Marriott West India Quay hotel in London refurbishes – a good value redemption

The Marriott hotel at Canary Wharf (West India Quay) has announced the completion of its refurbishment.  To quote:

The spacious guestrooms boast stylish, understated carpets and wallpaper in a neutral beige and taupe palette, contrasted by dark wood furniture detailing and a flash of colour from the hand blown glass turquoise lamps.

“When designing an interior we integrate vernacular of the architecture and local surroundings,” explained Alan McVitty, Director of M Studio London. All flooded with natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows, certain guestrooms also boast scenic views over West India Quay whilst the Curve Suites showcase incredible sights across Canary Wharf’s skyline.

Guestrooms have been decked out with luxurious flat screen TVs and plush mattresses, whilst suites come equipped with Nespresso coffee machines. Up-to-the-minute technology including high-speed Wi-Fi and 8 USB ports can be found in each room, ensuring ease for business travel.

Even if you are not a business traveller, it is worth keeping an eye on this hotel as a good value tourist spot for a weekend break.  It is just a couple of minutes walk from the Jubilee Line, dropping you in the West End very quickly, and the Docklands Light Railway literally runs past your window.

As a redemption, it is now 35,000 points per night – a good deal, given the full refurbishment, compared to 50-60,000 points per night for the equivalent West End hotels.

OT/ Hilton Points Transfer or Points Pooling

Has anybody used this? I need to ‘borrow’ 30K points from my dads account – I did everything the website asked and received an email from Hilton on his email saying the processing is happening and they will send another once complete…

Anybody know how long its takes? reading online its instant? – Its been 8 hours now, and i want to book asap!

  • CountryKerry says:

OT: Just triggered my third 2-4-1 voucher. There is no way to use this for myself and five others is there? I have to keep it to just four of us in total (we 2-4-1’s)? Cheers

    • KevMc says:

The person who owns the voucher HAS to fly on the ticket, so if they’re all in your name, you can only use each one for yourself and one other person. If you have two in your name and one in your partners name (or the other way round), you can use one each to get 4 of you to and from your destination.

      • Genghis says:

Or if two in your name you can use two for four people.
Term 12: “If the Cardmember has two valid Companion Vouchers on their account they have the option to redeem both of them together for one flight booking allowing the Cardmember to travel with 3 companions and pay the Avios flight price for only 2 people travelling on the booking.”

        • KevMc says:

Ah, I didn’t realise that was possible. Thanks Genghis! …and sorry for the wrong info CountyKerry.

I assume all 4 must travel in the same class, therefore effectively limiting this to an economy redemption? Or can you have two in J and 2 at the back?

          • Rob says:

Now that’s a good question … as it needs to be on one booking I doubt it but, theoretically, it should be allowed.

        • GeoffGeoff says:

All pax must travel in the same class on any booking, irrespective of the use of 241s.
However, this does not limit the 2×241 booking to Y as there are quite often 4 J seats available for redemptions on some routes. BA guarantee a minimum of 4 Y and 2 J on each flight, but there are often more and often seats in Y+ and F, which are not guaranteed to be offered at all.

  • Travel Strong says:

OT: If I refer my supplementary card holder for their own amex (gold), should they enter their supplementary card info when asked if they hold a card already? Or does this only apply to account holders?

  • Crafty says:

OT: New Hyatt promotion through Nov announced. It’s very weak. 5 stays to get 2,500 bonus points (and further higher thresholds too).

  • A270 says:

OT: Flight’s been delayed for 2 hours, still waiting in aircraft. I believe compensation only start at 3 hours? Amex Platinum states 4 hours. That too if I reach destination 3 hours late and not depart 3 hours late as they have exaggerated the travel time. That kind of covers them for 3.5 hours of delay.

    • A270 says:

Also, booked my flight through miles but for Virgin Upper Class, taxes were substantial. It seems flight will be further delayed. Are miles tickets covered for flight delay?

      • Genghis says:

Yes, miles flights are covered under EC261. I’d read up on the FT page for your circumstances but it’s all to do with arrival time (doors open). Amex Plat insurance is something else.

      • S**mo says:

covered.. but a little ‘foggy’ on what is returned!
3 hours on arrival time as far as im aware

      • Lyn says:

“Virgin Upper Class” sounds like your flight may be long-haul – i.e. more than 3,500 km. In which case I think it is 4 hours delay in arrival time rather than 3 hours. The rules are different for short, medium and long flights.

        • KevMc says:

It is still 3 hours, the difference is the amount you get:

          3+ hours, Between 1,500km and 3,500km = €400
3-4 hours, More than 3,500km, between an EU and non-EU airport = €300
4+ hours, More than 3,500km, between an EU and non-EU airport = €600

        • Bagoly says:

Stuck in a VS lounge for an extra two hours – that’s not the worst case scenario!

Although of course if it means you miss a cruise/wedding/business meeting etc then you do deserve more sympathy.

  • Jack says:

Off topic but LCY related, does anyone know why I can’t see any Avios availability for BA001 (LCY-JFK) at all, even looking a year ahead. I’ve heard murmurs that the service was stopping, but a cash ticket is still available in December (specifically I was hoping for Dec 19 and just wanted to get an idea of Dec availability for this year to compare, which sent me down this rabbit hole).

I did a full year search on Avios site and a few weeks on BAEC with zero availability. Any thoughts most welcome!
