Sneaky airport parking discount deals with JustPark.com

JustPark.com is a long-established but often overlooked website which people use to rent out their driveway to visitors for less than the cost of a standard parking space in the area.

As the site has evolved, there are various businesses – including some hotels – who also rent out their car parking spaces via JustPark. Many of these are near UK airports which makes them an interesting option for HfP readers.

Let’s imagine that I am looking for 7 days parking at Heathrow from 10th to 17th August.

JustPark has various private driveways to rent from £34 – an exceptional price for a week of parking.  These houses are within the Heathrow ‘free bus travel’ zone so you won’t have to pay to jump on a bus to the terminal.

However, the cheapest option – at just £32.50 for the week –  is the London Heathrow Marriott hotel on Bath Road.

For comparison, I had a look at the official Heathrow Airport car parks for Terminal 5 for the same period in August.  They wanted a minimum of £78 for the Good to Go ‘Drop and Ride’ Terminal 5 car park, and up to £119 for the short stay Terminal 5 car park.  The ‘pod parking’ car park is £116.

JustPark has similar deals across the UK, not just at airports, and is worth bearing in mind next time you travel.

You may even be able to use it to avoid rip-off hotel car parking charges.  For example, the London Heathrow Marriott at Heathrow charges £15 per day for parking if you are staying at the hotel – but, as I showed above, JustPark has it for under £5 per day.

JustPark screwed it up last week for many of their space-owners. I’ve rented a driveway out for a couple of years, and offered a free lift to/from the airport which has gone well for me, for those who park, and for JustPark who took about a quarter in fees.
Last week, for some unknown reason, they removed the ability for people to contact me with questions prior to booking (so they can’t check if the free transfer is available), made them book for a min of 7 days (most of ours were shorter than that) and crucially for the passengers, doesn’t allow them to book now with less than 48 hours notice – it’s the last minute bookings that people save the most on because the airport official parking costs are sky-high at short notice.
JustPark claim that this is to ‘help me maximise revenue’ from my space, and aren’t budging, so my only option was to de-list.
Just a warning for anyone using it, you might not be able to make the booking you wanted to!

      Have you considered ParkOnMyDrive.com instead?

    • Peter K says:

Wow, that’s naff. I’ve only ever booked for less than 7 days on their site.

      • Peter K says:

Just checked and you can get driveways for only a day. Plus this is in the help centre:

You can use the messaging system on JustPark to find out more about a space before booking:

        1. From the search results, click on the listing you’re interested in.
        2. To the right of the the page you’ll find a blue button labelled ‘Ask Person X a question’.
        3. We’ll ask you to enter some details about the potential booking, but don’t worry! This doesn’t commit you to anything.
        4. We’ll let you know by email when the space owner responds.
        5. Once you’ve booked a space, we send you the space owner’s phone number in your booking confirmation email. This is the easiest and quickest way to ask a specific question about your booking.

I’ve just looked and that seems to be gone now

          • Tom1 says:

I can still see that text on the help system and I can still make bookings for a single day. What am I missing?

    • Jovanna says:

What’s with all the speed cameras that have sprung up recently around the perimeter road? I think there’s one every few hundred yards. I’ve never seen so many mini-cabs driving at 28 mph!

  • Choons says:

Not really JustPark but parking related – I’ve got a short trip from Stansted booked – fly on a Friday, back on a Saturday – but have struggled to find any parking under 55 quid. Does anyone have any tips here?

    • Rooster says:

Try a nearby hotel for parking or just. Park?

      • Rooster says:

Just checked just park and its under £20 for Fri-Sat

        • Choons says:

Cool, thanks for that – JustPark seems to suit me JustFine, cheers

    • Qwerty Bertie says:

A couple of miles away from the airport is a well-heeled little place I know called Takely. It has free parking in several locations.

I previously raised this general strategy on here, ie park free & minicab, and it did not go down well. The general consensus was that it is considered too risky. However, in your specific case, where the trip is only 24 to 36 hours, and presumably you have only one item of hand luggage not likely to draw hostile attention, it might be less controversial.

      • Chrisasaurus says:

£1.50 per hour worrying about the car (less minicab costs) doesn’t equate to good value in my eyes…

    • Memesweeper says:

JustPark in Bishops Stortford and train/bus/cab it in. Avoid the amazing ripoff that is the airport taxi firm — Associated in Stortford are fine.

      • Choons says:

thanks – and thanks for the other person’s reply, saves me a decent chunk

  • stevenhp1987 says:

I’ve used the Marriott parking a few times in the past. Only during summer or over Christmas.

Recently the difference between that and long stay is negligible outside of those times. Sometimes long stay is cheaper! Of course your example is in the middle of summer so you’ll save ~£70 compared to long stay.

Unless it’s summer or Christmas, the extra hassle of catching a public bus to potentially save a couple of quid, isn’t worth the hassle.

    • Rooster says:

Yes the Marriott can be a lot more than £32 for a week during some periods

      • TGLoyalty says:

I think the message here is check just park as there can be deals. Not necessarily the Marriott being the place to park.

I’ve just found a cracking deal outside a hotel I want to use for a night before a flight and then can come back to with no hassle as it’s an afternoon landing.

  • luckyjim says:

Does anyone know what is happening at Good to Go Parking? Their Meet and Greet and other services are ‘no longer bookable’. Looks like these services have been withdrawn but why are they still listed?

    • Rooster says:

Drop & Ride All terminals is still working but it doesn’t work if you enter certain timings

    • Rob says:

Not sure but, yes, they seem to have effectively shut it. Cannibalisation was probably an issue – they were livid when we first covered them and said they use the official car parks.

    • Mikeact says:

Wish I knew…the Gatwick site has revamped their ‘approved’ list. Next week, we drive in the short term, take ticket, drive in, couple of levels up, hand over keys and car and the short walk over to Departures..remember doing it a couple of years back and it was fine.

    • luckyjim says:

It’s a shame as there aren’t any other valet services I’d trust with my car. That hotel on bath road looks pretty tempting though, even factoring in an uber back and forth.

  • Andy says:

Ive been using a guy from just park for years when it used to be parkatmyhouse. Only made the one booking through them and now have his phone number. He has full insurance and does this full time. Picks the car up at which ever terminal we are using and brings it back to us when we land. Charges me £4.50 a day.

    • N says:

Intrigued by this… how do you know he’s insured? who is he? is he just a dude with a mobile phone?

not taking the mickey, just interested!

      • Shoestring says:

all good until he prangs your Bugatti – totalled and the insurance was a lie

        • Shoestring says:

I can’t stop writing in Jezza Clarkson mode, I’ll get over it

  • Shoestring says:

    in about 10 years!

  • signol says:

Rob, you may want to list a JustPark link on your affiliate page – they pay a few £ credit for referrals…

  • Crafty says:

Well beyond driveways and hotels now. The last two general, paid for car parks I’ve used have been listed on Just Park by the official business running it (NCP or equivalent) and seemed to be cheaper to book through there than via their own website.
