    That’s the B/E Aerospace / Rockwell Collins Superdiamond, as expected. Qatar’s seat…

    Now let’s see what customisations BA has done. That seat does have a suite variant with a door that’s not yet in use by any airline.

      So funny you should say that. Flew back from Miami last Saturday, seats 53KJ on the A380 and we couldn’t get any sleep because despite ear plugs and noise cancelling headphones, we could hear them chatting, giggling, opening draws, banging doors… and I wondered if it was me being too difficult or them being too noisy!!!!!!!

        It’s not you. It’s them and it’s uniquely a Self entitlement thing – How dare you disturb their conversation with your sleep! I have experienced this from first class trains to air-planes in the UK.

        Nope its not you, had the same experience. In my case on overnight flights its usually not an issue, but on one flight it was due to a staff passenger talking non stop to the crew. It was resolved 🙂

      They are too busy trying to get the cabin to resemble a sauna… i wouldn’t be surprised if they open the oven to aid the heating process.

        Flew BA 210 upper deck and I kept waking up cause it was way too hot (and I for one am easily cold). Even with blankets aside, socks removed, joggers rolled up to my knees I was still miserable 🙁

          Hard to control temp on a 747. Good thread on FT about it. Newer planes better temp and humidity controls. No doubt 787 and 350 reduce jet lag through better cabin air.

    Yea defo the super diamond seat. Well that is good news! I cant see them installing a door though. But the seat alone would be a huge improvement.

    My money is actually on the Elements seat by Rockwell Collins. Runway Girl blog had some pics.

    It is essentially a Super Diamond with a door.

    BA would be the first carrier to install the seat which would mean that their claim in the investor day presentation to be introducing a world class new club world seat (or words along those lines) would hold true.

    Of course it would arguably mean that the new CW seat would be better than the F seat albeit they won’t be on the same aircraft for a while.

    More importantly, when will we see it installed, first routes etc, and will it be rear facing and 8 across like the current layout. For the record I’m in the minority who really like the current CW when travelling with others.

      Current CW certainly has a niche offering when traveling as 2 or more in the right seats, it’s sociable.

      It’s also pretty frustrating when you have a centre seat next to a stranger as per my most recent trip.

        This is partly why I was always a bit conflicted by CW. It stinks in SO many ways, but if you’re travelling with two tiny kids (and my kids are not that tiny any longer) there is NOTHING on the market more suitable than the middle block of a BA 777 / A380.

        Similarly, 2-4-2 has some value for couples who want to be together and by a window.

          Agree, I’m travelling with 3 friends to the rugby later this year and the middle 4 on a 777 will be far more sociable for us than anything else in any other first or business product on the market except q suite which I’ve not had the pleasure of trying.

          I don’t understand this. On our family trips we’ve always loved a row of single window seats (ideally 1A 2A 3A 4A) on QR’s 787 or A350.

          Why would anyone want a group of seats in middle of the “dorm” with no-one having a window?

            Because a 3-year old doesn’t care about a window but does want somewhere to play.

          because tiny kids don’t appreciate the window as much as being next to mum?

          tiny being under 7, I guess. I started booking columns of window seats (same as you) not long after that, as much as to stop them arguing as anything else

          nowadays – we are 5 – quite often we get 3 window seats and 3 in a row, that’s what they ask for so that’s what they get

            No, the middle block effectively gives you blocked-in floor space where you can put toys etc.

      As Rob has previously reposted the first planes will have it later this year – A350s will come with this pre installed – plus a couple of 777s on a phased upgrade plan

      747’s apparently won’t get the new seat.

      As the first batch of A350s won’t have F that automatically excludes routes like LHR-JFK

      The race is between who will get their new seats into passenger service – BA or VS/

          It’s not even the best over the Atlantic, let alone going east. AA & Delta are far better products. Qatar, Emirates and many others knock them out the park. Are much cheaper too

    This attempt by BA at some hype frankly pees me off! They are years behind everyone else and their usual artsy marketing pics of an armrest, a table release logo, some stitching and someone asleep is a touch patronising. (yes I have had a bad day!)

      +1 BA marketing never knowingly undersells but making a big thing of playing catch-up is pushing it even for them.

        Ironically they are NOT making a big push of this. There is no launch event. They are worried because it is good but your chances of getting it are virtually nil in 2019.
