Five UK Marriott hotels, mainly country clubs, are to leave the chain

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Five UK Marriott hotels are leaving the chain in two weeks, despite being included on the new points pricing list from August.

These are:

  • Sunderland Marriott
  • Newcastle Marriott Gosforth Park
  • Hollins Hall Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Shipley
  • Meon Valley Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Southampton
  • Sprowston Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Norwich

The last day that these hotels will operate under the Marriott brand is 18th July.

These hotels were recently for sale – I don’t know if a deal was concluded.  The removal of the Marriott branding is being described as a positive to give the buyer a clean sheet.

OT – I’m a few hundred points short of an IHG redemption I want for tonight! If I buy the 1000 points do they post instantly? Otherwise will have to use cash+points. Thanks.

    • Wally1976 says:

Just thought – I could transfer some over from my wife’s account for $5 – is that instant?

      • guesswho2000 says:

No, I did this last year and it took a couple of days

    • BigSi says:

I’ve called and asked them before for a small amount and they just gave me the points for free. Worth a shot.

  • czechoslovakia says:

90,000 avios dropped into my 3yo account nicely, cheers Rob. For reference, IB+ account only ever used for an infrequent dribble of Accor points, lastly in Jan this year.

  • r* says:

Whats the best option for using the Iberia avios for business flights to MLE? Searching ex-Mad/London seems to be turning up very few BA flights (are qatar not available for redemption on iberia site?)

    • Rob says:

You must search for a return flight to find partner availability.

    • marcw says:

Start from Athens, or somethings close to Doha. You save a big chunk of Avios doing it that way.

  • CV3V says:

90,000 points just landed in IB account. These will be redeemed for the cash equivalent of £900 of hotel rooms, great result.

    • Ian says:

How do you get £900 out of 90,000. I’m looking at the hotel options, as I rather using BA voucher to get to Tokyo.

      Thanks.

      • CV3V says:

In my case, i have spotted a hotel redemption for a hotel which is opening a new club lounge floor, the cash rates on hotels website for this are high, but its on discount/sale on IB website.

i am looking at hotel redemption through Iberia, rather than transferring them out to BA and then ending up at minus 90000.

Generally, i would expect the avios to worth about 0.5p each, so on 90k of avios it would equate to £450 of hotel rooms, then check against cost of cash booking to see how it compares.

    • AndyW says:

I saw the Edition in NY pretty cheap in March, close to a penny a point. Dates don’t work for me unfortunately

  • MrK says:

    O/T:
Had a look at the offers on my BA Amex and noticed that there’s this bonus avios offer from Kaligo where if we book more than £1,000 of hotel bookings within a qualifying period with the BA amex we’d get 20k extra points.
Has anyone else seen this and is this worthwhile? I recently made a Kaligo booking but on a different card which I’m thinking about cancelling and rebooking using my BA Amex

    • Rob says:

Covering this tomorrow. It is very good.

    • Anna says:

Tempting…we have 3 nights in NYC next May and that could easily cost £1k for a decent hotel!

      • Mikeact says:

In my experience with Kaligo, you need to compare like with like, and with the hotel itself…..assuming it’s coming out of your own Pocket.

  • andy says:

I have had my points credited, although it will not allow me to transfer to BA or Avios account? I seem to recall there was a post/comment that you can transfer to Aer Club? It doesn’t give you the option on the Iberia site, or Aer Club?

    • Paul says:

No transfers can be made out of IB at present…they have obviously put a block on it

      • the real harry1 says:

I just transferred 500 Avios IB—>avios.com, no problem at all 🙂

        • the real harry1 says:

and now I just transferred 500 IB-BAEC (Mrs Harry not in HHA)

so you CAN transfer IB Avios out again 🙂

        • andy says:

Well I tried again, and I get the same message – combine my avios was unsuccessful

        • KingK says:

Same here, only allows to transfer out non-promotional avios!
Was successful in transferring old avios sitting in the account prior to the promotional ones credited.
I suspect they have put a block on the promotional ones as widely expected?!

        • the real harry1 says:

oh yeah, forgot to say I didn’t try transferring the promotional Avios, that would have been pointless 🙂

these were odds & sods Avios outside the 90K, so they’re not ring-fenced

    • Rob says:

Aer Club accounts ARE avios.com accounts. Use your account number as an avios.com number and it will work.

      • andy says:

when i try to transfer on Iberia site, it gives the option of either transfer to Avios or BA? If I log in with my Avios account details, it still says unable to combine

        • the real harry1 says:

          you can’t transfer the ’90K’ Avios out of IB – they’re ring-fenced

  • Sean says:

Update from me – booked through the app and 3/5 have posted (27k avios). Will chase the other two, but just FYI in case anyone was worried they would not receive if booked through the app.

  • Ian M says:

My points have finally arrived and flight booked.
