Amazing €999 (£873) Iberia business class fare to Cancun and Mexico City

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Iberia has launched an amazing €999 Business Class fare between Madrid and Cancun or Mexico City.

It isn’t clear why this offer is running – I can’t see any advertising for it – which means we have no idea how long this deal will last.  The fare does not show on ITA Matrix so I cannot extract the fare rules.

We published this article on Monday afternoon. There is a chance the fare is gone if you are reading this on Tuesday

It IS valid over Christmas at this price.

Remember that Iberia flights earn British Airways tier points and Avios.

Here is an example for August, click to enlarge:

Iberia deal to Mexico

Cancun, with a connection on Interjet in Economy, is just £852.

If you doing this for the BA tier points, you might want to start in Seville, Bilbao, Palma, Valencia or Santander via Madrid (Barcelona does not work).  This is assuming that Air Nostrum connections with an Iberia flight number earn tier points in BA Executive Club which I cannot guarantee.

Such a trip will earn 280 tier points return in British Airways Executive Club, or 320 if you start in Seville or Bilbao.  Spanish domestic flights are only 20 tier points each way in Business.

Iberia Mexico City business class deal

The aircraft is an Airbus A340.  This does not get the latest business class seat used on the Iberia A350 which I reviewed here.  However, I reviewed the similar Iberia A330 seat a couple of years ago and it is still very good.  It is fully flat and a 1-2-1 configuration.

If you don’t have a credit card with 0% foreign exchange fees, your best option for paying is American Express Preferred Rewards Gold which offers triple points – 3 per £1 – when you book flight tickets in a foreign currency.  This is because the transaction triggers the ‘double points for airline spend’ and the ‘double points for foreign spend’ bonuses.

Click here to visit the booking page on iberia.com and see what you can find.  For well under £900 return, plus the cost of getting to Madrid and back, you can’t go wrong.

If you’d prefer not to pay, of course, our detailed guide on how to redeem Avios on Iberia is here – it is well worth a look as there are many ‘sweet spots’ and taxes are low.

  • Roberto says:

Plenty of good quality cheap hotels with shuttle bus near Madrid for anybody considering doing this trip. I fly IB often and whist the crew are not as engaging as Ba their long haul flights are very good with direct aisle access from every seat , good food and great wines.

I try not to pick row 1 on a night flight as there is too much noise/light right up the front. Remember to try the Tio Pepe before your meal and the XO brandy afterwards to get the full spanish experiance. They also have good decaf coffee onboard if thats your poison on choice.

  • Kenny says:

I suspect this is an error fare.. tried searching just now and none of any business class seats are available, up until 2020… yikes!

    • Renaud says:

I can still see some availability in August, which is the date for which we booked our MAD-CUN seats a bit earlier for £801 each!

    • Rob says:

€999 is an odd figure for an error fare …

  • Paul says:

Booked CUN out, MEX back for family of 5 during october half term. Will go cancun for a week and then mex f1 gp.. flights 4.1k.. bargain!

    • Shoestring says:

Could have been worse, you might have opted for an open jaw coming back from Gustavo Vargas

  • MIssedTheBoat says:

….the deal is DEAD now! Just when I got my credit card out to book MEX in Nov… ;-(

    • Shoestring says:

any particular reason you don’t subscribe to daily emails from HfP?

      • MIssedTheBoat says:

How could I not be subscribed to HFP! Surely I do, just couldn’t commit to particular dates for a few days and then the deal was dead! Oh well…seems like surviving so far 😉
