  • Mat says:

Completely OT but is anyone else waiting with bated breath for an ex-eu Qatar sale early Nov? It’s been quite some time since we saw anything decent via Doha but I recall a decent sale (perhaps the last decent one) around this time last year.

    • Russ says:

Yep you’re not alone. Hoping we’d have had something by now as I’ve an Emirates or Qatar A380 decision to make. Guess we’ll just have to be patient Mat unless Rob knows something.

    • Meadowlark says:

Email just arrived in my inbox: two-day Qatar business class sale for travel up to March 2019. Haven’t checked prices yet.

  • Tom Ck says:

Finally got more than 50pts or the entry into the draw on the SPG game. Only 500 but better than usual!

Also, last two days of the Now TV stick being on offer at Tescos for £20 with 500 clubcard points. I’ve finally ventured into buying a few of these and have been amazed at how well they sell on ebay and to colleagues. Buy for £20, sell for £18 inc postage, so £2 for 525 Clubcard points when using pay+. Not bad.

    • Genghis says:

Good sale price. I certainly couldn’t get anywhere near that back end of last year on the boxes.

      • JPa says:

Splitting the passes out worked well (but you had to watch out for the sky police, who monitor ebay and claim copyright infringement for selling passes so you had to get them sold quickly before they noticed! They don’t seem to have an issue if selling with the box) , I was coming out with about £16 after all frees etc for the £12.50 tesco boxes. Getting about £8-9 for the passes and about £8 net for the boxes. Therefore making about £4 a box and getting my 500 points.

Annoyingly these boxes are now making about £20 delivered now (so would have been about £15 net). They seem to have gone up on price now you can’t by them anymore in the ships.

I don’t think they will be coming back at £12.50 again (although someone did report some at £14)

        • Genghis says:

Very good. I was making a slight loss in cash but was buying £1 Uber credit for 14p or so so was still happy.

        • Tilly71 says:

The Sky police also have issues selling complete boxes. Your lucky if they didn’t cancel your listings.

        • Tom Ck says:

My other half sold 3 boxes for me and on the last sale she did the listing got cancelled (albeit after it had sold and been posted weirdly), so we had the cash. This was as a result of sky challenging the listing.

      • Tom Ck says:

I’ve also been thankful for a few colleagues / friends who wanted one to take away with them to holiday rentals for this half term – was always happy to take a small loss on the box but have been paid in full which is great.

    • Nick_C says:

If you had paid with a Tesco Debit Card, you would have got 545 CCPs.

    • Andy says:

Am I missing something or does postage not cost you anything?

      • Tom Ck says:

I can post for free which helps manage the loss better than if I had to send these out!

    • Tilly71 says:

Was those figures inc your eBay fees & PP fees, another £2 loss at best.

      • Tilly71 says:

Add postage at £2.95 best at PO and fees your more looking at nearer 1p a point.

    • FlyUpTop says:

You made a loss of £2 per box, you got free postage but you still had to pay ebay & PP fees. If outside of ebay £1 FVF you probably paid best part of £3 per box in fees so £5 loss in total. How did you make your calculations at only £2?

      • Tom Ck says:

I shifted a number at £20 to friends and colleagues, and sold a few others on ebay (5) so the balance out is around £2 on average but yes on those that I sold through ebay the loss was greater than £2.

  • Steve says:

I’ve logged into my Clubcard account and it doesn’t appear to be showing the 10% bonus for me. It shows the rate as being 625 miles for £2.50 of vouchers, which I think is the normal rate. No sign of a special offer, even if I click through.

Am I missing something that I need to do?

  • Tescococo says:

Question for the Tesco Christmas voucher gurus: Anything I should know before my return visit to the tesco store?

Ps the 10p discount fuel voucher was an unexpected extra perk of this little game

    • Shoestring says:

yep you need to ask a very specific question about what CS are planning to do before they hit the button – Tesco policy is it should go back to the source from which it came & you prefer it that way of course

      • Meadowlark says:

I was researching this issue myself too. For online purchases/returns the Tesco T&Cs are clear: goods paid with vouchers are refunded with equivalent value in CC points. But I’m concerned about breaching the 30K points ceiling. Any thoughts on this?

        • Genghis says:

Erm, don’t breach the quarterly limit. Vouchers don’t expire for two years.

        • BJ says:

Oh thanks 🙂 Yesterdays cloud had a silver lining then, forgot about that, I was about to buy an iPad at £319. I’m making too many schoolboy errors of late.

