IHG Rewards Club (the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group) has just published its new list of heavily discounted PointBreaks redemptions.

You can book these hotels for stays until 31st January.

These hotels are bookable NOW via ihg.com. Popular hotels will use up their allocation of reduced price rooms quickly, so book soon if you are interested. As with all IHG Rewards Club reward nights, you can cancel without penalty at any time and get your points back.

This list is shorter than the previous one and, from a European point of view, weaker.  As always, however, if there are good hotels in places where you want to go then you’re onto a winner.

If you try to book one of these hotels on Tuesday morning for the period to 31st January and it is showing the full points price, this means that the hotel has sold out of its allocation of PointBreaks nights.

What are the PointBreaks highlights?

Not surprisingly the better deals are at the 15,000 points level.

The UK hotels are a bit of an odd mix, although Gatwick is there.  Crowne Plaza’s in Geneva and Istanbul are the pick of the European list.  Holiday Inn Dubai Festival City which we wrote about here is a good deal given it is peak tourist season.  InterContinental Johannesburg which we reviewed here is also on the list.

My pic of the 10,000 point redemptions is Holiday Inn London – Heathrow Bath Road.  Here is our review and it is pictured below.  It is a brand new hotel and impressive.

For once, there are some good options in Australia and New Zealand.  Japan is also well represented.

How to book a PointBreaks room

PointBreaks availability is limited so book ASAP if you are interested.

You can book via the IHG PointBreaks page here or via the standard booking page here.

You are able to book these hotels for dates up to 31st January.

If you are trying to book a reward night for a date up to 31st January and it is pricing at the full rate, the hotel has sold its allocation of PointBreaks nights.

You allowed a maximum of two bookings per individual hotel. Each booking can be for as many nights as you want. Remember that if you attempt to amend your booking later by dropping a night or two the whole booking may reprice at the full rate.

Wow. Worst set for some time.

  • Fraser says:

Limassol seems to be 15k via either normal or promo link. Wonder if it’s always that price anyway.
I can recommend both Hiroshima and Sandton hotels, they look good bargains but don’t coincide with my upcoming travel.

  • Gavin says:

The Crowne Plaza Sapporo coincides with my travel dates but doesn’t seem fantastic value. Its £79/night for my dates in mid-January, or 15,000 points here. So about 0.5p per point.

  • Nick says:

Las Colinas is nice if you have to be in the DFW area.

  • Russ says:

Booked Heathrow. Agree there doesn’t seem as much choice but nice they are running this more frequently.

    • Lady London says:

Heathrow is the one I would have considered booking (other than Indigo SEA).
However as IHG points do still have the ability to get you out of a hole, if you encounter sky high seasonal cash rates or rates for an event etc., I decided not even to risk 10K out of my tiny stash. It’s just too hard to earn IHG points now since Accelerate hit the skids.

      • Marcw says:

You can buy points quite cheaply TBH. 10k for 50USD

        • Lady London says:

Thanks marcw. At that price I would be looking to top off for a particularly stay mostly – but i get your point that this is useful to know if faced with peak pricing.

I feel that I have to comment as the Holiday Inn Leicester – Wigston is in my home town. If you are visiting Leicester (from the south of the country), then this is a very well located hotel for meetings/events in Leicester and south Leicestershire. It is located on a main road that connects the M1 and M69 to Leicester, has free parking, a decent gym, a Bella Italia on site, and a Sainsburys and Subway across the road. This hotel has been a Marriott and a Best Western in recent times, but it has probably not looked better since joining IHG. Not a bad choice if you have an event at the racecourse, or need a place to stay if you’re visiting Leicester (it’s probably about a fiver in an Uber from the city centre). If Rob pays me £20, I’ll do a full review haha.

    • Johnny5a says:

Thanks for this, i have a conference in Leicester soon at the Racecourse

  • Adam says:

Do you think there could be any problems if I book 1 night with cash and two nights (3 consecutive overall) with points for 4x promo? I know that was an issue for Hilton when revenue and award stays were mixed but what about IHG? Any datapoints appreciated.

    • Lady London says:

If you check the t’s and c’s on any promotion from IHG, IIRC you will always find that any stay paid all or partly with points, does not qualify for the promotion.

the only exception would be if you have a “points and cash” target for that specific promotion e.g. Accelerate.

    • Rooster says:

The only time non cash stays count are with the Free night vouchers and they only sometimes work

    • Lyn says:

Adam, I’m assuming you are asking if you will get qualifying points and whatever you are due for the 4x promotion for the 1 paid night? Even though it is combined with ponts nights in the same stay? If so, the answer is yes. The points nights obviously won’t count.

      • Lyn says:

Sorry I should clarify and say probably yes, since this is a new promotion and so possibly different rules apply.

So yes, you will regular points for the 1 paid night. And yes, combining paid and points nights in one “stay” has in my experience always resulted in the paid nights being eligible for accelerate promotions (such as weekend stays or number of brands) in the past. IHG treats them as consecutive stays, and even gives multiple sets of elite welcome points.

        • Adam says:

Thanks Lyn! Yes, correct I am concerned about that 1 paid night portion-segment only.

  • Colin MacKinnon says:

Jo’burg booked for two nights in jan at either end of a Vic Falls trip.
Had been thinking of staying in Pretoria given Jo’burg’s reputation, but good thing with points break is you can change your mind, so might still go to Pretoria or Cullinan for a night.

    • Clive says:

Sandton is a good place and safe. Also the surrounding suburbs are a quick Uber away with some great restaurants.

    • Genghis says:

Lol. Pretoria isn’t exactly a safe haven! I stayed at Sandton Towers a couple of weeks ago. Not too bad tbh. Upgrade to Club as SE AMB with free very average breakfast in lounge or restaurant.

    • Rob says:

Sandton is really a separate city to Jo’burg and a lot safer.
