New Marriott Moments O2 concert redemptions launched

Marriott Rewards has launched some new concert tickets for their suite at the O2 Arena in Greenwich.

The catered box at the O2 is not a bad place to see a concert, as my review here shows. The food and drink on offer is excellent, albeit you are some distance from the stage.

OT Just received another Lloyds Avios upgrade voucher albeit already received one in May. I think my card anniversary is Nov..

    • Lev441 says:

Same happened to me, card anniversary not until January. Looks like they may be giving one final upgrade voucher per person…before the move over to the new cards…

    • Mark2 says:

Yes, I thought it was just a reminder, but indeed another voucher each.

      • s says:

Is this after spending another £7k, or just randomly? I only just earned my first one of the year for crossing the £7k threshold and no second voucher in my account.

    • Anna says:

Maybe a sweetener to try and persuade people to stick with the card? I’m going to check my avios account now!

      • Anna says:

I haven’t got one. Can’t complain though as I’ve had 4 in 2 years what with compo for the IT failure and everything.

    • KevMc says:

Ch-ching! Just checked my account and I have also got another one today, with an expiry date of 31st October 2019, having already got one in Jan/Feb this year (card anniversary is November)

Nothing for my wife, however. She still has her voucher from this year (received in May/June) in her account, unused, so this could be the reason?

      • Anna says:

I’m hoping they are just taking a little time to get round to us all!

      • Nick_C says:

OMG that’s fantastic. Me too. I’ve spent £19K since my account year started.

With two vouchers, am I right in thinking two people can travel together on return flights? Not quite as good as a 241 (120000 to NY instead of 100000) but a very nice (farewell) bonus.

Rob, worth an article on this?

        • meta says:

Some things are better left unsaid on a public forum. It might have been an IT error…

        • Rob says:

No idea what to say about it!

        • KevMc says:

Just checked my statements and I have spent about £15k on mine this year. Mrs Mc has around £8k, so it may be an error with anyone who has spent another £7k?

    • RTS says:

Gutted I have nothing albeit I haven’t used my card since hitting the 7k earlier on in the year. My anni date is December.

  • Genghis says:

OT BA flight this Friday just changed from 788 to 789. Improvement on my seat selection in J IMO as kept 7JK but now in smaller front cabin. But chances of F opening up?

    • Alex Sm says:

      where to?

      • Genghis says:

        ICN

      • Genghis says:

Called BA and F cabin not available for seat selection but J, W and Y all busy so op up potential? Any benefit to getting early to LHR?

        • Genghis says:

Update: First cabin open for seat selection so selected 1A and 2A. Chances of keeping these seats?

        • ChrisC says:

IF the F cabin does open up you will still get CW service. It wont be catered as F

It will only be opened up if CW is full and they need to upgrade from WT and WTP

        • Nick_C says:

They lose 27 seats in WT, gain 14 in WT+, 7 in CW, and 8 in F

So some nice upgrades for the people at the back

  • bsuije says:

Having a look at some of the other SPG experiences, these 2 stood out for me from a value perspective:
    – SIP HIGH TEA & MEET CELEBRITY AUTHOR AND AWARD-WINNING TV PERSONALITY, NIGELLA LAWSON AT THE SHERATON ON THE PARK, SYDNEY on 21 November -> 5k points for 2 tickets.
    – Single ticket to Hamilton on Broadway for the evening performance on 6 October – 75k points (via official website tickets for the Orchestra section are $595+!)

    • Rob says:

Nigella is quite big in Oz now so that might shoot up. We did a Jamie Cullum private concert in Dubai a couple of years ago via SPG Moments for a very low price … total coincidence it was on when we were there.

      • bsuije says:

Both of those were “buy” rather than “bid”, so prices not likely to increase unless someone at Marriott actively puts them up.

Just wish they were both for deals in London…

      • Crafty says:

Shoot up? It was cocaine rather than any harder stuff!

  • Vasco says:

Off topic: Just noticed Flybe changed earning terms for flights from Oct 1. You now earn 3 Avoid per £ on all ticket types, which is an improvement for the cheaper tickets (from 2), but worse for full fare (from 4). Hadn’t seen this reported elsewhere yet.

    • Rob says:

Thanks, not seen this. They have a new Head of Loyalty who started this week, who is an ex-Avios guy I know.

  • BS says:

OT: has anyone bought gift cards using Amex on-card offers at Selfridges in store and got the credit?