      • HeathrowFlyer says:

Any benefit of in-store vs online on this?

      • Tescococo says:

Hmm. Complete refusal to refund onto points. “Sorry sir that’s not how it works since we stopped doing double up. Can only refund onto gift card”. Did I just get three numpties who don’t know how?

        • Shoestring says:

possibly – we need more info/ test results

        • Shoestring says:

your arguments will be 1. pls see T&Cs, oh, I have a copy here, have a look 2. points can be worth 3x value eg Uber so I’ll have points back please

      • Tescococo says:

Did i make a mistake buying in store rather than online?

      • Tescococo says:

        Fail.

Store 1: Not possible, get lost

Store 2: I’ll see. Press a million buttons. No, not possible now we don’t have the tesco direct tills.

Store 3: Hmm, let’s see. Press buttons. Oh yes (ooh this sounds good) Here. (hands me a sodding gift card).

Um, So you can’t do it then?

        Nope, sorry.

      • Tilly71 says:

        No GC as choice.

  • pauldb says:

OT: Is it old news that avios.com are now actually migrating. My Mum & Dad’s accounts have moved, and positively his Lloyds avios for this month have correctly credited to BAEC.

    • Shoestring says:

      old

      • Simon says:

On this subject I just tried to log in to avios to redeem a voucher which expired tomorrow… Of course my account was closed yesterday – I see the transferred points in my BA account but no vouchers – is this a call to BA now? Will they have a clue what I’m talking about??

        • pauldb says:

          The avios.com FAQ says call 0344 49 333 49.

        • pauldb says:

If you’re in a BAEC household account it would be interesting to know if they take the avios from your individual or HHA balances (forcibly or optionally).

        • Simon says:

I am in a HHA, I’ll report back with what happens.

        • Anna says:

I did 2 phone bookings with the Lloyds voucher a couple of months ago. They took 100,000 avios (for 2 x CW seats) each time from my HHA with no issues, I wouldn’t have had enough avios in my own account but the option never even came up.

        • pauldb says:

          Thanks

        • Simon says:

Just called the number Paul suggested on the voucher expiry date.
They new what I was talking about – phew
They had to reactivate my avios account, transfer them across.
All avios came from my individual account.
LHR – JFK peak Premium economy out and off peak business back (46k avios instead of 90k)
          Quite pleased with that .
          Thanks all.

  • Zack Williams says:

Are there any whispers as to whether Tesco will be doing a avios conversion bonus anytime in the future?

    • Tilly71 says:

They offered 20% bonus on auto conversions recently so maybe!

      • Shoestring says:

I’d have thought the fact that they limited the 20% to 1. targeted people 2. just that quarter’s points means Tesco are not interested in doing it properly again in the near future

        • FlyUpTop says:

          We will wait and see…

        • Genghis says:

Remember there’s also the (I believe targeted) 1k avios offer which I’ve gone for (avios for me at 0.68p opportunity cost, I’m in).

        • Tilly71 says:

          Disagree Shoestring with your statement.
          1. For BA to offer 20% even if limited in offer means that bonuses are and have been discussed at higher level recently.
          2. With such discussions & agreements to have taken place already gives good grounds that future bonuses are very much possible.

        • Shoestring says:

Hope so, got a few points backed up waiting for a good home, 10% Virgin doesn’t do it for me & no Uber

  • Matt says:

OT bits: can anyone give me an idea of taxes/ charges on Aegean short haul, please? Website won’t let you price up flights if you don’t have enough points and I’m wondering if it’s worth transferring Marriott to Aegean. Thanks.

    • John says:

Check on ITA and A3 adds a €20 booking fee

      • Matt says:

Thanks. So €34 ex ATH to an island, €14 ex island. Trying returns on two random dates (admittedly off peak) and two random islands, ‘value’ came out as 0.38p and 0.14p / pt. Points will be staying with Marriott rather than funding some island hopping…

  • Chris says:

Ref the HH downtime the sites been warning about it for a few days and implied it’ll be offline entirely across the two days – but the wording to me suggested it was more than just the website, that it was callcentre too?

I cancelled a load of stays for the end of tje weekend/start of next as their now instance cancellation policies extended back into the downtime so I wasn’t taming the risk and rebooked with MR (plusside, Terrific value RC redemption for Sat)

My Hilton BNA booking for Friday needed cancelling by midnight last night! What is flex coming to mean?!
