IHG Rewards Club, the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc, has launched its new Autumn promotion.

It is another version of the long-running Accelerate offer, and for the second time in a row it is called “Make Every Stay Count”.

You can find out your targets, and register, on the IHG website here.

It is valid for stays between 1st September and 31st December.

The list of targets is shorter than we have seen in the past.  I got just four:

25,200 bonus points for staying at four different brands

4,500 bonus points for booking one ‘points and cash’ redemption

2,800 bonus points for staying at three different hotels

8,000 bonus points for four stays using the corporate rate of the company I haven’t worked at for nine years and which very few hotels accept

Since I would have to trigger the 2,800 ‘three hotels’ bonus in order to trigger the ‘four brands’ bonus, I will be getting 28,000 bonus points for four staysI value IHG Rewards Club points at 0.4p so that is a bonus worth £112.  If those four stays are just one night each, that is an extra reward of £28 per night.  Not bad.

I also looked at my wife’s account.  Once I had registered my wife, she got the following targets which are even easier:

21,600 bonus points for staying at three different brands

2,800 bonus points for staying at two different hotels

4,000 bonus points for booking a stay of 4+ nights

Again, the first two would trigger together.  She would earn 24,400 bonus points, valued at £97.60, for just three one night stays.  This is £32.53 of bonus points per night plus the value of the base points from her stays.

(It looks like any family stays this Autumn will be booked as two rooms, one per account, rather than taking a suite!)

As usual with IHG promotions, existing stays will count and do not need to be rebooked.  The only exception in the past has been for any target you have which insists on booking via the IHG app.

Note that some people are getting a very weird offer of ‘1000 bonus points for one stay’ – and nothing more.  This seems to be an IHG IT issue and not actually your final selection.  If you have this, I would continue to check online over the next few days and see if it changes.

IHG Rewards Club Accelerate Make Every Stay Count bonus points promotion

Conclusion

The new IHG Rewards Club promotion is good, at least for us.  Given that it covers a four month period, I would go so far as to say it is generous.  Given the proliferation of IHG brands these days, hitting three different ones is fairly straightforward.  Hitting four is a bit trickier, but let’s see.

We don’t yet know what Hilton Honors or Marriott Bonvoy will be offering for the Autumn, of course, although we will find out in the next couple of weeks.

I strongly recommend signing up now given that the new IHG promotion is valid for stays from 1st Sepember.  Even if you have no stays planned I would still register now as 31st December is a long way away and a lot can change.

Note that there is a deadline for registration of 18th October which is not something I like to see – why should someone who unexpectedly finds themself in an IHG property in November or December lose out?

You can register for the new IHG Accelerate promotion here.

  • Robb says:

    Mine are:
    14 400 3 brands
    8 400 2 x Crowne Plazas
    4 000 1 x 4 night stay
    13 400 achievement bonus

These are identical to the present promotion apart from the ‘points and cash’ target has been dropped and an ‘achievement bonus’ has been added. However, they don’t normally repeat targets I’ve achieved (top two).

  • Kathy says:

I may have hit the jackpot this time around, if i’m reading mine right!

Stay at 2 brands and get 12,000 bonus points.
Stay at 2 IHG® hotel(s) and earn 2,800 bonus points
Earn 6,600 bonus points when you book 2 Bonus Points Package stay(s) and get to your next reward faster
Complete 3 of the 3 offers and earn (an additional) 10,700 bonus points

Correct me if i’m wrong – but it looks like I could book 2 one-night bonus point package stays at different brands to hit all these?

I actually have a trip to Hong Kong coming up in Nov (assuming it hasn’t imploded by then), so I could very easily split that between 2 IHG hotels. But it’s mattress run territory if all I need is two 1 night stays.

    • BJ says:

      Correct 🙂

Hotel prices in HK are crashing. One night in HIX Soho (convenient for airport bus stop that misses most of the traffic jams so could work well for rush hour arrivals/departures) will probably be very cheap and the other in better hotel of your choice.

      • Kathy says:

🙂 I was thinking of maybe spending a night in Macau anyway, so one night at the Holiday Inn there could work out nicely.

        • BJ says:

Despite some comments on here in the past I think Macau is a very pleasant place to visit for a day or two, and if required you can go to/from there directly to/from the airport.

