Why a 40% bonus when you buy World of Hyatt points means a good Mallorca deal

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Until 27th November, Hyatt is offering a 40% bonus when you buy World of Hyatt points via this link.

This is as big as World of Hyatt bonuses get.  It is also the most generous, with the full 40% bonus kicking in with a purchase of just 5,000 points.

The deal is obviously worth a look if you need to top up your account.  It may also be worthwhile if considering a stay in a top tier Park Hyatt such as the ones in Paris or Sydney, where buying the points may be cheaper than paying cash.

At the top end, you are paying $1,320 for 77,000 points (55,000 plus a 22,000 bonus).  That works out at 1.71c – or 1.33p – per point.

Park Hyatt Mallorca is a great way to use this

The relatively new Park Hyatt resort in Mallorca is a location where buying points may make sense.   Prices for cash are still a little scary – rooms from Euro 484 (£430) in August 2019, or Euro 523 (£465) if you want a cancellable one.  A redemption at 20,000 points per night (£266) would be a great deal.

£266 per night for a 50 sq m room in a brand new 5-star resort in Mallorca in August is an outstanding deal.  The Park Hyatt is actually fairly cheap for cash at £465 per night because it is still new – the St Regis Mardavall is €800 (£700) per night for a cancellable room in the same week.

The Hyatt ‘buy points’ site is here.

OT, can you stack the Virgin Money/Virgin Atlantic CC vouchers? i.e. can you use a voucher for a 241 in economy and then use another voucher to upgrade to PE?

  • Chris says:

OT: Curve. Woke up this morning to see 2 notifications on my phone from curve saying declined transaction: Spotify (PayPal). I’ve got Spotify and pay for it using an amex card via PayPal but it’s never been near Curve. I’ve got an email from PayPal saying the transaction went through fine. Anyone experienced similar? Seems very odd. As soon as I opened the curve app the notifications disappeared and there’s nothing showing in the app

    • Chris says:

      Declined txnS don’t appear

Is your curve card on your PayPal account?

I had 2x declined ATM attempts at a Sainsbury’s in london – cloned card, by all accounts…

    • Anna says:

I had an odd day with Curve yesterday. I tried to pay £7.99 to the Brighton company, which has rejected it but the payment is showing on the Curve app. Then a short time later it wouldn’t let me withdraw cash.

      • Polly says:

My curve app wont show on my phone at all.. only know a payment has gone through, when l check the linked card account. I too have a Payment coming up, so hope it still works…

  • Nick G says:

OT – how long does it take for Amex back office to process manually any offer? I rung about the Hilton offer spending over the correct amount but it still hadn’t triggered an automated email. They said its going to the back office team to process it. Plus my 500 avios offer had not activated either and again no email once triggered. I’m finding any offers more miss than hit if activated these days never used to be like this.

  • Chris says:

    Yep

O/T help required. I’m spending the weekend in Manchester city centre and was looking for cheaper parking options as Manchester is pay parking everywhere from Mon-Sun 8am-8pm. Hotel wants £17 per day!! First time going there and would appreciate advice from someone with local knowledge. Thanks.
    Also, any Must-See’s in Manchester?

    • Anna says:

TBH, £17 per day is not extortionate for Manchester City centre! We pre-booked 8 hours at the NCP last time we went and that was £16! There are a few cheaper car parks which have basically been set up on waste ground which we’ve used, but I don’t know if they operate overnight or if they would be close to your hotel.

Must sees – depends what you like really!

    • Genghis says:

Not sure on parking but you’d have an excellent lunch at Fazenda or Albert Square Chop House

      • Tom Cook says:

Fazenda is aways a good lunch / dinner. Just avoid the salad bar…..

        • Scallder says:

Would also recommend San Carlo for excellent Italian food. They’ve also got some restaurants in London as well.

      • Mark says:

Charles street car park is the winner in Manchester, £2 all day sat and sunday. not too far from piccadilly. A lot of people don’t know they can pay to park there as it is university owned.

        • Anon says:

Thanks for everyone’s tips, Mark, I will try your great suggestion.

        • Mark says:

think if you are staying a friday night you have to pay a £10 overnight fee but that still works out pretty cheap, as there is no overnight fee on a sat-sun

    • MrHandBaggageOnly says:

The Q Park First Street is £16 for 24 hours and my preferred car park (next to Home and the Innside), but £17 to park at your hotel if it’s elsewhere in town isn’t a bad deal. The Science and Industry Museum is well worth a couple of hours of your time and Albert’s Schloss on Peter Street is, in my humble opinion, one of the best bars in the world (for food, drink, atmosphere and entertainment combined). Manchester is a great city, hope you enjoy it!

    • John says:

If your car is purely functional like mine, you can park for free 5 mins walk from Piccadilly station, off the A57(M), beyond where all the taxis queue…

    • DANIEL MACDONALD says:

      Charles Street car park

      £2 a day over weekend

    • Andy says:

The car park attached to Picadilly station is often pretty reasonable at weekends. Alternatively the wasteground sites that are being used as car pakrs near the Crowne Plaza are usually pretty cheap and only a short walk to the Arndale centre area & Northern Quarter.

  • Ian says:

A bit off topic, but Iberia related. If I can see award space checking via BA (which I can), will I be able to book it if I call Iberia? The award space do not show up via Iberia.com. It’s a Latam internal flight.

I can’t transfer the miles to BA because it’s part of the crazy 90k promotion earlier in the year.

    Thanks.

    • pauldb says:

You should be able to yes, but bear in mind you cannot book one way partner flights with Iberia (which may also explain it not appearing online).

      • Ian says:

Thanks. I thought about that, but then I tried return and it’s not showing up either. I have to call their dreadful lines 🙁

        • Prune says:

This is exactly what I’m thinking of doing. What was the result of the call?

      • Steve says:

I had the same issue with BA001, lots of availability on ba.com but only a couple of dates on iberia. Spoke to iberia CS who apparently could only see the same availability as the iberia website

        • Ian says:

@prune I haven’t yet called them. I’ve been waiting for them to refund the miles of a flight I cancelled last week. And the lines are driving everyone crazy, because they can’t seem to put you through the Iberia Plus dedicated department.

I was actually planning a Tallin redemption around May of next year so there goes them plans . I will look at Air Baltic i suppose ….

Very worthwhile visiting. Loved it, even the times I was there during the Soviet era.

    • Max says:

Fly to Helsinki and get the ferry over.

    • bsuije says:

When my OH and I went to Tallinn with Finnair a couple of years ago for a long w/e, we snuck in a day in Helsinki, which was nice. Think we flew out from London early on the Friday, straight to Tallinn (via Helsinki, as BA route wasn’t live yet & we were doing it as a TP run), spent Friday afternoon and the weekend in Tallinn and then took the 6am flight from Tallinn to Helsinki on Monday morning. Tbh that was a bit ambitious – most things in Helsinki didn’t open until later, so we just sat in a cafe for a while. We had luck with the weather, so it was nice pottering about Helsinki until our flight back to London in the evening. It’s a trip that I would gladly repeat!

    • John says:

You could also do an overnight cruise to/from Stockholm. I needed to be in Stockholm twice 3 days apart, one option was to go back to London for 2 nights, another option was to pay £100 per night for a decent standard of hotel.

Instead I paid £90 for 2 nights on the Tallink cruise ship, incl breakfast and my wife was able to join for free. You get about 7 hours in Tallinn which is enough to get a feel for the city, although I already spent 48 hours there in 2015 and this time there was something specific I needed to do.

For some reason if you don’t book the “day in Tallinn cruise” it becomes over £100 each way