    • BlueHorizonuk says:

worked last time. There is no way for Amex to tell the difference on a instore purchase. they have no idea if you are buying a bottle of perfume or a gift card.

  • guesswho2000 says:

OT – IHG Premium/black card – is there some sort of magic or trickery involved to get your Platinum status upgrade? I also didn’t get the points transferred (statement confirmed 22,000 ish earned, 0 transferred), but that could be down to timing in opening of account, meeting spend criteria and statement production. The online account is definitely showing the correct IHG rewards club number.

Is there any chance this could be a conflict with the existing free/white version of the card? Their customer services are abysmal, the person I spoke to was adamant that they offered no card which offered Platinum status, and I had to walk them through their own website to find it, which just confused them in the end. In the end I was told I needed to call IHG and request the status, which just sounds ridiculous, because 1) my Gold upgrade with the white card worked (although I was platinum at the time, and it then just stayed gold forever, despite me not retaining it ‘properly for the last couple of years), and the points transfer fine from that one and; 2) if I could call up a hotel group and request status, presumably telling them in good faith that I held a certain credit card, everyone would do it.

Needless to say a complaint was filed online, which was acknowledged in writing (snail mail), but I’m not sure where to go from there. I’ll keep pushing back as I’ve paid the annual fee, and I’m currently out 24,000 points!

    • guesswho2000 says:

Was also a very strange application process, as the application was referred but subsequently approved, card sent out, I was able to use it to spend, then it, along with my online access was entirely blocked (coinciding perfectly with me leaving the country), so they could verify my identity and address…this was submitted and (after a phone call to follow up) my account and card unblocked, but it’s been a horrific process so far.

To date, my Creation ED & IHG White cards have been trouble free experiences, and the Marriott card of many years back the same (although something which looked like it was going to escalate into a dispute resulted in being complete ignored by Creation, but was luckily resolved amicably in the end prior to becoming a problem, I’ve been wary ever since and tend to use Amex if there’s the slightest possibility there could be a problem).

    • Michael Jennings says:

I recently applied for the IHG premium card. I already had the standard card – I now have both – and the upgrade from Gold to Platinum went through a few days after the application was approved. I wasn’t referred though – the application was approved straight away.

      • guesswho2000 says:

Thanks, glad yours went OK, we’ll see I suppose. I’m Ambassador too, and given how useless Platinum was to me before, I’m not too fussed about it, but I do want the points! And the free night certificate at the end of it all, once I’m £10k deep…

  • Mark2 says:

    OT
I have just taken out a subscription to the Economist giving me 10,200 Avios in an Aer Club account.

Has anyone cracked the mystery of how to transfer them to BAEC please?

    • Rob says:

Log in at avios.com and do Combine My Avios.

      • Mark2 says:

Do you mean using the AerClub credentials? I have tried that and I cannot get in.

        • Phil T says:

Just worked for me. Logged in to avios.com account, it showed my Aer Club Avios & I just followed the “transfer my avios” button.
          Avios transferred immediately

  • Anna says:

OT – is anyone keeping track of how fast BA is increasing the price of pre-booking seats? It’s now up to £110 to reserve a seat in CW, I’m, sure this is at least 2 increases this year.

    • Anna says:

Though are they charging by distance now? On my flight to NYC next year the maximum price to reserve a seat is £87 but on a flight to the Caribbean 3 months later it’s £110!

    • Nick_C says:

Seems to vary a lot. Last year, going to LAX on the A380, it would have been £99 pp each way to reserve in CW. We didn’t reserve in advance, and were very happy with centre and aisle on the upper deck in a half full cabin.

I’ve just booked to go to Tokyo in December on the 787-900. Out in First (for the first time, thanks Rob and HFP posters) back in CW. CW reservations are £83 for row 6, £76 for all other rows. Flight time is 12:40. I’m on a 241 so I could have saved £152 by giving them an extra 30000 Avios and coming back in First, but I don’t have sufficient Avios right now.

Incidentally, fees and charges were £1095.02. Buying these tickets (not that I ever would) would have been £8340 and they would not have been flexible!

    • Joseph Heenan says:

It is utterly ridiculous. I don’t particular care about exactly which seats I get but I do want to at least sit with my partner and it shouldn’t cost me another 20% on top of an already expensive ticket to achieve that.

It’s one of the big reasons I ask the travel agents my company deals with to avoid BA wherever they sensibly can, albeit I accidentally got to executive club silver this year so I’m currently slightly less unwillingly to fly BA than usual.
