Get a 20% bonus on hotel and credit card points transfers to Etihad Guest

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Etihad Guest has launched another of its occasional transfer bonuses.

This is not a bad time to take advantage.  The recent ‘devaluation’ of Etihad Guest actually made business class flights between London and Abu Dhabi cheaper (read more here) – albeit taxes went up – and it is unlikely that we will see further changes for a couple of years.

Details of the transfer bonus are here.

For UK residents, the key transfer partners which will trigger a 20% bonus are:

Le Club AccorHotels

IHG Rewards Club

World of Hyatt

Radisson Rewards

Marriott Rewards

Hilton Honors

Shangri-La Golden Circle

HSBC Premier

It is important to note who is NOT on the list – American Express Membership Rewards.  You will not get a bonus if you transfer from here.  Note that Etihad Guest is no longer a Heathrow Rewards partner.

Transfers must be made by 30th October.  The bonus will be added in a separate transaction within 15 days of the end of the promotion.

You can find out more here. In addition, if you are not already an Etihad Guest member, you can sign up here and receive 500 bonus miles.

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Etihad Guest does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Etihad Guest miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Etihad Guest miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Etihad Guest mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

Tesco now religiously expire points at exactly 2 years and will not let you have them back once they are expired. They used to allow 6 months after expiry in which they would reinstate them if you phoned up and said you were collecting for something expensive like Irish Ferries with a car.

They do at least now send you two reminder emails about impending voucher expiry but it is still immoral that they only have a 2 year and not 5 year voucher validity given how much shopping is needed for a car and four people across the Irish sea (at least £100 of vouchers so £10,000 of shopping at Tesco which would take me at least three years).

They will quite often roll over and reissue a voucher just about to expire in the last day or two before expiry for 2 more years but this is much more likely with the nice helpful Tesco Clubcard line in South Wales rather than the generally dour and feisty one up in Scotland. However to keep most of your vouchers and gain a 2 year extension automatically, without a human involved, just take a large voucher like £20 or £50 and redeem only £2.50 worth in to BA Avios points (or currently £5.00 of vouchers to get the 1,000 extra Avios promotion during this month) and all the unspent portion of the voucher will then be reissued to you at the end of the quarter as a new voucher or vouchers with a further 2 years of validity……………

Tesco lost my business in 2018. There always seems to be a ‘£20 off new customer order’ floating around the internet for Sainburys, Waitrose and ASDA. And now that they are beginning to stop putting best before dates on vegetables etc., I suspect they will go down the LIDL route where every other item is mouldy. Getting rid of best before dates – fine. But put on ‘packed on’ or ‘produced on’ dates instead. Nearly as balmy as legislating for the box containing Shetland on maps to be prohibited. You couldn’t make it up!!

      • mike says:

as a Shetlander, I whole heartedly support this initiative. we have suffered discrimination at the hands of mainlanders for too long now, about time something was done about it.

now, off to the pastures to give my sheep a good seeing to.

      • Callum says:

        1. The box isn’t prohibited (so it seems you can indeed make it up). The Scottish government merely needs to put the Shetlands in their actual location where practical when publishing maps. A rather trivial thing but it’s hardly crazy…

        2. About time – a staggering amount of vegetables are thrown away because of the arbitrary best before date printed on them. If, as a presumably fully grown adult, you’re incapable of working out how fresh fruit and vegetables are without help from a vague guess on the packet, I suggest you learn. It’s a skill you really should have mastered by now…

    • Mark says:

Yes, that’s what I tend to do if I have no immediate need for the bulk of the vouchers. I’ll put the minimum amount against something that I know I’ll make use of, such as PayasuGym vouchers, Uber credit or the minimum Avios top-up. That we I get to keep a healthy balance in relatively flexible Tesco vouchers, until I either have an immediate redemption need or an attractive conversion offer comes along.

    • Sussex Bantam says:

      Immoral ??!?

  • Josh says:

How many Amex cards can one person have ?( is it limited to 4?)

(Obv want to max out my referrals from my missus)

    • Rum says:

Rob has previously said on his site that “the general rule is two charge cards and two credit cards”. Not sure if there is a hard and fast rule about this though.

      • Peter K says:

That seems to be an old rule no longer enforced now. Several people have multiple credit cards from Amex, plus a charge card, at the same time.

      • Rob says:

I think that went when Gold moved from charge to credit.

        • Rum says:

Thanks for clarifying Rob. That would make sense actually as there is now a clear imbalance between credit and charge cards.

    • josh says:

      thanks all

Was accepted for my 4th card tonight (may cancel one I dont use and apply for another )

  • jason says:

OT: moving avios from Iberia to BA….I can move from BA to Iberia but not the other way is that related to the 90 day rule?

    thanks
    Jason

    • Anne-Marie says:

You need to do: Iberia > Avios [AerLingus] > BA. Both transfers can be done directly from the Avios [AerLingus] website.

  • Graham Walsh says:

OT In the T5 Plaza Premium lounge and never seen it so busy. Regardless food is good and I managed to get a seat right at the end.

    • Rob says:

You’re the 3rd person to mention this. Something is clearly ‘up’. It MIGHT be the roll-out of Dragonpass to NatWest Black customers in the last couple of weeks, although that assumes people bothered working out where it could be used vs their old Priority Pass.

      • N says:

I was there two weeks ago – three of us had to sit at the bar (not too happy about that!). They let me +1 in for free with Amex Plat, and charged £28 for the third. The £8 extra compared to Aspire was worth it (especially considering the trek between the two!)

      • Stevie G says:

I passed thru earlier and asked. It is precisely because of Nat West customers and Nat West’s switch to Dragon Pass recently.

        • Stu N says:

Access to the T5 PP lounge is highlighted on the covering letter that comes with the DragonPass.

          • Rob says:

That’s why then. I thought it was a bit suspicious that the average NatWest customer had worked it out for themselves 🙂

        • Nick says:

A relative (as far from a HFPer as it’s possible to get) has the NatWest product. His routine before any flight is to check whether he can use a lounge and if so which one. Never ‘remembered’ from last time, always checked afresh. I think we don’t give such people enough credit, despite how unwilling they are to listen and learn how to do things properly!

          • Rob says:

It is VERY heavily pushed in the letter NatWest sent with DP. I have seen the letter now.

    • Brian S says:

Ah man that’s my go to place in T5 ruined :-p

OT: tried to use Curve to pay for “Financial Services” using my IHG card and it has been declined by IHG. Is everyone else having this prob or just me?

Do you think it would go through if I linked my Curve to my Virgin credit card instead of IHG?

    • Rob says:

      Try £200.

      • Axel says:

Even £200 has stopped working ….

        so has £100 …….. 🙁

        • Anna says:

It’s not allowed me to do this since my first transaction!

        • js54156 says:

the same happened to me. All the organic transactions went through as usual, but transactions for ‘financial services” were declined.

        • Jordie says:

I tried 1200 then 500 then 250 and finally it worked. Tried again but it failed so will try again tomorrow

        • RakishDriver says:

Today I successfully made a £100+ payment to the plat using curve, linked to IHG.

Previous payments kept failing/declined – seems random results past few weeks.

This is you guys paying your Amex bills I presume rather than HMRC?
