IHG Rewards Club has released a teaser video on its Facebook page highlighting five hotels which will feature in the new PointBreaks list.

These hotels will be bookable from Monday afternoon UK time.  It seems at the moment that we won’t see the full list until it is officially published.

The 100+ PointBreaks hotels on the list will be bookable for the period 1st August to, probably, 31st October.  The cost will be reduced to between 5,000 and 15,000 points per night depending on hotel.

Here is the teaser list:

UK – Holiday Inn Brighton Seafront

Jordan – Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea

Qatar – InterContinental Doha

US – Hotel Indigo San Antonio Riverwalk, Texas

US – Hotel Indigo Orange Beach, Alabama

Another 100+ hotels will be revealed on Monday.

The inclusion of Brighton is just weird.  Why the hotel needs to reduce its redemption pricing for August is a mystery, although I have heard in the past that hotels don’t get much choice as to whether they go on this list or not.

I should also warn you that, despite a lobby refurbishment, the Brighton hotel is meant to be a mess.  A friend of mine booked in recently and instantly walked out after seeing his room, checking into the adjacent Hilton instead on the grounds that the HI “makes the Hilton look like Four Seasons George V [in Paris]”.  Just so you know ….

The HI Brighton seafront was poor when I stayed around five years ago. Doesn’t sound like it has improved!

  • Joe says:

I stayed in HI Brighton in summer 2015. It was dated, but not too bad. I had the room just above the Holiday Inn sign. The major problem what I had, was that the wifi did not work. The whole building has really thick cement walls. The staff was very helpful and we tested the internet in 3 other rooms with no improvement. I collected quite big amount of points as compensation for the lack of working wifi. I ended up putting my phone in the balcony with the door open and using the phone as a mobile hot spot for my laptop.

It wasn’t much good when it was the Hilton West Pier either.

  • John says:

I didn’t realise that you knew Sebastian Powell!

  • John says:

Regarding Brighton HI on the list. A friend who works at IHG told me it doesn’t matter how many points you pay for the rewards night. Hotel gets a fixed rate from IHG.

    • John says:

That’s right other John, but the amount IHG gets depends on how full the hotel is. You can see this amount in your IHG account so no need for a friend to work there. £10-20 if it’s less than 95% full and the going rate if more.

      • Tim says:

Yesterday I had a 10,000 point reward booking accidentally post as a qualifying stay – for exactly 30USD. I’ve also accidentally been given invoices for stays in the past which have mostly been around that point.

OT Just seen on my SPG Amex that there is £5 back on £50 spend each time until end of August.

        BP I’m guessing.

    • BJ says:

      On what, anything anywhere?

      • Graham Walsh says:

Sorry BP. Too early in the morning and not enough coffee.

        • Andy says:

Are these targeted offers? Not showing for me, though I don’t usually use my SPG card at petrol stations so maybe that’s why.

        • Graham Walsh says:

Andy. I’ve not used my SPG much recently and got the offer. However I have a total of 4 offers on SPG and about 30 useless ones on Amex Plat.

  • Nicky says:

I have just signed into my account on the app and cannot find the competition either

  • Nate1309 says:

Anyone else not able to submit the form on the Hilton comp? Says I’m not getting the security image correct…. I am.

  • BJ says:

No reason for anybody to get excited about Brighton, dump or not, in in August. Only date available on points is 30th as of yesterday. FWIW, this hotel has a reputation for it’s total disregard of status benefits.

    • John says:

IHG has a reputation for having no status benefits

      • BJ says:

LOL, I think I have done ok with them, both when spire and now as platinum. There is a tendency to dwell on the lack of breakfast though and compare them unfavourably to Hilton and Marriott as a result.
