UPDATE – APRIL 2024:  This article is now out of date, but don’t worry.  We produce a monthly summary of the top hotel bonus point offers – please click HERE or use the ‘Hotel Offers’ menu above.  Thank you.

Welcome to our regular round-up of the best hotel promotions currently running.

All of the information in this article can also be found on our ‘Hotel Promos’ page which contains details of all of the current offers, together with links to our major articles on each hotel scheme.  However, a positive response from readers – especially our 14,000 email subscribers – means I am now running this monthly article as a handy summary of what is going on.

If you’d rather not spend cash on your next stay, this article looks at how to use Avios points to book hotel rooms.

Where should you credit your stays in September?

This is what you have to choose from:

IHG‘s Accelerate, which started on 1st September, has personalised targets so it is impossible to tell if yours are worth doing or not.  You have until 31st December to achieve them.

Hilton‘s new Power Up offer is the easiest.  You get double base points per stay, until 5th January 2020, increasing to triple points if you still have – and pay with – the old Barclaycard Hilton Honors credit card.

Marriott‘s Endless Earning promotion is still running until 16th September, but registration is now closed.  You will earn 1,500 bonus Bonvoy points, which I value at £7.50, on all stays of 2+ nights.

Accor is offering 6,000 bonus points if you complete 3 x 2-night stays between 13th September and 19th January.  However, you need to make your bookings before 27th September.

The schemes to avoid if you are seeking bonus points at the moment are Radisson Rewards and World of Hyatt which are not offering any global promotions.

IHG Rewards Club current promotion

IHG (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, Indigo, Staybridge Suites etc)

IHG is running another version of its Accelerate promotion. It runs from 1st September to 31st December.

Everyone has personalised targets which, in general, are the least generous we have seen for a while.  This is my article on the offer.  You can register on the IHG site here.

Here is a typical set of targets for this round:

25,200 bonus points for staying at four different brands

4,500 bonus points for booking one ‘points and cash’ redemption

2,800 bonus points for staying at three different hotels

8,000 bonus points for four stays using the corporate rate of the company I haven’t worked at for nine years and which very few hotels accept!

Unusually, there was no additional bonus for me for completing all or most of the separate targets.

Take a look at what you’ve been offered.  You need to register for Acceleratethe link is here where you will also find your personalised targets.  The IHG home page is here.

Hilton (Hampton, Conrad, Waldorf-Astoria etc)

Hilton has an Autumn offer called ‘Power Up’.  You can register here.  Our full article on Power Up is here.

You will earn DOUBLE Hilton Honors base points for every stay between 9th September and 5th January.  If you pay with the old Hilton Honors Barclaycard, no longer available to new applicants, you will receive triple base points.

For most brands, you will earn 10 base points per $1 spent, plus an additional 10 promotional points plus any status bonus.

Given that I value a Hilton Honors point at around 0.33p, you are getting a good return on your spending here.  20 points per $1 is an 8.5% rebate and that is before you add in any status bonus.

You need to register in advance via the Hilton website hereExisting bookings count, there is no minimum stay rule and all Hilton Honors hotels are taking part.

Hilton is still status matching too.  If you have status with another hotel programme, Hilton will match you to Gold for 90 days with a stays target for getting Gold or Diamond until 2021 – I explain how to do get a Hilton status match in this article.

The Hilton booking page is here.

Le Club AccorHotels current special offers

Le Club AccorHotels

Le Club AccorHotels, which covers Novotel / Ibis / Mercure / M Gallery / Sofitel / Pullman / Raffles / Swissotel / Fairmont etc, is re-running its occasional promotion to earn 6,000 bonus points.  These would convert into 6,000 Avios or €120 of hotel credit, amongst other things.

The offer is a bit fiddly and restrictive.  To earn the full 6,000 bonus points you need to complete 3 x 2-night stays between 13th September and 19th January.

However, all bookings must be made by 27th September.

You receive 500 bonus points after your first 2+ nights stay, 2500 after your 2nd stay and 3000 after your third stay.

You MUST register in advance via this page of the Accor website.  Our article is here.

