Get a 20% bonus on hotel and credit card points transfers to Etihad Guest

Etihad Guest has launched another of its occasional transfer bonuses.

This is not a bad time to take advantage.  The recent ‘devaluation’ of Etihad Guest actually made business class flights between London and Abu Dhabi cheaper (read more here) – albeit taxes went up – and it is unlikely that we will see further changes for a couple of years.

Details of the transfer bonus are here.

For UK residents, the key transfer partners which will trigger a 20% bonus are:

Le Club AccorHotels

IHG Rewards Club

World of Hyatt

Radisson Rewards

Marriott Rewards

Hilton Honors

Shangri-La Golden Circle

HSBC Premier

It is important to note who is NOT on the list – American Express Membership Rewards.  You will not get a bonus if you transfer from here.  Note that Etihad Guest is no longer a Heathrow Rewards partner.

Transfers must be made by 30th October.  The bonus will be added in a separate transaction within 15 days of the end of the promotion.

You can find out more here. In addition, if you are not already an Etihad Guest member, you can sign up here and receive 500 bonus miles.

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Etihad Guest does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Etihad Guest miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Etihad Guest miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Etihad Guest mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

I ordered a lot of wine from Aldi in the summer for our wedding. Whilst they were taking amex by that point they weren’t on the website which was very annoying. They may do now of course

    • Anna says:

Yes I just placed an order and paid by Amex. I need to find a new Merlot to replace the my favourite Californian one which only Tesco Wine stocked!

Really appreciate some help with this:

My mothers PRGC had a date of 2nd October to hit her 20k points signup bonus. When I called her on the 2nd, the bonus was still showing as live although she hadnt yet made the 2k spend. I franatically got her to make a purchase, taking her over the 2k spend within the hour.

She hasn’t receieved the bonus though. I can only assume it’s because the purchase was ‘pending’ or 2nd October meant midnight 1st October rather than midnight 2nd October.

DOes anyone have any advice with this? SHould I speak to Amex and argue a case?

    Thanks in Advance

    • fivebobbill says:

If the bonus doesn’t add just call Amex CS, you’d have to get a real jobsworth wouldn’t add them manually…

  • Oli says:

So can we just book a prepaid hotel through Expedia through this and stay next year to get the 7000? Anything to look out for?

  • Rts says:

Still got sweet FA on any of my cards bar the Selfridge’s offer.

Thinking of a holiday to Australia next year but wondering whether to hit Qatar to Canberra now from Oslo or wait for the sale. 2k per person at the moment; are sale prices that much cheaper? Any experience?

    • KevMc says:

You should be able to get it down to at least £1500ish per person in the Qatar December/January sale (I think the lowest was £1350 last year), assuming you are free to travel outside the school holidays?

      • Stoneman says:

Yes I am free to travel whenever so it looks like I am best holding off then. Thanks.

      • LM says:

Is this sale likely to happen? It has been a long time since a decent Qatar sale it seems…

    • Stuart P says:

Assuming you’re not actually visiting Canberra, Oslo to Canberra is a lot of faff either side. I would look for a deal that only requires positioning at one end. We did Stockholm to Sydney and Melbourne back to Stockholm for £1300 in may with Qatar, but they (qr) haven’t had a sale that good in a year now, so no guarantee. Etihad were doing a deal from Stockholm for 1900eur recently.

  • Nick says:

So Rob, hypothetically, if an airport operator says ‘you can use my lounge but it’s this price and it’s take it or leave it’ but that price is very high, what do you suggest BA should do? Pay up but be less profitable, not pay and not have a lounge (they’re not exactly key destinations), or perhaps pull the route completely? Is your ‘campaign’ to have a lounge at any cost?

    • Alex W says:

Lounge access is supposed to be included in the price of Club Europe tickets. Otherwise you’re just paying extra for an empty middle seat and a prawn salad.

      • Shoestring says:

You could always be paying (in cheap IB points) for an empty middle, a prawn salad, x2 checked luggage, x3 or 4 lounges in T3 🙂

Main issue seems to be getting BA to accept the checked luggage more than 3 hrs before take off. Anybody got any ideas? I wouldn’t mind 4+ hrs in the lounges.

        • Rob says:

There is no ‘opening time’ for the desks on CE tickets. You can check in as early as you want – albeit at outstations you’re unlikely to find a BA desk open to accept your luggage. No problem in London though.

    • Rob says:

You have to assume that the airport is charging a commercially sensible rate, or the lounge would have no customers! And if it costs £5 more than other lounges, bung it onto the fare. Remember that a lot of BA routes don’t have any competition for Business Class passengers.

      • Rich says:

I guess they also have to factor in the cost of people with gold and silver cards who travel in great numbers in economy seats to European leisure destinations, plus their guests? And the seller of lounge space has to manage volumes to avoid revenue damaging ‘service issues’ caused by over crowding.

      • Doug M says:

Also say BA know that AY are paying €15 and BA are being asked €23 maybe that makes for a ‘No’ decision. We really don’t know what’s behind it.

    • Michael Jennings says:

I flew Club Europe back from Bordeaux a couple of weeks ago. I wasn’t expecting a lounge due to having read things here before, but I was asked at check-in if I wanted to use the lounge. I was in a bit of a hurry and the lounge was closing – the BA flight to London was the last flight of the day. The lady running the lounge was taking the food away as I entered, but at least I had a quick gin and tonic.

Not the fanciest lounge I have ever been in, but adequate, I think.

  • Bob says:

For the £250 spend / 7k points offer – just to clarify it can be on multiple transactions with the specified retailers totalling £250? Not limited to one transaction of £250+?

    Thanks

    • Shoestring says:

Can’t see the T&Cs but check whether the spend should all be with the same retailer, if so, multiple transactions (cumulative spend) would normally be OK

  • Rum says:

No offers on either Plat or Gold for me too. The Gold one is going next month due to a lack of offers. It’s been over five months that I’ve had the card and the offers have been pathetic. Should be able to get a BAPP again from November so will be going to that too and using my IHG Premium card in between.
The Plat has more offers in general, but the offering is still really quite poor for me.

    • RakishDriver says:

I have found the Plat to have more offers compared to previous Golds.
SPG zilch, though I’ve only just had my first statement, likewise BA card.
I wonder how they allocate the limited offers; random, or if using specific algo(s), based on what, previous spend, stores?
I did notice last year that lower spending family members would get the juicer offers on their referred golds.. maybe they keep chopping/changing
