My Lounge now open in Gatwick’s South Terminal as an alternative to the No1 Lounge

The brand new ‘My Lounge’ is now open in London Gatwick’s South Terminal, which is the one used by British Airways.

Based on the one in Gatwick North, you should expect ‘urban chic’ bordering on ‘hipster’, if ‘hipster’ is still a ‘thing’.

Annoyingly, I have no idea where ‘My Lounge’ is, except that it is located on the upper level along with all of the other lounges.  Apparently it has the only outside terrace at the airport:

Given that the ‘My Lounge’ in Gatwick North is cheap – I have seen it offered for as little as £12 via promos – I was surprised to see that Gatwick South will cost £30 on the door or £24 booked in advance.  Children are allowed at half price.

This is our review of My Lounge in Gatwick North to get you in the mood.  It is available via Priority Pass (free with Amex Platinum or buy one here) and Lounge Club (two free visits with the free Amex Gold) which should reduce the pressure on the main No1 Lounge.

You can find out more about My Lounge Gatwick South on their website here.  I will be Gatwick South in January and hope to take a look then, assuming there is no official media event.

OT: Shop Small, anyone had the shop small offer disappear under their Amex account, not showing and concerned the cash back won’t track now?

    • BJ says:

Not me, but some have reported that it comes and goes. I had something similar with the whsmith offer, my statement credit still appeared despite the offer disappearing, got the confirmation email too.

      • RussellH says:

Shop Small has not disappeared from any of mine; and the credits are arriving too (not just Shop Small). 2 x WH Smith, 1 x Wilko and Virgin Trains, 3 x Morrisons as well. Still have 2 Superdrug offers live, but their stuff is overpriced and the few gift cards they have are of no interest..

Oh, and there was a Metrolink tram at Manchester Airport this morning covered in Shop Small promotional livery. Pity it was not sporting a list of SS merchants!

    • Rob says:

It has gone for everyone but I am still getting emails.

      • Andy says:

Still showing for me on my SPG Amex account.

      • LewisB says:

Still showing on both my Amex Gold and BAPP

        • zark says:

          Don’t worry.
The shop small offer disappeared from my account, but still receiving the £5 credits a few days after each spend sometimes when an email received confirming spend and sometimes no email.
Net is that all of the credits are appearing, at least for me.

    • Mr Dee says:

      Thanks for the feedback

One Shangri La point per £2 spend on Blacklane…….. Ideal if youre a couple of hundred points short of Diamond in Golden Circle I suppose. A trip from the City to T5 should sort that!

  • MD says:

OT as Bits. Mentioned this in yesterday’s Bits but it was late at night and most people didn’t see it I guess.

Got stuck in the Eurostar chaos at Brussels last night for 4 hours. Combination of things it appears – a faulty TGV, dead body on the line near Lille and also a migrant in the tunnel!

Thank heavens for Amex platinum, I had the lounge at least. OK, bad things happen, but it was handled unbelievably badly. No information for hours. Only info from Twitter. Then they gradually cancelled the later trains. Ours (the 1856) disappeared from the board. Loads of people stuck between security and passport control, getting understandably angry.

Eventually they let some 2022 passengers rebook onto the 1856 and our train left, half empty! Farcical. They had a link to claim a hotel or a taxi home, requested a taxi, then as we arrived in London got a text saying they had booked me a hotel in Brussels 😂

So many other details of incompetence and so little space. Anyway, does anyone have any experience of claiming compensation from Eurostar? Any helpful tips would be hugely appreciated. TIA.

    • Vivian says:

Did they give you a leaflet with the information on how to claim compensation? It takes a while to get the money back (I think I had to nudge them a couple of times to get a status update) but it’s relatively straightforward.

I was stranded in Paris overnight in the second May bank holiday weekend in 2016 because of a “security incident” at Gare du Nord on Monday afternoon (some idiot decided to bring artillery shell with them onto the train). My train was second to last that evening but the every train was delayed the rest of that day due to evacuation of the station. By the time we’d cleared immigration and security it was past 10pm and they then announced that the tunnel shuts at midnight so the last three trains of the evening are cancelled (we wondered why they couldn’t have told us earlier). I immediately phoned up Accor and got a room at a Mercure nearby for the night. Returned to Gare du Nord the next day and Eurostar rebooked us to leave the same day. Kept the hotel receipt and the receipt for food the next morning and sent copies to Eurostar via their website.

      • MD says:

Thanks Vivian. Sounds encouraging. They didn’t give me a leaflet but did send me an email fairly promptly with a link to their website compensation details.

Didn’t need a hotel or food in the end, it was more the desire to get 50% of the ticket price back as compensation for wasting 5 hours.

  • Reddot says:

Rob, just so you know – the mobile view of your site on the iPhone is wonky. Flushing to the left and taking up only half of the screen real estate.

  • Shoestring says:

To get Gatwick South My Lounge for £16.80 you need to use code NO1GIFT

  • Mr. AC says:

OT: I have a “Spend 100 get 20 back” offer from Vente-Privée on my BAPP. I recall that the French version of that website had a “Buy Avios” offer with a reasonable rate. However, TOS on the offer say spend must be in pounds. I’m assuming buying Avios won’t trigger the offer since it would be billed in EUR, but maybe someone tried it and has facts?

  • Brian says:

OT: I have an offer on my Gold card for Melia – spend 400 pounds, get 100 back.

  • Maciek says:

OT – 250 Heathrow Rewards points for HEX tickets purchase. 3 transactions, only one lot of 250 points has posted. Has anybody been more lucky than me?

    • meta says:

I only had the usual points posting and no bonus on 2 transactions.

    • Maciek says:

@Rob, since T&C state one thing and you confirmed with the top guy at Heathrow Rewards that this applies to every purchase – what would be the best way of chasing these points? CS are just going to quote the T&C.
