As we announced on Wednesday, we are pleased to say that we are holding our third Head for Points reader Christmas party on Tuesday 11th December.

We are taking over the The Glasshouse room at the Holiday Inn Camden Lock from 6.30pm to 8.30pm+.  This is situated just a few minutes walk from Camden Town, Camden Road and Chalk Farm tube and National Rail stations.

(EDIT: the first batch of tickets went in under a minute.  Well done to those who got one – hopefully some of you who missed out will be successful tomorrow.  Looking at the click numbers into Eventbrite it seems clear that we could sell out something even bigger.  We will look at this again before the Summer event, especially as large venues are easier to secure in June.  Rob)

The Glasshouse is a very light and airy space which worked well for our Summer party as you can see here:

We now have the first batch of raffle prizes to announce

Our traditional Christmas party raffle is already building up a nice head of steam.  Here are the prizes we had secured by 5pm last night, and more will be announced before the event:

  • REAL Transfers – return Mercedes transfer to Heathrow, Gatwick or London City from within the M25 or if outside the M25 £100 credit to use on trips either starting within the M25 or ending within the M25
  • ANA (All Nippon Airways) – exact prize to be confirmed!

All attendees will receive one raffle ticket.  It is not possible to buy extra tickets and they are not available to non-attendees.

For clarity, only ticket holders who are in the room when the raffle is drawn at 7.45pm will be eligible to win.

Back to the party details ….

The event runs from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

A full cash bar will be available at standard Camden prices, so £5ish for a beer.

We are still trying to finalise a sponsorship package which would get you your first drink free.  However, you should assume when you buy your ticket that this won’t happen. But it might.

The hotel will keep the bar open beyond 8.30pm if there is demand, and of course you have no shortage of other interesting places to eat and drink afterwards around the market and the wider Camden / Chalk Farm / Primrose Hill area.

How do I get my ticket?

Because we need to ensure that people who ask for tickets turn up, we are charging £10 per ticket.  This price includes VAT and covers our ticketing fees, venue costs and the hotel security fee (we are obliged to hire two security guards!).

We are selling the tickets in two parts:

The first 125 tickets will be sold at noon today (Friday)

The second 125 tickets will be sold at noon tomorrow (Saturday)

We are using Eventbrite again.  Eventbrite has an excellent mobile app, so even if you are not behind a computer at noon you should still be able to purchase.  Set up an account with your credit card data before you head out.

Click here for the tickets released at noon on Saturday

You can buy up to two tickets per person but please don’t be nervous about coming on your own.  Frequent flyers are a friendly bunch and always happy to share details of their recent trips and miles-earning tips.

I apologise in advance if you can’t get a ticket due to demand.  We are hoping to make future events even bigger in order to fit in more readers.

American Express is accepted by Eventbrite 🙂

We look forward to seeing you on the 11th December.

Annoying, again, gone by 12..saying not open yet! What’s with these folks on the zapper!!!

    • Julian says:

Polly I would suggest that its just luck who presses the button at exactly the right moment when the ticket sales open and that probably 1,000 people were trying to all get the tickets available at around that moment.

Normally I am one of the unlucky ones with any lottery of this kind but on this occasion I got lucky…….

      • Polly says:

I know, it’s just the speed some folks get in there..amazes me! l am not as techie as some of this lot, but it’s just great to exchange ideas etc. Hope you get to meet some of the guys and gals and enjoy the evening…

        • Julian says:

Given the pretty low odds (perhaps 1 in 5 or 10) of getting a ticket for those of us who try the normal way (i.e. just one computer session at the time of day stated, which is all I used and I didn’t even try using my Android phone simultaneously) the question has to be how does Genghis always manage to get a ticket every single time?

I suspect the answer is that due to his quite fanatical level of interest in HfP (I don’t think anyone else comes close to matching his level of regular posting on the site) he probably has sessions open on about 8 different devices at once and presses the Refresh button on the Eventbrite site on all of them in successive order till he strikes lucky.

