Marriott West India Quay hotel in London refurbishes – a good value redemption

The Marriott hotel at Canary Wharf (West India Quay) has announced the completion of its refurbishment.  To quote:

The spacious guestrooms boast stylish, understated carpets and wallpaper in a neutral beige and taupe palette, contrasted by dark wood furniture detailing and a flash of colour from the hand blown glass turquoise lamps.

“When designing an interior we integrate vernacular of the architecture and local surroundings,” explained Alan McVitty, Director of M Studio London. All flooded with natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows, certain guestrooms also boast scenic views over West India Quay whilst the Curve Suites showcase incredible sights across Canary Wharf’s skyline.

Guestrooms have been decked out with luxurious flat screen TVs and plush mattresses, whilst suites come equipped with Nespresso coffee machines. Up-to-the-minute technology including high-speed Wi-Fi and 8 USB ports can be found in each room, ensuring ease for business travel.

Even if you are not a business traveller, it is worth keeping an eye on this hotel as a good value tourist spot for a weekend break.  It is just a couple of minutes walk from the Jubilee Line, dropping you in the West End very quickly, and the Docklands Light Railway literally runs past your window.

As a redemption, it is now 35,000 points per night – a good deal, given the full refurbishment, compared to 50-60,000 points per night for the equivalent West End hotels.

  • Alex Sm says:

Why does BA not allow passengers to be driven to the plane? Is it about specific rules/regulations or money?

  • Mike says:

The Marriott is also next to the Crossrail station which opens soon.

  • Matt says:

Hello the points from my IHG creation card appear to have been debited from my creation account but have not credited to my IHG account. I think it’s been over a week now and they’ve historically posted around 22nd of the month. Anyone else facing issues? Also do I call creation or IHG?

    • Axel Heyst says:

My IHG points have posted 4 business days after the bank statement date. Blame the English bank holiday.

      • Liz says:

Mine posted today finally. I did email them a couple of days ago – no reply – so not sure if that helped or if someone finally triggered the points for everyone.

      • guesswho2000 says:

Ah of course. I forgot you lot got Monday off, I could’ve really done with it this week too! But yes, that explains it, and mine have turned up today too.

    • Genghis says:

My points have posted. My wife’s have not.

    • Alan says:

      Still waiting for mine

    • Azza says:

Mine have gone through this morning. Statement date was 21st. Usually they come through in no more than 2 days – not sure why there are delays this month, but at least they’ve made it eventually!

    • KevMc says:

Mine have appeared today also. Statement date was 22nd.

    • 1nfrequent says:

My points arrived today although I have yet to receive my credit card statement – no doubt due to the bank holiday affecting the postal service.

    • Brian S says:

Both of ours have posted today

    • Alex W says:

      My points posted today.

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

      Mine also posted today

Now please do bring back LCY-MAD 🙁

  • Mr(s) Entitled says:

While weather can never be guaranteed I’d have greater interest in the McLaren package in dryer months. Aquaplaning around Dunsford in Oct doesn’t appeal to me but it must to some because one package has just sold.

    • will says:

A lot of people would argue they’ve learnt the most about driving on wet track days.
You also need a substantial amount of standing water or slick tyres to aquaplane otherwise the roads would be choas at the first sign of rain.

  • Crafty says:

OT: BA worldwide sale now live, per Jack’s flight club.

Looks totally useless for what I’m looking for (SE Asia), unless I’m missing something.

  • Roger says:

Any ideas why I cannot find any 8K mile award seat in Economy between MEX-CUN
The distance is 790m, so does comply with United 800m one way direct flight connection that was covered here some time ago.
Avianca (*A member) flies that route non-stop.
    Any help or pointers appreciated.

    • Roger says:

Also LHR-MEX exceeds 5500 miles as per GCMAP, however it seems BA only charges Avios for Zone 6 (4000-5500 miles).

  • Mark Smith says:

Big news…Amex are now accepted by Domino’s Pizza online!

    • GRIMZ says:

Should Amex be accepted everywhere now as they can’t charge merchants anymore than MasterCard, Visa etc?

      • Rob says:

Not quite right. CO-BRAND Amex cards cannot charge more. They can on Gold and Plat. Why do you think Amex is slowly removing statement credit offers from the co-brand cards?

        • Pangolin says:

Yes, had got nothing other than a solitary Prezzo’s offer on my SPG over the last 6 months. I’ve cancelled my card now.

The BA card (free, not the BAPP) isn’t much better. The same half a dozen offers I never use.

The difference is that I still have only 2 offers on my PRG and that’s my main card now (I had about thirty on my Plat at the time I cancelled it).

      • john says:

A Wyevale Garden Centre told me they don’t take Amex because it takes them 60-days to get their money from Amex whereas other card merchants are far quicker. Not sure how true that is..

        • Doug M says:

That’s odd as I have a 5% back offer on my BA Amex.

        • will says:

If it’s 60 days they have a bad deal, it is longer than Visa/Mastercard though.
Not many people pay by amex in my company but I think its 7 days, Visa/MAstercard is 1-2 days and we certainly wont process as many transactions as Wyevale.

        • 1nfrequent says:

Weird as I recently used the Wyevale 5% offer on some stuff for the garden and didn’t have any issue. Maybe it was specific to the centre you visited?

          1F

        • RussellH says:

I have the 5% offer on a BA Amex too.
Having a big clearout at home and have stumbled upon my old Amex contract (March 2006!). It will have changed since then, and like Will, I recall the typical payment from Amex as 7 days, but there seems to be no mention in the contract of any particular period for payment. Certainly slower than Visa/M’Card though.
However 60 days sounds to me to be like the offers I used to get for accepting online payments, rather than over the phone.
What is certainly against the 2006 contract, and I imagine still is, is doing anything to dissuade customers from paying by Amex rather than Visa/M’Card.

        • john says:

Maybe it was Squires rather than Wyevale.. I forget! But yeah the manager happened to be serving me and he said basically it takes way longer to get the cash out compared to the others so they don’t take it. He could obviously have been talking about old contracts from years ago having not investigated it recently!

        • Andrew says:

Also have the Wyevale offer on Amex.

60 days is utter nonsense, they usually take just 1-2 days longer to settle than our main merchants. We also have far fewer random chargebacks from them too. The only downside is the way that the values are formatted on the CSV downloads. I’ve got a script to clean that up nowadays though.

    • KevMc says:

Could you not already pay by Amex before, via Paypal?

      • Mark Smith says:

Possibly, just saw a big advert on my Amex account advertising it when I logged in!
