Save on new luxury hotels in Asia with Mastercard and Be The First

You can save on new luxury hotels in Asia with Mastercard and Be The First.

Be The First, if you haven’t heard of it before, is a website specialised in offering discounted rooms at new luxury and boutique hotels.

We covered it a couple a years ago when it launched but, to be honest, I thought it had faded away.

I was wrong, and to prove it the company has recently partnered  with Mastercard, offering cardholders even better prices at new upscale hotels in Asia.

Offers vary depending on the property and could be for example 30% off or stay 3 pay 3 nights.  All hotels included can be found on this special partner website here. More hotels will be added as the partnership advances.

OT Anyone know of a site that would show why flight LS331 LBA-FCO was delayed 3 hours 25 mins yesterday. Can find sites showing delay but not the reason why. I am on it next week and was checking the flights punctuality record. Thanks.

The new Crowne Plaza T4 Exec Lounge won’t open until next year. This is the email I received when I asked about my upcoming reservation.

“The Club Lounge will be open early next year as we are still fine-tuning some details in order to live up to guest expectations. You still can enjoy it in a different place, in our Tea Salon every day from 18:00 – 19:30.
We thank you for your patience and understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you in the near future.”

    • Rob says:

Looks I won’t be reviewing it then, which is a bit annoying because we’ve agreed a deal with IHG already.

  • BJ says:

OT @Harrry et al…disaster at Tesco!

    • Genghis says:

Do tell. avios4genghis@gmail.com if you don’t wish to post.

    • David says:

      Is this about Christmas Saver?

    • Andrew M says:

That disaster being? A Xmas Savers related one? And of what nature?

      • David says:

I’m guessing… xmas saver vouchers have to be spent in Tesco, and can’t be converted into Avios etc?

        • Andrew M says:

Not directly. But we already knew that. So the question stands. What disaster?

        • Shoestring says:

The disaster will be in-store CS not knowing how to process what BJ wanted. Or even having that option. Right, BJ?

Might vary if you go to a great big Tesco superstore & they know their onions. I was going to find items to the exact value of my vouchers, so that I’d never used a credit card for payment in the first place.

        • xcalx says:

My vouchers came in £18 and £17.50 values plus the £12 time limited bonus voucher ( sneakily at the bottom of the list)

    • BJ says:

LOL, I thought that might cause a few palpitations this lunchtime 🙂 All is well to best of my knowledge, just a bit of a mess for me as I tried to be too clever and talked too much. Tip: focus on shelved items as opposed to stuff behind CS counter to avoid unexpected inconvenience. And as always, probably makes more sense to go to Tesco st weekends when the ‘kids’ are in.

      • Scallder says:

You did it all in the same day? I was planning on leaving it at least a few days…

        • BJ says:

No, went to CS desk to get an iPad that was supposed to be in stock but wasn’t. Having told the lady at the desk I had saved all year for an iPad I didn’t have the nerve to go back and get a laptop or something so I’m back to square one 🙂 Came away empty handed, will try again Wednesday and avoid talking nonsense to the employees.

        • Shoestring says:

all to play for still 🙂

    • Prune says:

      ? tesco money card?

    • BJ says:

@Harry, lady today said underspend goes back into account. How do you read that? She appeared to know what she was talking about. I cannot decide whether best to go to somebody like her or one of the younger ones at weekend and try to encourage them along the appropriate path.

      • Shoestring says:

LY they wouldn’t let me use a voucher for more than the cost of goods @ till or online

Xmas saver vouchers could be different to normal vouchers in that respect

  • Alex B says:

OT – Is it possible to redeem VS miles against premium cabins on DL for US Domestic flights?
I’m looking loosely along the lines of SFO/LAX/LAS > JFK/LGA/EWR and only seeing economy redemptions.

If not VS then any suggestions for AMEX MR compatible carriers going east to west as above?

    Many Thanks

    • Rob MC says:

Are you looking on the virgin website? If they are available they should come up when you select upper if there are any available. What dates are you looking at and I can take a quick look

      • Alex B says:

Yes the virgin website is only showing economy for all of April 2019 so I’m not sure if its sold out or just not possible – Thanks

    • Richard says:

Yes you can, but it is saver award availability dependant and on Transcon flights these are highly demanded so hard to find, esp. out of NYC

    • Rob says:

Yes, I booked First Class from Atlanta to Washington in June, no problems.

  • Lady London says:

OT apologies if others have asked this – I still haven’t received my code after having signed up on the HfP link for Amazon Business – has anyone? I know Rob is doing his best. Hoping I will be able to use the code by the last date of validity which is Wednesday this week.

If you’re also waiting for your code, did you receive it yet?

    • Rob says:

Everyone has them – well, literally 1% do not who should have one. The rest are people who ticked ‘do not contact me’ when setting up the account and are now surprised that Amazon is not contacting them 🙂 I accept this is weird and should have been clear by them at the outset, they didn’t even tell me until Friday.

If your AB account has ‘do not send me marketing emails’ ticked then you’re not getting a voucher. If you untick it there may be a way of forcing it through.

If it is unticked then you are in the 1% and I will try to sort it.

      • Lady London says:

I’ve just checked the communications section (which i hadn’t known existed on the account) and both mail (post) and email preferences had defaulted to my receiving them. So all well. I’m in the 1% I’m afraid – all looks ok.

(I’ve literally just taken off the “send me stuff by post” flag. But I’ve left the “OK to send me emails” flags set on, as they were). Haven;t switched on the “invoice me” thing either.

I’ve completely forgotten how one is supposed to receive the code. If sorted, will it come by email? or, do they put it on the homepage for when you login? my amazon business email the AB account is set up under is the veri**r email – not same as my regular posting email for HfP

        • Rob says:

It is emailed. Send me an email reminder of your registered detail and I will forward it across. We are literally down to 0.75% though who haven’t had it (excluding a few people with the wrong privacy settings).

  • Lady London says:

Hum! Good news about Malaga – Helsinki. Let’s just hope that British Airways does not decide to move Malaga, like they moved Boston ! Am thinking part pay with Avios, if it’s available, might reduce the cost of getting the tier points.

  • Owain says:

The conversion bonus isn’t mentioned on the Tesco website, but is shown on the Virgin Atlantic site – https://www.virginatlantic.com/gb/en/flying-club/partners/shopping/tesco-clubcard.html

  • KevMc says:

O/T Tesco Xmas vouchers…I cannot see these in the ‘vouchers’ section of the app; should they be there now, or do they only get sent out as physical vouchers through the post?

    • Genghis says:

Xmas saver vouchers are in account for me and wife.

      • KevMc says:

Thanks Genghis. It might be because I am in the US, as I know the app can be a bit funny about accessing it from outside the UK, but I have another ‘normal’ £2 voucher which I can see, so it seems to only be the Xmas ones missing. I will chase them once I get back at the weekend.

      • Scallder says:

        +1
