Our review of Aspire Rewards – and how Priority Pass lounge visits count

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Aspire Rewards is the little-known reward scheme for Aspire and Club Aspire airport lounges in the UK, except for those at Heathrow and Gatwick.

It isn’t widely used, but it shoud be on your radar because Priority Pass and DragonPass visits count.  What is better than picking up an extra reward from something that you are not paying for in the first place?

You can find out more on the Aspire Rewards website here.

Aspire Rewards is app based, available via the Apple and Google app stores.  There is no ‘non digital’ alternative.

You need to download the Aspire Rewards app, create an account and then scan the QR code in the app each time you enter an Aspire lounge.

As far as I can see, there is no ability to drop the membership card into Apple Wallet which is a little annoying.

Aspire Rewards loyalty scheme review

How do you earn Aspire Rewards points?

The scheme is simplicity itself:

  • You earn 4 points per £1 if you book via executivelounges.com or pay on the door
  • You used to earn 50 points per lounge visit (25 points for a child) if you enter via a Priority Pass or other lounge scheme card – the website now says that you earn “a set amount of points displayed within the lounge at the time of visit”
  • You will also earn “a set amount of points displayed within the lounge at the time of visit” if you visit an Aspire lounge because it is your official airline lounge, eg Newcastle where British Airways passengers use the Aspire lounge.

Importantly, “multiple visitors within one transaction can be added to one loyalty account”.

You can only earn points at UK Aspire lounges, excluding the Heathrow and Gatwick sites.

How do you spend Aspire Rewards points?

There are two sorts of rewards:

  • 500 points gets you a free lounge visit – this does NOT seem to be transferable because you redeem by scanning your phone
  • 700 points gets you a £5 shopping voucher (when available, which at present they are not)

Historically you could get shopping vouchers for John Lewis, Amazon and Marks & Spencer, and the Aspire website still shows their logos. These seem to come and go, weirdly, and at present the only reward option showing in the app is a free lounge visit.

If you are paying cash for your lounge visits then the scheme is generous. You’d be getting a free visit for every 4-5 paid visits. It is weak if you are visiting purely on Priority Pass cards.

Note that your points have a 24 month hard expiry – activity does not keep them alive.

  • Alan says:

Out of interest, have you spoken to the Aspire team at all about the shopping vouchers? I’ve not seen them in years. Also the app only shows a balance, not when you earned the points so will be tricky to work out expiry! If it is truly just a free visit for the cardholder then that’s pretty pointless for those with unlimited PP.

    • Alan says:

Have emailed them a few weeks ago but no reply. Rhys/Rob – have you any contacts you can reach out to and ask what’s happening to the voucher options?

  • Nate1309 says:

In the pecking order of who’s allowed in or not. If they are refusing PP at the time will they accept a free entry from their own club? If so it could be valuable at busy times.

    • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

This is the key question for me also, and the only reason I bother to collect.

      • Ikaz says:

They didn’t let us in either of the Edinburgh lounges when they were not accepting PP, (so called full) a serious drawback of the programme for me

  • His Holyness says:

My points are alive and kicking for years and years, CS told me they won’t expire?

    • Alan says:

Not sure, they’ve got a ‘news article’ in the app re extending validity due to COVID. If you’ve got it in writing from them by email they should reinstate them though if they do expire!

  • Chris W says:

So what’s the set amount of points per PP visit or airline status visit? 5? After 100.visits you earn a free visit?

  • r* says:

Why do the LHR/LGW lounges not participate?

The T5 one barely participates in being a lounge, but they could atleast contribute towards a £5 amazon voucher (assuming they still offer that and didnt bin it off like the shopping voucher options?) 🙂

Escape lounge used to have a loyalty scheme too, albeit only for free entry but they took the opportunity to ditch that when they reopened after covid.

  • Stuart says:

Avoid them like the plague! I built up 1000 points, so enough for 2 free lounge visits from visiting the lounge at LHR T3. Whrn I tried to redeem them to visit the same lounge, I was told they didn’t accept them and I had to go to Birmingham, Manchester etc if I wanted to use them. Birmingham is a 3 hour drive and Manchester is 4 hours 30 so no chance of that! Absolute waste of time.
