visiting me in London that night and I don’t think it would be his scene. Although he should come, as we’ll be lounge hopping in terminal 3 the next morning due to this site

  • Craig says:

Count me out, I’ll be on my way to Gran Canaria as you start and on my way back as you all start to get merry.

  • Alex Dickinson says:

Will be my first time at any HFP “event” can’t wait to meet some people who wanna talk about this constantly…:)

  • Willy Wonga says:

    £5 ish for a pint…….

For a fiver up north you can expect 2 pints and a bag of scratchings!!!

We’ll show you how to party up north!!

    • Rob says:

Where my mum lives you can get a 3-course meal for £5.99. It is crap, obviously, but .,,.

      • Genghis says:

That’s pricy! I saw £4.99 when I was seeing my Grandad in Middlesbrough at the weekend

  • AndyGWP says:

I will be getting hot and sweaty in the Deep South, having used my BA 2-for-1 to redeem for a direct first class flight out there a few days before, and CW back a few weeks after. (Thanks Rob ????????????)

I’ll make it to one of these shin-digs one day. Enjoy all!

  • Alex says:

So, just for clarity – there will be NO raffle this time, right? Just networking

    • Rob says:

We are promoting it on that basis, in the same way that we are also saying ‘no free drinks’ but, if we can get some sponsorship, there will be some free drinks.

If we can get something off IHG then we’ll raffle that too, but we’re not planning to run a massive 25 minute raffle as we did at Christmas. I am, personally, unhappy about putting pressure on our friends in the trade more than once a year to provide something.

We also had a LOT of complaints at Christmas from people who couldn’t get tickets and who felt that some people were coming purely for 2-hours of free sparkling wine and the chance to pick up £5,000-worth of raffle prizes which we were spreading between just 130 people. (If you came with a partner you had a better than 1-in-3 chance of winning.) We will be going back to that format for Christmas 2018 but we thought we’d do this one differently – frankly, we also don’t have the time as I am out of the country for 75% of the working days between next Monday and party day.

  • Sam says:

I was going to leave it to others after having got tickets for the Xmas do, but then you pick somewhere a 10 minute drunken stroll home…!

  • eeBAgum says:

I have to be honest, while I am admittedly a bit of a grump when sober, I do perk up after a couple of bevvies so I’m not TERRIBLE company !!

But the thought of spending a few hours in the Camden Holiday Inn talking about frequent traveler programs (which are all currently on the decline) turns me into a deeply anti-social git.

So I will leave you to it, and the best of British luck 🙂
