British Airways Gold Guest List members can now take five guests into airport lounges

British Airways has announced that Gold Guest List members (see this article for how you get to become Gold Guest List) can permanently bring five guests into a lounge.

This has been trialled over recent school holiday periods and clearly went well.  It will not be a total free for all though:

all guests must be travelling on the same flight, but not necessarily the same booking

at busy periods you may be told to use Galleries Club instead of Galleries First

it does not allow Concorde Room access

it only applies at British Airways lounges

it only applies when flying on BA and not a partner airline

the full party can use the First Wing in Terminal 5 but at all other departure points, including Heathrow T3 and Gatwick, additional guests must use the standard security line

It remains to be seen how much with leads to increased overcrowding.  During school holidays this benefit was generally used to bring in children, but with it opened up to a ‘year round’ benefit we may find more business travellers bringing in a group of colleagues.

    O/t entirely and bits: I use hotels.com a lot for the free nights and their price match is quite good. I just had an email stating the free nights credits were being adjusted to the price matched values. I’m perfectly happy with that but they have taken off lots of night credits and say it’s to do with the price match too. Has anyone else had this happen and does it make any sense to them? To me it feels like they’ve averaged out the 10 nights for the value paid, but also just taken free night credits away from my account. The gold member team said it’s automatic and nothing can be done about it…

      That sounds really odd – surely your free night credit should be worth the average price of the 10 nights you paid for, whatever that price is? Unless there’s something in the Ts and Cs that a price match doesn’t count towards your free night I can’t understand why they would do this.

      A lot of hotels.com offers do not give Rewards credit. Is it in the small print that price match claims forfeit credit? Don’t believe that is the case.

        I’ve never used vouchers because I know they generally forfeit the nights but always tend to have them pricematched as everywhere else is generally cheaper. But now they’re wiping off free night credits to account for any refund as a result of a price match. Had 2 x 50 mins calls with agents today and they literally kept repeating the same wording Saying value of nights are being adjusted for any price matches. Each time I’m trying to argue that the value of nights isn’t the only thing being reduced. The actual night credits have disappeared.

        I’ve lost 6 night credits through this recent adjustment they’ve put in place and can’t get through to a single person who can help.

      Hi Zara, I had the same email too about the price being adjusted for reward night.

      I also had email about free night now that the ten had reached.

      I recently also had another email about having a free night. I hadn’t checked the nights in the mean time, so they may have taken them off and put them back on?

        I did check. They took off 14 night credits and put back on 8. So somewhere there’s 6 gone AWOL. I wouldn’t think they should reduce? I have quite a few actual free nights so the night credits coming off has reduced them.

        “Your nights have been adjusted to reflect a change you made on your booking within the past 12 months. The system will look at the last 12 months of refunds for all bookings and adjust the number of Hotels.com rewards and their values for refunds issued under a specific itinerary.

        I completely understand your query earlier and I brought up the issue to our Rewards Team and after further investigation, we needed to remove twelve (12) credits that were earned in the past year because refunds were process for the Price Guarantee requests.”

    Does anyone know if the melia gold rewards benefit of “3 discount vouchers for 20% off stays” can be transferable to a friend or family member or must it be booked in the name of the amex platinum card holder?

      I think it’s linked to your Melia Rewards Gold Membership. You can try copying the discount code that it populates in the Promo Code field and try and use it for booking from a different Melia Rewards Account.

    OT – IHG free night for spending £10k

    Will this just show up as a line on my account activity? How much later does it usually appear after the points have posted? – I’ve had the annual statement and March’s points have posted… keen to book the free night ASAP (and then considering gettin Mrs M the Premium card for next year too)

      It should show up on your account as a voucher when you login. they have posted with my points after my anniversary comes around.

      A link should appear in your IHG account along the lines of “free night status”. You need to click through that link to book with it.

        Yep IHG IT actually works quite well for this. Similarly if you cancel the free night booking whilst still within the original validity period it shows up as available again.

    Very OT.

    I’m doing my first ever mattress run this Friday to the Marriot Moxy Heathrow to take advantage of double points on my next much larger Marriott stay.

    What is general etiquette with this please? Checking in is not a prob, as very close to work, but I’m trying to avoid having to drive back Saturday morning to check out.

    Go there, maybe have a shower and then leave key card in room??

        With OLCI you still have to pick up keys or the room still has to be opened. Safe to do the physical check in and mess up the room etc

          Check in is the important thing to do physically. check out just leave the key in the room and go. Even the day before. if you really are worried you can phone up before the normal checkout time on the morning you are due to checkout, and tell them please check you out if they haven;t already done so as you have already left.

          Lots of people do this in reality. In fact it’s really annoying to have some hotel chains charge your card and slide a final bill under the door at 3am – really annoying if you were going to add something the morning before you check out. The presumption is in favour of you checking out when you were booked to check out unless you tell them you’re staying longer – provided the room is clearly unoccupied by your due checkout time;.

          If you mean Marriott Platinum (not Amex!), you have $10 daily credit to use at the hotel, per head.

      Yes, that’s good enough. Moxy’s make you pay at check-in anyway and will close off the bill there and then if you ask.

    ON TOPIC: Is Moscow included in Do&Co offer? Given the quality of travellers cohort on this route this would be logical. I remember that BA used ex-BMI A321 on some services and I even got upgraded once to a full-flat CW seat with good food but little value as it was a day flight

    Don’t feel sorry for BA, the fault is ALL theirs… If they’d not allowed their product to slip so far (whilst retaining premium fares) then they could launch a hard product fit for the 21st century with full fanfare.
    The reality as you say is for over 90% of passengers we’re not going to get sight of the new suite (which does look good) and we’ll still be dealing with dirty cabins, surly staff, broken IFE and seating… for a premium fare.
    But don’t take my word, almost £2BILLION profits up from £1.5billion last year says it all (Whilst they are still gouging passengers for everything inc. water on short/mid haul.
