Exclusive: Get 100% bonus redeeming Heathrow Rewards points for Heathrow shopping vouchers

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

If you have a stack of Heathrow Rewards points sitting around, this is the opportunity you have been waiting for to unload them.

Heathrow Rewards is the loyalty scheme covering the shops, restaurants, money exchange and parking facilities at Heathrow Airport.  You earn 1 point for every £1 you spend, or 2 points per £1 once you’ve spent over £750 in a year and been upgraded to the Premium tier.  Points can be redeemed for Heathrow shopping vouchers, Heathrow Express tickets, parking vouchers or miles with a variety of airlines including British Airways, Lufthansa, Emirates, Aegean, Royal Brunei, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.

Starting today, and running until Monday 30th July, you will receive a 100% bonus when you transfer your Heathrow Rewards points into Heathrow shopping vouchers.

Heathrow Rewards

Every 250 points you transfer will get you a £5 Heathrow voucher.  This can be spent on virtually anything in the airport, except foreign currency.  Vouchers are valid for 12 months.

This is a very strong deal.  It makes little sense to redeem your points for airline miles at 1 mile per point when you could get 2p of shopping vouchers instead.

Heathrow Rewards has been running transfer bonuses on points into airline miles recently.  These may or may not come back.  However, even if you hold off in the anticipation of a 100% bonus, you would still be ‘paying’ 1p per mile compared to cashing in now.  More importantly, 100% airline bonuses now seem to be restricted to ‘Premium’ members of Heathrow Rewards – standard members have only been offered a 50% airline bonus in recent deals.

If you’ve got a stash of Heathrow Rewards points, and as long as you are passing through Heathrow on a regular basis, you should have a serious think about redeeming this week.

The offer will be live at some point during today.  If it isn’t showing when you log in, I recommend waiting for a couple of hours and trying again.  Do not redeem your points until you see this offer on the Heathrow Rewards website.

Please note that, whilst Heathrow shopping vouchers normally arrive in the post within a few days, because of the anticipated demand for this offer Heathrow Rewards is saying that you may need to wait up to 28 days to receive them.

There is also an interesting but complex deal you can do to get 1p per American Express Membership Rewards point if you redeem them now.  I have done a separate article today (click here) on how that works.

PS.  If you are heading to Heathrow in the next 48-72 hours, you could use this offer to get a very generous rebate on a purchase.  Via this offer, new Heathrow Rewards members get 3,000 bonus points when spending £150.  This means that someone opening a new account and spending exactly £150 would receive 3,150 points plus another 100 points joining bonus.

As long as you redeem by 30th July – and HR points usually post within a couple of days – your 3,250 points would get you £65 of Heathrow vouchers.  This is an excellent return on £150 of spending.

Whilst the link above is an Avios offer and talks about converting your bonus to Avios, in reality you can send the 3,000 bonus Heathrow Rewards points wherever you want – including for shopping vouchers.

  • BJ says:

Does the HR account holder need to use the voucher or can they be given to somebody else?

    • KBuffet says:

I’ve given my wife my vouchers on multiple occasions with no issues (without having accompanied her).

      • BJ says:

Thanks, are the vouchers issued only in £5 denominations? Is it ok to use a large number of these against a single purchase such as a phone?

        • Rob says:

          Yes

        • Jordan D says:

Yes – my father used my vouchers from last year’s offer to buy a watch using a stack of the vouchers. No issues whatsoever. Made my Premium level spend for this year, got a whole host of points and around we go again.

    • Alan says:

Varies by store. Strictly they are non-transferable. My folks had a big stash (from Emirates Skywards points) and used them fine at a clothes store but then Dixons refused them as they said the name must match. The vouchers always come in £5 chunks so if spending hundreds can take them a while writing on them, giving them lots of time to read them (the account holder name and HR numbers are printed on them). Given my past experience I’d say much better to assume account holder has to be present when redeeming.

      • BJ says:

Cheers Alan, in that case I better hold onto them until next June.

      • BJ says:

Just realised that if it is not a duty free store (Dixons Travel isn’t) then I believe we are not obliged to show them our boarding pass with our name even if they ask.

        • Anna says:

You’re not obliged to show it but they might then say it’s against their policy to serve you. Had this argument a few times!

        • BJ says:

@Anna, thanks, isn’t the reason they want to see it so that they can claim VAT back if we are travelling outside the EU? If we were, is it not then likely that they would be more interested in getting the sale than making a fuss over the name on the voucher?

          • Rob says:

Correct. All shops need to see the boarding card because of the VAT adjustment. The only exception technically would be if you were buying something zero rates eg a book.

Buy a £10 tshirt in Heathrow and the shop gets either £10 (flying outside EU) or £8.33 (flying inside EU, VAT payable). This is why some shops reportedly get a little creative when typing in your flight number …..

        • James P says:

I’d need several hands to count the number of times I’ve bought things from Dixons Travel after showing my boarding pass to discover that my receipt says that I’m flying to South Africa…

  • RTS says:

Awesome thanks. Been waiting for this!

  • Roger says:

Can I still get this offer if I redeem points in Dixon’s / WDF instead of ordering vouchers? Just my luck am traveling from T5 today 🙁

    • BJ says:

Sorry Roger, I checked that a few minutes ago. Instant rewards are still showing as £5/500points even though the voucher offer is already live. I plan to take the vouchers even though I may not be in LHR myself again until next June.

  • Matt says:

Does anyone know when the vouchers would expire?

  • gidon says:

    Just ordered
“Please allow at least 10 working days if you live in the UK or 15 working days if you live outside the UK for your voucher(s) to arrive.”

    • Rob says:

Those are the usual rules. I was told to tell you it might take longer!

  • Mike says:

I’ve just converted 24,000 Emirates miles, which now appear on my list of transactions in Heathrow Rewards, but not on my points balance. I have received an e-mail 30 minutes ago from Heathrow Rewards saying they have transferred and good to go. Is there usually a lag between the transaction appearing in My Transactions and a useable points balance??

  • Ant says:

Is it just me but when i go to the order confirmation stage it stills hows at the rate of 500 points £5.

    • New Card says:

True – but you should be able to order double the number of vouchers for the same number of points…

      • Ant says:

thanks. Didn’t notice that bit. Ordered 82 vouchers, be fun when i use them for one item.

  • Mr Dee says:

Best stores to spend at Heathrow except Dixons Travel, was thinking of cashing in a few hundred pounds worth?

    • Joe says:

You can shop online at Heathrow Boutique and then reserve what you like so you can just pick up and pay with your vouchers rather than trudging round the shops.