Current Marriott Bonvoy promotions

Marriott Bonvoy (Renaissance, The Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, Westin, W, Aloft, St Regis, Luxury Collection, Moxy etc)

Marriott Bonvoy is about to close its Summer promotion, Endless Earning.

It was not hugely generous, offering 1500 bonus points on cash stays of 2+ nights.  I value a Bonvoy point at 0.5p so this is equivalent to a £7.50 bonus on your 2+ nights.  The offer is valid for stays until 16th September.

Registration closed on 2nd September so it is too late to take part.  We don’t know what will replace this offer, if anything, from 17th September.

Our full article on Endless Earning is here.

Radisson Rewards (Radisson Blu, Park Inn, Park Plaza, Radisson Red)

Radisson Rewards is not running a global promotion at present.

World of Hyatt

World of Hyatt, which covers Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt, Hyatt Centric, Hyatt House, Hyatt Place, Hyatt Regency, Park Hyatt, Thompson and many other brands, is not running a global promotion at present.

And finally …..

If you booking a luxury hotel, remember that we can offer you exclusive additional benefits at Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula and similar hotels.  Click here for details of our luxury hotel booking service in association with Bon Vivant / Virtuoso.  Feedback from readers who have used this service so far has been excellent and we have booked almost £1m of rooms so far.

IHG accelerate Q3 for me is quite simply, stay once and earn 1,000 points. That is it.

I checked with IHG and they said this was correct and sorry I wasn’t eligible for anything better.

I’ve decided to dedicate preference to Hilton for the rest of 2019 as I have already hit status with IHG, so net-net I’ll be better off points wise with crediting my stays to Hilton properties.

    • Stephen C says:

Same here, so much for being Spire elite 🙁

      • tony says:

I think something has changed in terms of Accelerate. Maybe it wasn’t delivering what they wanted but my offer for this quarter is very weak too, and I’m not putting much at all IH’s way at the moment.

I have 8k for 2x 2 night weekend stays, 2.8k for staying in 2 brands and 6.6k for buying two bonus points stays – which I couldn’t even find on offer the last time I looked at an IHG hotel.

        • John says:

You don’t need to book a specially named “bonus package”, at basically every IHG hotel there is an option to add bonus points during the booking process, but you just need to find one with a reasonable price (like less than £5 for 1000) as some can be outrageously priced.

I don’t think anything has changed except the offers are getting generally weaker. Sometimes you get a good set of targets and sometimes you don’t. It has run for what, 10 times now, and I probably got good targets 5 times – the other 5 periods I simply used up the points I earned.

    • John says:

Why are you bothering to earn IHG status in the first place?

      • Lady London says:

The only reason i keep hoping Accelerate challenges will go back to at least relating slightly to my stay pattern, is that unlike say, Accor, IHG points costs for a stay are predictable.

        • Lady London says:

But I have lost patience with IHG after 4 ridiculously impossible sets of Accelerate targets. Those wanted huge numbers of stays for b***”‘” all points earned.

When I want to stay in a hotel now it’s Hilton, and when I need to it’s Accor.

  • Graeme says:

The Hilton promotion is for double/triple bonus points, not base points.

    • Brian W says:

“Double Points” means you will receive a bonus equal to the number of Base Points earned during a stay.

      From the terms. Same difference!

    • John says:

The double points are the bonus, and they are the number of base points, doubled.

  • TripRep says:

Word of warning with Hilton & Platinum Visa

Booked the Conrad Istanbul using the GBP rate on website (mobile app doesn’t do currency conversion or allow flexible date search)

Payment page shows Euros rather than GBP. I go online chat they confirm that I’ll be charged the GBP rate that was advertised with no exchange rate fees or credit card charges.

Check my Visa statement a week later, I’ve been charged in Turkish lira and paying equivalent of £5 more / night than the advertised GBP rate

Phoned Barclaycard Visa, they refund difference, said that I only need to show evidence (I have screenshots of the chat and the GBP rate) if the hotel queries it.

Wondered if anyone else had encountered similar?

    • Shoestring says:

5bobbill had it the other month

    • Andrew says:

The Website makes it absolutely clear that you will be charged in local currency and the Sterling equivalent is an indicative rate.

