Virgin Atlantic launches a special New York City World Pride flight for 2019

Virgin Atlantic is launching a unique flight to take you to the World Pride event in New York next June.

This will be a flight like no other, it’s fair to say.  Staffed entirely by LGBT+ pilots and cabin crew, it will be hosted by Tituss Burgess – a Broadway musical actor and star of the Netflix show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – and will feature special guests and live performances.

It will include an on board DJ, ‘Drag-Queen Bingo’, a Judy Garland singalong, inter-seat speed dating and special in-flight entertainment.

A portion of ticket sales from the flight will be donated to The Attitude Magazine Foundation in the UK.  Further fundraising and raffles will take place on-board.

The flight departs from Heathrow to Newark on 28th June.  Flexible return dates are available.

Flight-only information is on the Virgin Atlantic website here.  Economy seats start at £380 so there doesn’t seem to be any surcharge for the entertainment, given that June is approaching peak season.  You can only book by telephone.

Flight plus hotel packages are available via Virgin Holidays here.

  • Am says:

If you go via mse and can tie up £465 then you can make £35 and not have to pay groupon anything. This has then gone to offsetting my curve black card. The link is here https://www.fairfx.com/l/mseeverywhere?utm_campaign=everywherecard&utm_source=moneysavingexpert&utm_medium=affiliate
and no need to pay groupon anything. Depends whether you have the money to tie up for a few days

    • Roger says:

Can you use Amex or any other CC (without fees) to top up the card?

    • pablo says:

Groupon deal is better. If you top up with $72 to cover $2 ATM fee and then just withdraw $70 at a travelex/moneycorp ATM you are getting an exchange rate of 1.85

      • Am says:

Each deal is different as to what you can put in. Why would I only want £25 and also pay groupon £6 for the voucher when the mse ones free. I don’t want the dollar card the mse deal is the pound card and only 50p cash machine fee. I don’t want use it for forexvas I get the mastercard rate with curve

      • New Dad 99 says:

Moneycorp ATMs only dispense $20 bills so no way of withdrawing $70.

      • Genghis says:

        Top up Revolut $ acct?

  • vol says:

    Hi

I have an existing Fairfx account but with no dollar card

I logged in to redeem but there is nowhere to put the voucher code in

Or it’s not as immediately obvious as when I get quite far in the process it doesn’t give me a code

So I tried with a different email address and still nothing

So I assume this is for new customers

    Or is there another way?

    ????

  • @mkcol says:

That Virgin flight looks like hell on earth to me, just as well it’s phone-only bookings so I couldn’t accidentally book it.

    • pablo says:

They should have invited Pam Ann as head purser.

    • Geoff says:

Doesn’t seem very ‘inclusive’ if it is restricted to LGBT+.

      • Geoff says:

        Staff that is.

      • B says:

What a ridiculous thing to say. Your comment is one of the reasons Pride is celebrated. I’m sure the flight will ‘include’ all sexual and gender identities. Maybe teach yourself what the ‘+’ stands for. Also, there are hundreds of people that make a flight successful; dispatchers, ground crew, catering, bus drivers, immigration, I’m sure that people from all walks of life will be represented, so you can rest easy.

        • David says:

So what does the + mean then, and how does LGBT+ differ from ‘human’ ? If it is in any way discriminatory, it’s not inclusive, and if it doesn’t, then it’s no different from any other flight.

        • Genghis says:

Our LGBT group at work was called “LGBT and weird straights” for a while until they were asked to change it!

        • Gail says:

          Good response B.
          Other comments thoughtless and tiresome.

        • Dogface says:

Well I will be giving the virgin flight a miss, can’t imagine the drama on there :/

  • Cat says:

The Virgin flight looks like a blast, but it would be useful to know flight times, which I couldn’t see on the Virgin page (it’s entirely possible I’ve missed them somewhere).
No upper class though daaaarling? Really?

  • Eric the Half a Bee says:

O/T as bits: Is there a way I can use my wife’s Amex MR points to top up my SQ KrisFlyer account? Thanks in advance.

    • Rob says:

No – unless they only look for a surname match, in which case you might get away with it. Best bet is to try the smallest possible test transfer.

      • Eric the Half a Bee says:

        Will do, thanks Rob.

        • JFSV says:

Careful with the SQ Krisflyer team though – they very often ask for copies of passport/id by email to verify name match, in cases where miles are not credited on time, etc.

      • Me Dee says:

Do you know of any MR that only check surname or address or neither?

        • Rob says:

Nectar didn’t used to check the name, neither did Radisson Rewards, as I have in the past moved from my wife to me using accounts in her maiden name. May have changed but very low minimums to those two if you want to test. Radisson is arguably the most valuable MR partner too.

  • Mycity says:

Am I right in assuming there’s no credit check on the prepaid master cards?

    • Rob says:

The Groupon page explains the checks that are done if you scroll down to the terms.

    • Max says:

Correct. Just a check for the electoral register.

      • Mr. AC says:

Foiled again by the pesky electoral register! *sigh* (not eligible to be on it due to being a pesky foreigner)

        • Shoestring says:

You can get on it if you are an EU citizen or a qualifying Commonwealth citizen (someone who has leave to enter or remain in the UK, or does not require such leave), just not vote in general elections (you *can* vote in local elections)

        • Chris says:

Commonwealth nationals (and Irish, Zimbabweans) can vote in all elections including Generals.

        • Mr. AC says:

I’m neither an EU or a Commonwealth citizen.

There was one guy that told me that there exists a mechanism for other folk to get on the register for identification purposes, but my local council knew nothing about this and googling doesn’t help either.

I’m assuming this is just a rumor, and so I’m stuck with jumping through ridiculous hoops and invoking the FCA complaint mechanism every time I want to open a current account in one bank or another…

        • Mike says:

@Mr. AC: You can still sign up to being on the electoral register if you’re from an EU or commonwealth country. I don’t know if that applies in your case?

        • Callum says:

I haven’t been on the electoral roll for years but still get approved for new accounts without fuss. Are you sure there isn’t something else causing this?

  • Frenzie says:

Are there reward seat for Pride flight?

  • Phil G says:

New customers only for the FX card.
