  OT – HKG airport lounges with Amex plat. Are all plaza premium lounges accessible, including plaza premium first (dep) and wellness (arrivals) without additional payment? Are there any lounges you would recommend over these (e.g Amex lounge)? Arriving in J with BA. Thanks

  O/T BA multi-carrier award. My planned itinerary will be something like this, but not sure if it’ll be allowed, as one trip ends back in UK, and another one starts/ends in Finland. Could anyone confirm if this I s allowed?

    I am not an expert but think you’re backtracking if you try to put it on one ticket so not allowed.

    There’s a natural split into 2 tickets when you returned to MAN. After that it works, as a sep
    arate ticket. You can’t return to
    your point of origin(MAN) on a rtw and keep on going same ticket. Possible to do by using married segments that might actually do that but not by explicitly making the point of origin your destination.

    I think if you go out from MAN and return to HEL that works (even via MAN or LON but for MAN would have to be married segment to HEL not sure about if you can out LON and still continue to HEL but think possibly). I think you can build in Japan as a side trip on the outward or the return. Then you are not backtracking. Unsure how much you could use QR for that but but think you could still maybe team with CX/JAL.

    Hope I’ve understood what you’re trying to achieve

      Wondering if Japan to MAN via HEL then MAN to AKL via your route might work – it would satisfy OJ requirements but wouldnt get you to Japan in thé first place and you probably wont want to fly it in that order.

        Thanks LL. From reading around I think I can have one open jaw segment, so I think that I can add a MAN-HEL leg (for a little later in the year) and therefore have an itinerary like this, which comes to 34,895 miles.

          That was what i though you were trying to do and thats why i Saïd you cant backtrack unless you fool it a bit by using a married segment. Basically you’ve been out and back Est and you want to then go back East again same ticket. Fare rules wont allow you to start back again east same ticket.

          Unless you know some way of beating ticketing system such as dumpers would know. In your case that wouldnt help as you are going to have to talk to an agent at an airline to get this ticketed as it’s an award ticket. In the days of Dennis at BMI, whom i sadly came too late ro this hobby to encounter, you might have got it done. But I’m not aware of any current airline that has agents that would miss the issues with issuing your proposed séquence on one ticket.

          You could do it by going out West (via US or possible via South America / SCL on LAN or maybe use IB to go that way then from US West Coast (most likely) or SCL to AKL on LAN if you can find it. Then come back thé Eastern route bringing in Japan and prob you can squeeze QR in too. You could structure to start/end MAN HEL as you chose, that part can be achieved.
          However if you have to come back to EUR from NZ before you go East again, then out West back East or vice versa wont be enough on it’s own as you couldnt mix it with that extra return from NZ in the middle.

      Always been told award ticket can only use structures available for cash tickets.

      If you manage to book this itinerary in this séquence please post. If you can, include which agent you booked it with. I’ve always regrettés never having dealt with Dennis and any agent that books this has got my attention.

      I dont mind if you do a Na-Na-Na-Naaaaaaah-Na when you post i just want to know.

  O:T, Q: Does anyone have any experience in Iberia checking bags through? I’m flying HAV-MAD on IB Business class in February then a layover of about 3 hours then fly HBO with BA MAD-LHR. I’m considering paying for extra baggage for my outbound flight LHR-MAD to then have a night in Madrid then fly to Havana but not pay for extra baggage for the return if IB will check the bag through.
  I have one night booked at the new aloft Gran Via for the one night in Madrid. Cuba hotels not booked yet so I need to get a move on.
  Roberto, did you say you’re going to Cuba in February or January on IB?

  Aa advice – had 50% luck upgrading with miles on first AA trip this.month. flying out next month and will attempt same.but does anyone know any way of identifying the chances of a given flight being available for mileage upgrades? When I called after booking last time I was upgraded (25k AAmiles +some cash) on the inbound there and then, so theres presumably a bucket or some such that upgrades go into, like upgrade with avios requires award availability with ba?

  But I cant find it documented anywhere… anyone got a clue?

  OT has anyone successfully used their Lloyds upgrade voucher recently?

  Just called BA Executive Club who said the vouchers aren’t on their system and that I have to call Avios to redeem. They would then temporarily reopen the account, transfer the Avios across to them, redeem the voucher, and then close the account again?! Seems fairly long winded.
