BOOK NOW: 165 new PointBreaks hotels for just 5,000 to 15,000 IHG Rewards Club points

IHG Rewards Club (the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group) has just published its new list of heavily discounted PointBreaks redemptions.

You can book these hotels for stays until 30th November.

These hotels are bookable NOW via ihg.com.  Popular hotels will use up their allocation of reduced price rooms quickly, so book soon if you are interested.  As with all IHG Rewards Club reward nights, you can cancel without penalty at any time and get your points back.

PointBreaks has changed …..

Historically all PointBreaks rooms cost a flat 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night.

This was a great deal, except for the teeny tiny fact that the selection of hotels had been getting progressively worse for the last couple of years.  If you were looking for a good deal in a major tourist centre then you were going to be disappointed – although it was handy if you wanted a weekend break in Doncaster.  This has now changed.

The 165 hotels on the list below are priced at between 5,000 and 15,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night.  In general the quality of hotels included has gone up since the 5,000 point cap was removed, although at the end of the day it always depends on how the list fits around your travel plans.

What are the highlights?

Not surprisingly the better deals are at the 15,000 points level.

  • The QO in Amsterdam, an unbranded IHG hotel, looks interesting as does Crowne Plaza Potsdamer Platz in Berlin
  • Given we are heading into high season there, Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi would be a cheap Middle East break.  There is also a Muscat option.
  • In London, the Holiday Inn Express Wandsworth is surprisingly central although not on the tube.  There is a National Rail station a couple of minutes away and it is a short taxi ride into Battersea or up to Kings Road for entertainment.
  • The Venice hotel is NOT in central Venice so I’d be a little wary of that one
  • The two St Petersburg options look good although Russian visas are always painful to get
  • We reviewed the brand new InterContinental Ljubljana here and at 15,000 points it must be worth trying out a new European city if you’ve never been to Slovenia
  • InterContinental Kiev is also on the list

Booking

PointBreaks availability is limited so book ASAP if you are interested.

You can book via the IHG PointBreaks page here or via the standard booking page here.

You are able to book these hotels for dates up to 30th November.

You allowed a maximum of two bookings per individual hotel. Each booking can be for as many nights as you want.  Remember that if you attempt to amend your booking later by dropping a night or two the whole booking may reprice at the full rate.

I am still waiting for spg points to post

  • Joeb says:

I might have dreamt this but I thought spire elite now comes with comp breakfast? Or is this benefit coming soon…?

    • Genghis says:

You dreamt it! It was mentioned in an IHG survey I completed a couple of months ago.

    • Rob says:

      No, sadly not.

But they really need to pull their finger out because Marriott Plat now eats their lunch. Cutting nights from 75 to 50 (and adding another 1100 hotels), guaranteeing late check out and lounge access and rolling out some sort of breakfast benefit virtually everywhere must be hurting IHG.

      • Pangolin says:

Well Hilton has been eating their lunch (or rather, breakfast) for the longest time.

  • Denis P says:

Slightly OT: do Virgin Atlantic transfers to IHG Rewards Club still count towards status?

    Thank you.

    • Rob says:

      No, ended this year.

      • Mutley says:

O/T Currently staying at Park Hyatt Majorca, on this sites advice, best use of 10k points and 114 euros a night ever. Thanks Rob.

        • Rob says:

Result. I am tempted to give this a go – I now have enough Hyatt points for 2 rooms x 5 nights on ‘points and cash’.

  • Justin D says:

HIX Wandsworth is a decent enough hotel, and preferable to staying in a Travelodge or Premier Inn (mainly due to the breakfast) but 15k per night isn’t exactly a bargain given that this hotel is hormally around £85pn and can be available on discounted rates from £55. Seems like a bit of a liberty to put this in the same bucket as some of the other 15k hotels

    • Lady London says:

Yes I noticed that this time round some of the 15,000 hotels on the promotion, either are still 15,000 or were 15,000 or less, quite recently. I have a feeling IHG may be moving to make this promotion more or less “5,000 off the regular points cost” except for really cr*p hotels that aren’t getting bookiings otherwise.

IHG is close to completely losing my attention. Particularly after the last 3 rounds of Accelerate were ridiculous beyond the impossible. This time round Accelerate is not really worth doing either. So I think I’ve got the message IHG! Even Accor’s autumn promotion is better. I may not bother with Accor this time either due to issues with getting their call centre to help when hotels messed up bookings that lost me 4000 points. The hotels were fine they just did not know how to correct it, everyone acknowledged the problem but call centre has no idea how to fix either. Not best pleased at 80 euros down so have saved that from Accor by booking elsewhere.

  • Gromit says:

HIX Chester racecourse is not bad for 10k points.

It has free parking which is good considering it is just a couple of minutes walk from the centre. The quality of their breakfast was also better than the average HIX six months ago and hopefully will be still when my redemption stays come round!

  • Alex Sm says:

I stayed at CP St Petersburg Ligovsky several times and this is probably the best CP of all I ever been too. Great building and rooms, location is very central as well. Could be a decent deal though November is not the best month to spend outside. However, good for museums and unparalleled food&drink as St Pete is Russia’s culinary capital