    • Rich says:

Don’t forget the ‘bonus on your bonus’ promotion, to double your bonus points too! Book by 4 Sep, stay by 4 Oct. No good for your HK trip but perhaps if you do a MR.

      https://headforpoints.com/2019/08/10/ihg-offering-a-bonus-on-bonus-points/

      • BJ says:

Thanks Rich, forgot about that, I don’t need them this time but I’ll go register and use them anyway. It’ll be a cherry on the top 🙂

  • sididdly says:

I got the “points and cash” booking to receive 4500 points. I can confirm from the last promo that booking and cancelling triggers the bonus so this can be used as a ‘virtual mattress run’ to generate points. An example, make a booking at a 35000 point hotel for 30000 points plus £25. Then cancel the booking and receive 35000 back in your account plus the 4500 bonus. Outcome is ‘buying’ 9500 points for £25 (that is the cheapest differential I have found but there maybe cheaper out there…..certainly plenty dearer).

    • Lyn says:

No it doesn’t necessarily trigger the bonus

My OH had a genuine cancellation a few days after booking. and did not get the bonus. My booking, which was not cancelled, triggered the bonus immediately.

  • Aston100 says:

I can only see the current accelerate offer that runs until end of August and which I am unlikely to complete.
Where do I need to be looking for the new one, or do I just not have it yet?

    • Aston100 says:

Actually nevermind, I just found it.

8,400 Stay at 2 Holiday Inn Express® hotel(s) and earn 8,400 bonus points.
8,400 Stay 2 weekend(s), including a Saturday night and another night, and earn 8,400 bonus points.
4,000 Earn 4,000 bonus points when you book 1 stay(s) of 4 or more consecutive nights.

As I have 3 HI Express bookings already made for the next couple of months, one of which is 5 nights, I’m presuming that is two out of those 3 targets automatically met (once I check out)?

  • Aston100 says:

So where it says (on my screen anyway) “Earn 20,800 total bonus points.
Complete all of your Accelerate offers and earn 20,800 total bonus points.”
Is this an additional 20,800 points on top of the 20,800 points that would have been earnt from completing my specific targets? i.e. you get a 100% bonus on top of the bonus? Or am I misreading?

    • John says:

No, if there is an extra bonus for completing all the offers it will say so explicitly.

  • Chris says:

Bit better for me this time. My summer promo was double points from the second stay. I had two stays during that time and the first one cost £26 and was purely to ensure that the other stay counted as the second one as it accrued just under 30000 points.

For the new one I have
    9 nights – 18k
    4 brands – 16.8k
    3 HI – 7.2k
    3 weekends – 7.2k
    1 P&C – 4.5k

I’ll probably manage that easily with the exception of the three weekends as all our weekend plans for the rest of the year are already sorted out with two Hilton and one Accor already booked up

  • Ft_OverTheHorizon says:

    Mine are nothing special:

16,800 Discover Our Brands – Stay at 4 brands and get 16,800 bonus points.
    8,400 Stay at Crowne Plaza® – Stay at 2 Crowne Plaza® hotel(s) and earn 8,400 bonus points.
7,200 Saturday Stays Bonus – Stay 3 weekend(s), including a Saturday night and another night, and earn 7,200 bonus points.
6,600 Earn More, Faster – Earn 6,600 bonus points when you book 3 Bonus Points Package stay(s) and get to your next reward faster.

    39k doesn’t exactly set my heart aflutter…

    • Lady London says:

Close to what i got exception only 8,000 for thé 4 brands.

Mine would take 9 nights Incl 4 of those nights having to be weekends at work when I wouldnt normally stay for same total points as you FT_. IHG also wants 3 bonus point packages giving me 6,000 so 2,000 each. Bonus packages now usually are no bargain and
      hard to find in UK/Europe.

I’ll pass. Time I followed BJ’s advice and dump the account.

  • Scott S says:

    Fairly easy for me.
    Earn 87000 points:

16800 for staying at 4 brands.
Generally stay at HI, HIX and the odd CP, so throwing a cheap Staybridge or whatever in can be done.

    8400 for 2 Crowne Plazas.

    7200 for 2 weekends.

    4500 for a points + cash booking.

    6600 for 2 X bonus points packages.

43500 bonus points for completing 5/5.
