OT back in Canberra tonight before my Qatar flight back to Oslo, our 2e / 2f seat selections seem to have been moved to 7e / 7f I’m wondering if we have lucked out and got a qsuites plane? Slightly frustrating that yesterday they moved the times slightly bringing our Doha stopover just over 8 hours, I think it’s too late now to get a free stopover hotel.
Canberra hasn’t got more exciting in the 6 weeks since we were last here 🙂

  • BJ says:

OT: Can I access any OW business lounge when flying BA CW? I was thinking about giving the new Qatar lounge a try on departing Bangkok this week. However, I seem to recall reading someplace that Qatar do not always play by OW rules on lounge access.

    • Matt says:

Yes you’re fine if you’re travelling CW. The exceptions I think you refer to are the with OW status where you can’t use the Al Mourjan or Al Safwa lounges in Doha if you’re sapphire/emerald. Just like you can’t use CCR in LHR if you’re emerald.

      • BJ says:

        Thanks Matt.

        • Andy says:

Yes you should be fine with any OneWorld Business ticket. Qatar lounges just seem to be against admitting status card holders in economy.

        • BJ says:

Thanks guys. Seems not…because it appears to be closed most of the day. Will change plan and try CX and Oman Air lounges.

    • Bsuije says:

@Andy – status card holders, full stop. As an OW Emerald flying QR biz I believe I would only be allowed in the QR biz lounge at Doha and not the QR first one.

In any case, the OW lounges website is pretty clear on who can access what and where.

      • John says:

Confusingly there is a “first lounge” at DOH which you can access as OWE in Y, it’s just a different lounge from “Al safwa first”

    • The Jetset Boyz says:

Access to Qatar Airways’ lounges in Paris and Bangkok is restricted to Qatar Airways and oneworld First and Business class ticketed revenue customers only. Unfortunately you want be able to use these lounges if you’re flying business class on a reward ticket.

      • BJ says:

I thought award tickets were essentially the same as cash tickets? Tickets were cash WTP UUA to CW. Is that still going to show up on boarding pass as award ticket?

  • James says:

    Hello
Do you know if its possible to transfer avios from Iberia to BaEc when you have a household account?

    • Matt says:

Yes via Avios. Just use CMA tool on Iberia to transfer from Iberia to Avios, then use CMA tool on BA to transfer from Avios to BA.

      • Peter K says:

In case you are a newbie CMA means combine my avios ????
I always found it easier to “drag” my avios from Iberia from my avios.com account rather than “push” it from Iberia to the same avios.com account. From avios.com to BAEC is simple.
(NB this does not work if you have a household avios.com account)

OT: If anyone’s still waiting for the Virgin card offer, I received mine just yesterday, the lower one with 33000 points. So VM haven’t finished sending offers, it seems.

    • Mark2 says:

You seem to be able to switch to the paid card if you wish (I don’t).

My wife (well I) wrote and asked for an invitation since she cancelled her Virgin MBNA card on 25/05. Yesterday one just arrived, but it may be because our surname is at end of alphabet.

      • Matt B says:

Who did you write/contact exactly? Haven’t received an offer even though been a longtime cardholder.

  • @mkcol says:

OT: My new (replacement) Marriott Rewards credit card (from the awful Creation) has arrived & it’s now contactless.
    Tiny little steps from Creation.

    • Mark2 says:

I hope that they start issuing ne cards soon.
      I love Creation.

  • Anna says:

Just got the new Ts and Cs from Lloyds. Had a quick scan but not seen anything about avios or upgrade vouchers yet.

  • Anna says:

Also – HH! I booked a Hilton Garden Inn in the US for 3 of us for our stay in August but didn’t add my OH as a guest at the time. When I realised he had to be registered as a guest to get the 2 x free breakfasts I contacted Hilton using the online form – their response is that as the booking is non-changeable, I can’t add him as a guest! Can this possibly right? I am HH Gold and the booking states that it’s for 2 adults and a child. Will they refuse the 2nd breakfast because my OH is not actually named?

    • BJ says:

This sounds nonsense Anna, I’ve never had a problem with this. You booked for three, I woukd expect you and your husband will get the free breakfast and a good chance there will be kids eat free offer too. Might be wrong but as I understand it the registered guests are the three people who check in, I don’t think names on booking are important, I often don’t even bother adding my partners name. Even when travelling solo I always reserve a room for 2; I’ve had friends or colleagues join me for breakfast only and never had a problem with that either, probably because I am on the list as two guests.

      • BJ says:

Well, one of named guests needs to turn up. Apart from that not important except in a few countries such as Spain (I seem to recall Rob saying) where the lead guest must turn up in person.

        • Anna says:

Thanks BJ, yes it would make sense that if they have a booking for 2 adults, those adults would be entitled to HH benefits even if only one is actually named on the booking! Sometimes I think they don’t even read the question properly and just reply with the first thing that comes into their heads!

        • Lady London says:

Of course they don’t need to know the name of the second guest in a room How else would people get away with bringing other people’s wives and maintaining discretion?

    • Leo says:

I’ve never had this problem – in the US or elsewhere. They just “know” there are two of you if you have a double/twin room.

    • Derek says:

I had exactly the same issue with Hilton and HH. I ended up contacting the hotel direct and they added my membership details to my booking no problem, but not before I explained the idiotic rules of the situation with HH Centre

    • Alan says:

If you book a Hilton Garden (or any other HIlton Hotel) in the US via a 3rd party site, do you still get the HH perks?

Just curious as I have booked a Hilton Garden in New York for our family via Booking.com

Also, if you do still get the perks how do you inform them that you are a HH Gold member?
