  Half OT (spending my daily 50 Marriott points)- is there currently 5 nights for 4 on reward nights at ‘SPG’ hotels (I’m looking at a stay in April)? And do you get 5 for 4 on cash+points bookings? Thanks.

    yeah you get 5 for 4 on cash and points bookings, i recently did this as it shows you the cash rate and some of the nights were $140 so didn’t make sense to pay 50k points per night.

      Thanks. I’ll need to do my sums. I don’t have masses of points so a “5 for 4” c+p booking would increase my choice of hotel. So rare for me to stay 5 nights in one place…

    They’re not going to cut APD just yet – no need & it’s like fuel duty – the gift that keeps on giving, feathers plucked w/ barely a hiss.

    (If Scotland (or Wales for that matter) abolished APD, that might get a reaction.)

      APD will not be cut or abolished in Scotland as long as SNP needs the greens. Doubt it has anything to do with EU rules as they claim.

    Longhaul increasing with inflation and shorthaul not changing if I caught the details correctly. But, no worries, Britain indeed open for business…a few more electronic gates at Heathrow for use by Americans and some others

      Yep but since airlines collect the tax a year in advance (often) – then the rates announced today are for 2020-21 – we already knew up until 2020 APD rate & it was set in stone (sort of)

        Air Passenger Duty (APD) – Short-haul APD rates for 2020-21 will not rise, remaining at the same level they have been since 2012, benefitting 80% of passengers.64 Long-haul rates will increase in line with RPI. The rates for long-haul economy will increase by £2, and the rates for those travelling in premium economy, business and first class will increase by £4.   Slightly OT: Is there a website that will tell you your fare code from your confirmation/reservation reference and surname? I’ve tried CheckMyTrip and Kayak but they’re only giving me the class not the letter (F,J,O,..)? I’m trying to work out whether a future booking is lowest,low,flexible economy to check whether I’m going to make my tier point target.

  Completely OT: What happens to a booking where a codeshare partner goes out of business? Does the ticketing airline have any obligations to arrange alternative travel?

  Also, thanks to Rob and Ghengis for previous replies to my other queries on lounges and Amex referrals!
