It’s back (for some): earn Virgin Points in-store at Morrisons supermarkets

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Virgin Flying Club has brought back its partnership with Morrisons supermarkets.

You will earn points in Virgin Flying Club for every £1 you spend in-store at Morrisons.

Full details are here.

Virgin Atlantic

You need to log in to see how many Virgin Points you will earn.  The earning rate varies from person to person and you may see nothing at all.

For me:

For purchases under £30, I earn a flat 0.5 Virgin Points per £1

For £30+, I am earning 8 Virgin Points per £1

These rates are only guaranteed until 15th September and may drop to zero after that.

In theory, you cannot earn on:

“Cash Back, Tobacco, Fireworks, Saver Stamps, Postage Stamps, Gift Vouchers, Gift Cards, Infant formula/milk, Lottery Online Game, Instant Tickets, ‘Top-up’ Mobile Phone Cards, E Top-up, Photo Printing, Prescription Medicines or on transactions made within the Café, Dry Cleaning, Petrol Stations, Garden Centres and Pharmacy or outside of the UK.”

However, since gift card purchases are processed at standard tills, you may get the points.

This offer will double up with the current Morrisons cashback offer currently showing on many American Express and MBNA cards.  It may also be available on other credit card cashback reward schemes.

If you don’t collect Virgin Points …..

This offer is part of the Virgin Atlantic in-store shopping scheme.  To sign up, you need to register your credit and debit cards via the link above.   Make sure you register your partners cards as well if they are also likely to visit Morrisons.

If you don’t already have a Virgin Flying Club account, you may want to sign up purely to take advantage of this deal.  The launch of the Virgin Red app (register here) has brought a lot of smaller redemptions into the programme, including food and drink from Greggs from 200 Virgin Points.

PS.  I also have a generous offer of 8 Virgin Points per £1 spent on taxis booked via the Gett app.  This is only valid when paying with a Visa or Mastercard.  You may or may not have an Amex cashback deal for Gett which is better than this.

  • Memesweeper says:

I challenged a decline from Virgin following a large Morrison’s shop and was asked to produce the receipts showing no gift cards, fireworks etc. Consider it a substantial and lucky bonus if your miles are awarded.

  • Andrew says:

Note also with Gett: showing 15% off for me in my Amex account, but unfortunately no Morrisons there (but showing at 8 points/£1 in Virgin)

  • tical says:

not a primary airline for me but registered card on line when it first started. While i can see the point accrual in the shops away site, those point do not seem to be going across to Flying Club?

    • Rob says:

There is a verification period for refunds etc. They should appear in the end.

  • Lee says:

    What is airtime?

    • Kai says:

It is an app to earn cash rewards straight to your mobile bill when shopping with retailers like Boots, New Look, Just Eat, Argos, Primark, Greggs, Wilko, Halfords & many more! Simply link a card to start earning.

Nothing has tracked for me on purchases a week ago. (Airt, PAW, SA)

    • KBuffett says:

Did you purchase using Apple Pay (or similar), or physical card?

      • the_real_a says:

Physical card (curve). Normally tracks within 3 days

        • KBuffett says:

My purchases on Tuesday tracked yesterday/today on various portals. Airtime was yesterday. Nothing on Virgin yet.

        • TGLoyalty says:

Curve might be the problem it seems to be very hit and miss for these portals.

You didn’t have the Morrison’s offer on your actual credit card did you? Because that 100% won’t track when using curve.

        • Chrisasaurus says:

It has worked for me in the past but Airtime do explicitly say curve isn’t supported….

          • KBuffett says:

Could you please provide a link / quote for this?

          • CH says:

“Currently, we do not support PayPal, AMEX, or transactions made through Curve cards.”

            https://www.airtimerewards.co.uk/support/transactions/
            under “Have a missing transaction?”

          • The_real_a says:

Oh no. That’s an expensive mistake by me!

          • The Urbanite says:

I’ve had no problem with any of the portals tracking this time round and it’s my Curve card that’s linked to them.

I think that AR term means that if you link a payment card and pay with Curve linked to that payment card, the transaction won’t track.

          • Chrisasaurus says:

@the urbanite – yes that’s quite possibly true but still also precludes eg sending of a card statement if you needed to chase a tan on AR…

          • Char Char says:

To me it means that they mean the underlying card

          • KBuffett says:

Strange, Curve has worked for me, but I will not risk using it again.

  • thehornets says:

Anyone know a way to ‘cash out’ airtime without using it for phone bill credit?

  • mark2 says:

I have just opened a PAW account for my company, but the Morrison’s offer only seems to work online. Any suggestions for my error please?

    • Clubx says:

Buddy you are too late for the in store offer. Hopefully you will get it when it comes alive next time

    • Chrisasaurus says:

Anyone know the approximate complexity involved for the employer for PAW provision to staff?

      • Connor says:

Literally took me about 5 minutes. No complicated info or signup. Then you get given a link you can give out to employees to sign up with.

  • Rob says:

Yes, it’s gone if you didn’t save it at the time.
