Habtoor’s three Marriott-managed Dubai hotels are rebranded by Hilton

We recently wrote how the St Regis, Westin and W hotels at Al Habtoor City in Dubai were to be deflagged on 31st July.

From yesterday, Hilton is now operating the hotels – although I doubt the signs have been changed yet.

The St Regis becomes ‘Habtoor Palace Hotel, part of the LXR Hotels & Resorts collection’ – the hotel site is here

The W becomes ‘V, part of Curio Collection by Hilton’ – the hotel site is here

The Westin becomes Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City – the hotel site is here

LXR is a new Hilton brand.  It is designed to be a home for independent luxury hotels who want to join the Hilton ‘system’ whilst still remaining outside Hilton control.

There are now THREE Hilton brands for independent hotels:

LXR – for five star properties

Curio – for four star properties (Ibiza reviewed here, Boston reviewed here, Hamburg reviewed here)

Tapestry – for three star properties (Washington DC reviewed here)

I am very positive about these moves because they are attracting very good hotels.  I was very keen on The Graham in Washington.  We were also back at the Reichshof in Hamburg last month which is much improved on its chaotic opening which I reviewed.

Whether this can be enough to save the Al Habtoor City hotels, which suffer from a blighted location next to Sheikh Zayeed Road – see photo above – and chronic over-development, is a different question.

Rather annoyingly I haven’t got any Hilton offers on either of my Amex cards, do you know if they ever add them on request? Also I’m due to take the kids to Nando’s and cinema next week so wouldk have loved that one too!

    • Rda says:

      +1

    • BJ says:

They used to add offers on request and there was also a workaround to add them yourself. Both routes now appear to be firmly closed but no harm in calling.to try. Very rarely I have seen pffers appear on my cards at a later date than they were initially launched. We never got the Hilton on our cards either, disappointing as we definitely would have used it.

      • Simon says:

Seems a ripe opportunity to set up an arbing website to share the offers.

  • Jason R says:

I haven’t got the Mr Porter offer 🙁

  • Frankie says:

My SPG credit card account is showing as zero points but I had 11,000 there last time I looked. I’ve never transferred any. Has anyone else got this issue? And when I try to log into my Starwood account it says ‘this account has merged please log into the other account’ but I don’t have another account. Has anyone any insight please?

    • Roberto says:

The amex SPG points get swept over to SPG once a month. Those 11000 will arrive into your starwoods/Marriott account.. they normally arrive asap but delays with the change over may mean you have to wait 6 weeks..

SPG points will convert to Marriott points and your 11k spg will become 33k marriott.

      • Frankie says:

Thank you Roberto for explaining. I somehow missed understanding that part of the program. I thought they just sat with amex until I choose to move them. like Amex gold MR points. Are you able to access you starwoods account? I get the following message ‘This SPG account has merged with another account. Access the other account, or contact your nearest’

        • Alan says:

No, SPG/Nectar/Avios all auto-sweep. It’s only Amex MR points where you have a choice of programme where they sit there waiting for you to decide.

I can access my SPG a/c fine, no error messages.

  • Dale says:

They never seem to give the offers to regular users of the brands in question. I can understand the logic behind this, but it is AMEX we are paying the £450 fee to every year so I think thats not a very customer friendly approach

    • BJ says:

I stay regularly so not true IME but I didn’t get this one.

    • Lumma says:

Isn’t that the point though, you’re behind the marketing of a certain product, you approach AMEX saying “we want to target customers who have purchased from our direct competitors but not us. The consumer gets a good deal and may use you in the future.

As far as the offers go, I get far more good deals on my AMEX (red) card that I’ve held for over 12 years, than my gold and BA csrds. There’s no rewards for me (other than a 1% donation to AIDS charities) but I get so many good offers on it that I hold onto it, especially now that AMEX seem to have given up on the maximum 2 credit cards at once rule

  • Brian says:

Excellent. We can stay at the Connaught and have dinner at Nando’s for a bargain break.

    • ChrisC says:

Don’t spill any piri piri sauce down your new Mr Porter suit though.

Are there any dry cleaners included in the offers.?????????

  • Brian says:

Good spot. Were you able to register? I enter my details, but just go back to the landing page, with no indication that my registration has been recorded.

    • Rob says:

It is dead which is why we haven’t covered it. When it works, we will!

      • Brian says:

        Thanks Rob.

      • Pangolin says:

I also tried with no joy – thrown straight back to the landing page.

Sounds too good to be true anyway. Maybe it’s a targeted offer?

      • BJ says:

Cheers, I did not try, I decided to hold off to see if other airlines had a similar promo.

      • BJ says:

@Pangolin, there was a promo for 2000 avios/stay last year.

    • Roger1* says:

i clicked, logged in and got the Registered page.

  • Peter says:

Slightly OT but in a similar vein. Starpoints from my wife’s Starwood Amex card seem to be taking a while to come across. They left her Amex account in the middle of July and haven’t yet posted to her Starwood account, previously they have been quicker. We have contacted Amex who say the problem is not their end. We haven’t had a chance to contact Starwood, has anyone experienced anything similar, I wonder if it is changeover related?

    • Roberto says:

See abover and the banner on the Amex desktop site. Points may take another 6 weeks.

      Grrrrr……

      • Russ says:

Have spoken to Amex last night asking them if they’d freeze the fee as I wanted to cancel but can’t without loosing the feral points. They’ve refused.

Seems to be people who had transfer’s 14th of month.

        • Pangolin says:

I’m in the same boat, wanted to cancel yesterday as I’ll switch all the spending to my new PRG. Just before I pick up the phone to cancel I see the message about points collection being delayed till possibly mid-September. My transfers were also mid-month and the last one to go through was JUN 15.

So I have to hold the card for up to 6 weeks just to collect the points I earned from my summer holiday bookings. Not good.

    • Dave says:

Same problem here, points left the account, card cancelled and then I noticed afterwards that they hadn’t hit my SPG account. Contacted Amex who said they’d flag it up for investigation and points should post within 7-10 working days. I did think it was just me having a problem but I guess it’s a bigger issue. Hopefully they’ll post soon..

  • A270 says:

Are these 3 Dubai hotels bookable with points? I couldn’t see any availability with points when I tried yesterday.

    • Rob says:

They will be, given them a few days. They were empty under SPG so no shortage. The Hilton alone has 1,000 rooms.