As soon as you select GBP, this warning box appears underneath your selection:-

“The currency conversion is for comparison only; your reservations will be booked in the local hotel currency displayed. Currency rates utilized in each conversion rely upon several different public sources from other parties without independent investigation or verification and should be used only as examples. Hilton does not, and cannot, verify the accuracy of any rate conversion examples.”

      • TripRep says:

Andrew – thanks for that honestly didn’t see it when I booked. And the agent also clearly misinformed me too.

      • TripRep says:

I know why I missed it now, it assumes/requires that you scroll down after selecting the currency from the combo box that happens to be located at the very bottom of the screen. Something you’re not going to do if the room you’re after is the first choice at the top of the list..

Poor User experience design on their behalf, should be a dialog box or state it on the payment page, which as I mentioned before actually shows euros, hence why I contacted the online chat.

So its also inconsistent there too as my card was charged in Turkish Lira

    • John says:

This is nothing new, basically every hotel in every country charges in their local currency, even if some hotels in Turkey advertise prices in euros. Maldives is the exception as the tourist islands operate in USD entirely.

No hotel will charge you in GBP (except through DCC, which definitely won’t be the GBP rate using Hilton’s currency converter)

  • Benylin says:

OT: Does Marriott allow you book reward bookings even if you don’t have the points right now? If so, when do you need to pay the points by?

    • Rob says:

Yes. However, under the new rules the price is not fixed so you are exposed if the hotel goes up in points price between the day you book and the day you get the points. I think you have until 14 days before arrival to earn them?

      • Freddy says:

Is this new rule enforced now or only after 14th sept? I.e if I book now will the points remain the same if there is any change

  • Graham Walsh says:

Does anyone know how to add a booking to your Hilton account that is upcoming? Corp travel agent booked it and want to add my Diamond number to it before check in.

    • Travel Strong says:

Quickest way is to just call the hotel, they will happily amend it.

    • AndyGWP says:

Twitter always works for me 👍🏻

      • Graham Walsh says:

        Thanks

        • Graham Walsh says:

          Ouch. This was the response

Thank you for reaching out to us, Graham. Regrettably, we are unable to process this request due to the booking method for your reservation. Please be advised that this particular hotel stay would not qualify for Hilton Honors stay credit or point accrual due to the booking being made through a third party. As well, any incidental charges incurred during your stay. Bookings completed through a third party are not eligible for Honors credit. When booking through a third party, these companies are considered your accommodations provider, regardless of hotel brand confirmed. Please be aware most rewards programs have similar policies concerning stay eligibility.

We consider the Honors program to be among the best rewards programs available based on the wide variety of benefits available to you. We certainly understand you have choices when choosing your hotel accommodations and value your loyalty and hope we can continue to be your primary choice for hotel accommodations. When time allows, please visit https://t.co/8MLSR7oZSY for Hilton Honors Terms and Conditions. Thank you. -Sarah

          • Lady London says:

            It’s a cut and paste.
I usually call the hotel and add my number anyway, in any program, even if I’m not expecting benefits. Just want the programme to see that stay even if they don’t reward it.

And the occasional hotel can be decent. Last one I did was overbooked and pretty sure that meant I wasn;t walked when I could have been based on no status unknown customer.

  • Bootlace says:

Since discovering HfP two years ago, I have become Hilton Diamond, Spire Ambassador, and Titanium Elite on Bonvoy so huge thanks to Rob and team for the info that has allowed me to achieve this.
I tend to use Hilton the most regularly, their promotions in my experience are usually the most straightforward. As regards IHG, I will complete, or get close to my accelerate target in one quarter and then the next quarter I don’t use them at all, and substitute with Marriott or Radisson,. So far, its worked for me, as my Accelerate targets have been fairly generous, but hey, who knows the vagaries of the hotel chains algorithms around loyalty!

    • BJ says:

Just curiou, which one do you feel has best-recognised your status? To date I love Hilton butam considering doing a Marriott challenge too. Spire has be little benefit to me last time or currently. Don’t really want to put effort into Marriott if their status recognition in Europe or Asia is lacklustre.

  • Mr. AC says:

Not sure about IHG, but e.g. Avios purchase from BA is actually via points.com which doesn’t have an airline MCC code.

  • RICHARD GREEN says:

i use hilton now and found it good value with the gold benefit,