The only other possible options are that his IT skills are good enough to hack the Eventbrite ticket ordering mechanism in some fashion or alternatively that there are a small number of HfP regulars who Rob actually finds it useful to have at these events and hence who don’t have to take their chances on getting a ticket via the normal highly competitive method that the rest of us are forced to use.

No doubt Genghis will be along shortly to explain how he always manages to get a ticket to the HfP party when they seem so very hard to come by.

In my case it was very lucky I got one as I quite often don’t get round to looking at HfP emails (the three each day) until the end of the day but I think the subject line in this one grabbed my attention. But it was sent at 6.05am and I didn’t read it till 11.35am so just lucky at the end of the day that I managed to read it in time and then was successful in refreshing the Eventbrite site at the right moment.

        • Genghis says:

Why would I scupper my own chances for the summer party by telling you how to do it?

        • Julian says:

So you possibly seem to admit that you used specialist IT techniques to ensure that you nabbed a ticket then?

Of course I realise that if you have 200 automated bot sessions all trying at once then the chances are that you will get a ticket but for most of us that’s beyond our IT capabilities and/or level of dedication to securing a ticket to the HfP Christmas Party…………..

Anyway I look forward to discussing all this with you further on December 11th, although I don’t suppose you look anything like your HfP Avatar?

  • Reeferman says:

Got one – and that was from sunny Spain. See you on 11th

  • Anne says:

Managed to get two tickets via the app at 12 on the dot, really chuffed as missed out last year. No tricks at all – just went for it as soon as the clock ticked over. Looking forward to meeting some of you there!

  • Mikeact says:

12.10 Tickets still not open ?

    • Jay says:

@Mikeact they went in about 30 secs.

    • Mikeact says:

Pretty bad, when their web site keeps showing Not Started, and I’ve been clicking on my phone and tablets since a couple of seconds to Noon.

      • Caleb says:

If you use the website you need to refresh the page. With the app, every time you press tickets it will refresh. So get it from the app tomorrow! Hope that helps.

  • Nathan Brandon-Bravo says:

If you loaded the page at 11:59, you need to refresh the page otherwise it’ll not give you the option to buy them.

  • Julian says:

Kept trying till they finally became live at around midday (which all depends on how accurate the Eventbrite clock is) and not being greedy or having a current Partner only booked one ticket (also if I took a friend, such as my recently made redundant BA IT friend (who had worked there for 30 years) who does have some but not an obsessive interest in this area, then I would have had to talk to them most of the time and not to my fellow HfP fanatics).

So it seems that finally I may get to meet some of my regular sparring partners in the Comments section of this site (yes Genghis, oldharryrocks and Shoestring I’m thinking of you if you either tried for or managed to get a ticket, or if not then better luck with tomorrow’s second batch).

I suppose if I had been more like some of you (those who I would probably define as the Amex Card rotating Introductory Bonus Tarts) that I would have booked two tickets and then have tried selling the other one on the door to the highest bidder. Although I’m pretty sure that if I had announced I was doing that then Rob would have cancelled both of the tickets……

But anyway I’m very much looking forward to finally meeting some of the rest of the HfP community on December 11th.

    • Jay says:

You bagged a tix and still managed to get a rant in about it. That takes some doing on a Friday 🙂

    • Rob says:

Everyone is welcome Julian, look forward to seeing you. Genghis is definitely there (he just messaged me) but I doubt Harry will be coaxed out of the West Country ….

      • Sundar says:

Looking forward to meeting Genghis this year then.

        • Genghis says:

See you there chaps. Julian – look forward to chatting. We may disagree on some things but this is only a hobby…

      • Shoestring says:

Bit far when I no longer have the chance to wrap it alongside a meeting in London etc!

Good luck tomorrow tranche #2 for those who missed out today.

  • Caleb says:

Got 1 :p See you all soon!

  • HarryKing says:
