I got an offer in my Amex App for 50% off MyTaxi for as many journeys as I want! That’s 50% off black cabs for the next few weeks — Uber who?!

    • Rob says:

MyTaxi has a £10 minimum fare so for short hops it isn’t really 50% off. Our kids school is a£7 ride so this offer would only cut it to £5 for example.

      • Lumma says:

£7 in a black cab in London? Would it not be better to walk the two streets instead? 😉

        • Rob says:

Depends how quickly they get out of bed in the morning! You can get about a mile for £7, bit more than 2 streets ….

        • RussellH says:

£7 a mile??!!?? No wonder I hate the thought of taxis! (except in Germany.)

          • Rob says:

First mile – there is a chunky base charge these days. Mayfair to my house is 3x distance and £10-£11.

  • Chris L says:

Queen’s Hotel, Cheltenham is a great property. It’s right in the centre of Cheltenham so ideal if you’re visiting for any of the cultural festivals (Jazz, Music, Literature, Science) and easy to access the races. We actually had our wedding reception there 3 years ago…today happens to be our anniversary!

  • Louise Allen says:

“It is also worth noting that the app seems to show fewer offers than the website.”

This is very true. For my business gold and personal platinum, I have no offers in the app – I always have to log into the website. For BAPP I see all the offers in the app. I have tweeted Amex about this and they just say to call them for troubleshooting, something I can never be bothered to do. Clearing the app cache doesn’t fix it, nor does a reinstall, so I’m not sure what else they could do.

Another quirk is that all cards show the DD collection date corresponding to whichever card is collecting next. Causes a bit of a panic if you only quickly check your accounts.

I think the app isn’t quite geared up to mulitple accounts.

  • Craig says:

OT: Adding card to Amex servicing. I have 2 accounts, one with 2 primary and 1 supp, the second with only 1 primary. Both accounts won’t let me add another supp saying I must open another account, the last thing I want is 3 accounts! Any hints?

    • Rob says:

Is this a supp on a card where you also have a primary? System seems to struggle if you have 2 cards the same, even if one is closed but not deleted.

      • Craig says:

It’s an Amex Plat, swapping over to Mrs S to take advantage of the sign-up bonus and because I have used all 5x18k referrals. My second account only has an SPG on it and it won’t add it to that?

        • Matt says:

I often get the message that a card can’t be added to this account (and the same when my wife gets a new card). The first time it happened I phoned up and they sorted it out after a couple of days, bust subsequently I’ve found that waiting a day or two after receiving the card and then trying again works every time (so far)

  • Rob says:

I need it at German Hiltons …. spending £700 next week!

    • Kipto says:

Do you actually get 10% off council tax or is only for co-op goods ?

    • the real harry1 says:

yep it works fine but must be 1 transaction, ie to get £30 back from £300, Paypoint has a £150 limit on CT (for Cornwall CC, anyway) but you can get the cashier to do 2x £150 and pay once, which counts as 1x £300.

  • TGLoyalty says:

Pay the minimum to get the cash back on your Amex and the balance on a 0% card.

    • Alan says:

Can you pay for one hotel stay on 2 cards? Won’t this mess up the tracking for the cash-back websites that we aren’t allowed to mention? That’s £33 for this trip (thereabouts depending on exchange rate)

      • Genghis says:

Yes. I’ve done it before (basically to hit a sign up bonus on multiple cards). No issues with CB tracking.

      • Alan says:

        Thanks Genghis

  • Russell Gowers says:

Interesting – Cheltenham Queens hotel was a lowly Mercure the last time I checked. That must have been a very recent and quiet rebrand. I’ve never stayed there (I live in Cheltenham) but I’ve taken afternoon tea there – partner’s birthday – and it was a classic British hotel – grand building, poor service, lack of investment meaning that the place felt shabby.

  • xcalx says:

OT Anyone know how long transfers between SPG accounts take. Started the process on Saturday.

    • Genghis says:

It differs. Took us well over a week month before last but only one day last month.

    • Rob says:

      5 working days

      • Craig says:

Anyone got any idea of transfers will still be allowed post 1 August? I have some points I want to combine with another family member but won’t be coming into my SPG account until later this month.

        • Rob says:

Presumably so as both Marriott and SPG currently allow it, although if the Marriott model takes over you will need to call.

    • Jay says:

I transferred some last week and took 3 days.
