Radisson Rewards is adding a Las Vegas hotel redemption option, Treasure Island

Radisson Rewards is adding a Las Vegas redemption option.

Las Vegas used to be, surprisingly, a very difficult place to use your hotel loyalty points with most of the ‘strip’ hotels not carrying international brands.  And, let’s be honest, if you want a proper Las Vegas experience you need to be on the ‘strip’.

In recent years all this has changed.  Hyatt has partnered with MGM, which lets you earn and burn at hotels including Bellagio.  IHG Rewards Club has partnered with the Venetian and Palazzo which are part of the ‘InterContinental Alliance’ sub-brand.  Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria recently took over the Mandarin OrientalThe Cosmopolitan is part of Marriott’s Autograph collection.

Radisson Rewards is now joining the party.  The Treasure Island casino hotel is rebranding as Treasure Island – TI Hotel & Casino, a Radisson Hotel.

The hotel will be bookable for cash via the Radisson website later this year and will join Radisson Rewards early in 2020.

Of course, you need to remember one thing about Las Vegas redemptions.  Cash rates vary wildly, with weekend rates usually being substantially higher than weekdays, assuming there are no major conventions on.  If you are visiting midweek – which is what I recommend – cash may be a better deal.

PS.  Slightly shockingly, because of what I said above, an IHG press release this week said that The Venetian in Las Vegas is the most popular IHG Rewards Club redemption.  Taking Tuesday 8th October as a random example, however, it is $220 including taxes or 70,000 points.  This is a terrible deal given my standard 0.4p per point IHG valuation.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

    OT

If I book 2 x rooms at a Hilton as a gold, will both rooms get gold benefits (ie. room upgrade + free brekkie) Would be for 4 people

    Thanks

    • Yuff says:

      👍🏻

    • Brian says:

Probably depends on the hotel. In practice, I think it usually happens, but when I emailed Hilton Budapest and asked them this, because I wanted something in writing before booking, they said no – only my room would get the status benefits.

    • MrHandBaggageOnly says:

We stayed at the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice last Autumn. Our friend who is Hilton Gold booked their room and ours so we’d all get the benefits. However, when we checked in (all together) it was made clear that the gold benefits would only be applied to our friend as he was the Gold member. So no free breakfast or room upgrade for us. 🙁

    • n_g says:

I believe the rules state that only one room will get benefits but hotels often deviate from the rules.

I’m just back from Hilton KL where one room got upgraded to Executive level/lounge and the other just got free breakfast, water, Internet etc.

Want to see why points can work in Las Vegas. The CES convention is in January: check room rates and point values then (Venetian starts at $1000/night for example)…

If BA strike goes ahead and my honeymoon F to SCL flight is cancelled, can I get rerouted via another carrier? AF fly to SCL in F, for example.

    • ChrisC says:

      Virtually zero chance to AF

They will rebook you onto other OW partners even with connections so American / Iberia / LATAM before even thinking about anyone else.

  • JamesR says:

With regards to the BA talks, and BA giving in to pressure, how might this affect customers? Can we now see price rises?. perhaps no sale fares for a long while? Maybe devaluation?

    • Doug M says:

No direct relationship between costs and what airline charges.

      • Rob says:

Correct. RevMan at BA is concerned with just one thing – setting the highest possible price which still ensures a full aircraft, based on competitor activity.

The cost base is irrelevant except to the extent RevMan knows people will pay a premium for BA, which they factor in.

    • ChrisC says:

There will be a massive sale once the pilots disput issorted and to make us forget that was even a possibility as well as the IT meltdown!

Long term – little effect. As said fares are more about what the market is prepared to pay not the cost of the actual flights.

Just seen in my IHG app there’s is a birthday bonus if I register for the offer.

Click the link and it asks for a promo code, Which they haven’t given me!

And a question. I’ve met all 5 of my accelerate targets and the individual target points posted as I achieved them but my bonus for completing them all hasn’t.

Is there a time lag for these to post – end of the month when the promo ends or should I chase them now?

    • Sandra says:

In my experience the completion bonus has usually credited after the end of the promo but you still have to allow about 3 weeks from the end of the promo before querying it if it hasn’t posted – not completed the last few because after a particularly big year a couple of years ago with a lot of UK and US stays where we racked up a pile of points they made the Accelerate target totally ridiculous to achieve!
Birthday bonus has credited without any code but take a screen shot just in case and if you don’t receive it email a missing points query and attach it telling them they offered x number of bonus points but you didn’t get a code on your birthday to claim them, most likely you will get the credit.

      • ChrisC says:

        Thanks that’s good to know!

Re the birthday bonus would that still apply to a booking made before the offer appeared?

I have a stay in Amsterdam starting on my Birthday

        • Sandra says:

Not sure because any birthday bonus I have been given has been a straightforward points award and not dependent on a booking. If it doesn’t show and you query it politely they’ll most likely give you the bonus anyway (in my experience but with Spire/Ambassador status).

  • Tariq says:

Redeemed at the Venetian 4 years ago and sure it was 50k Points then and found it good value. Not sure it’d be worth it at 70k but depends what cash price is like, especially weekends.

  • Matt B says:

OT – flying from Gatwick in CE this week, but want a half decent meal which we wont get in lounge or onboard . Can I still use my 2 free Lounge club visits from amex gold to get 2x£15 at Grain store?

    • Matt B says:

lounge club website says “Only 1 card per visit per Cardholder will be accepted and at point of registration.” – really cant get my head around what that means if i want to use my 2 free passes

      • Lady London says:

I think another poster said their partner would be joining them shortly.

        • Matt B says:

I meant can I use my card and its 2 passes for both of us?

          • Alex M says:

You won’t have any problems from grainstore – they are very accommodating. Re the rules – I think you will be fine.

    • Jason says:

Grain store fine used 2 cards for £60 in total last week

  • Clive says:

If heading to Vegas there are some excellent dining and show deals usually available on the Travelzoo US website which are worth investigating
