  OT: Looks like United is another airline moving away from a fixed award travel chart and moving to revenue-based awards instead (similar to Delta, where on popular dates a one-way from the US to Europe is often priced at 280,000 miles – remember those are roughly similar in value to Avios and transferred from Amex MR points at 1:1 same as Avios or VS miles):

  “We’re removing our award chart and introducing a broader range of award prices. Here’s what you need to know:

  For flights on or after November 15, 2019, we’ll no longer publish an award chart listing the set amount of miles needed for each flight.

  ■
  Air awards to U.S. and Canadian destinations that are 10,000 to 12,500 miles today may be available for less moving forward. You might have already noticed these lower award prices, and you’ll be able to get them right away.

  ■
  Other air award prices may be higher than what you see today, especially if you’re traveling at popular times. This will be effective immediately for travel on or after November 15.

  ■

    I believe this is only for United and not partners at this time. The excursionist perk with partners is useful but annoyingly they’re not an Amex transfer partner.

  OT as no bits today but page 6 of The Sunday Times business section had an almost full page interview with Shai Weiss, Virgin Atlantic CEO. Certain bits I found of interest about the revamped cabins on the A350.

  1. Upper class now has forward facing suites and the bar has been replaced by an eight seat lounge which doubles as a lobby style entrance for all passengers.

  2. There are bigger seats and large television screens in the expanded premium cabin.

  3. 36 of the 335 economy seats will have a 34 inch legroom (guessing similar to Delight currently).

  Other bits:

  4. Virgin and it’s partners are investing £100m “to take Flybe to the next level as we rebrand it”.

  5. A return to Tokyo and Mumbai is under discussion, as is a route to Beijing.

  6. Virgin will be reporting a loss when they announce their results this week but not as big as the £28m loss in 2017. He expects to break even next year and be profitable again by 2021, provided there is an orderly Brexit.

  7. Flybe will be rebranded as “Virgin ‘Something’. We have not made up our mind.”

  8. The AF/KLM tie up will help get Virgin profitable again.

  9. He believes the 3rd runway at Heathrow will go ahead and that it will give Virgin the chance “to take on BA and become the most-loved travel company”.

      I think there’s a decent market for Newquay-our place in the sun, but unfortunately I don’t run an airline 🙂
