  Another date that marks a reduction in points opportunities both earning and spending is 1st September when the luxurious Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel closes it’s doors for its first total refurbishment since being built. It is due to reopen next Summer, but we recall the slippage of the Lanesborough refurb more recently. The Rib Room restaurant is legendary for high end dining and very fine wines.
  As a mark of respect, and in memory of many happy nights and meals there, we are hosting a private Sunday lunch today in the Rib Room!

    Haven’t forgotten the Jumeirah Carlton Tower for “walking” my party of very senior Directors for lunch to a completely different venue and not asking us if we agreed up front. They just sprung it on the day. This was the second day’s lunch of a 2 day event that was booked including the lunches. The restaurant was key in our choosing that hotel for this event. Haven’t used them again since.

  OT Avios and Money question

  My flight options have each mile costing from 46p, 48p then onto 71p. In Robs examples on University Avios and Money his savings where going the other way round 98p 90p 76p per mile, so it made more sense to pay more cash but use less miles.

  In my case its the opposite. Should I buy Avios at 46p or keep more miles and pay more in cash (76p per mile)? Thanks

    I don’t think this is what you actually mean – I certainly hope you wouldn’t pay 46p per Avios! (Though if you’re getting that value FOR them, do let us know how).

      yep, sounds strange you are getting 0.46p offered as a cost to ‘buy’ Avios as it normally doesn’t go as low as that, 0.7p usually about as cheap as it gets

      check the math & your financial choices – but usually on Avios + Money, saving the Avios and paying cash instead at around 0.8p/ point or better makes pretty good sense unless you are swimming in cheap/ free Avios

  OT Hilton seem to have learned we don’t like promotions that only reward from the second stay. Their autumn promotion “Power Up” appears to earn from the first stay. Requires registration. Only double points though so won’t move the earth for me.

    On the topic of Hilton, I signed up for the 7500 bonus points thing on Friday afternoon, *after* checking out of the Doubletree Tower Bridge that morning, and the first 2500 posted yesterday morning. I also got 10k for the 10 stays in current promotion – an unexpected/forgotten bonus!
