World of Hyatt has launched its new Spring promotion.

It is another outing for the ‘Bonus Journeys’ offer which ran last Autumn.

Unfortunately, Hyatt still hasn’t got the message about making its promotions member-friendly:

Your first stay after registering doesn’t earn a bonus.  Your bonus only kicks in from your second stay after 15th February once you have registered.

Registration closes early, on 31st March.  Tough luck if you suddenly find yourself with a Hyatt stay between 31st March and the last day to earn the bonus on 15th May.

World of Hyatt

The first point is a problem for me as I am planning a pricey 3-night Hyatt stay in April but nothing before that.  You might be seeing a review of the Hyatt Place at Heathrow soon ….

Both of these factors make it less attractive to move stays to Hyatt this Spring.

‘Bonus Journeys’ runs from 15th February to 15th May.  You will earn:

double base points at all Hyatt branded hotels

double base points at all other hotels, eg Small Luxury Hotels of the World, which can be booked via the Hyatt website

an additional 1,500 bonus points per stay if you are a Hyatt credit card holder (not possible for UK residents) and stay over a Friday, Saturday or Sunday

Remember that:

you only receive the bonus from your 2nd stay after registration and after 15th February

you need to register before 31st March

you are capped at 100,000 bonus points, albeit you need to spend $20,000 to hit that

I value a World of Hyatt point at 1.1p.  You earn 5 base points per $1 so, doubling this and adjusting for the exchange rate, you’re getting about 12% of your spending back in points.  Status members will do even better due to the extra elite bonus.

You can register for Hyatt’s Spring 2020 ‘Bonus Journeys’ promotion here.

For comparison, you should also take a look at:

Hilton Honors offers 2,000 bonus points per stay plus an extra 10,000 per 10 nights – article here, register here (runs to 3rd May)

IHG Rewards Club’s ‘4x’ promotion – article here, register here (runs to 15th May, book by 15th April)

Radisson Rewards accumulator bonus – article here, register here (runs to 31st March)

Accor’s 6,000 bonus points offer for 3 x 2+ night stays – article here, register here (runs to 7th June, book by 6th March)

We still have nothing from Marriott Bonvoy ….

We will do a full article in the next couple of days comparing all of the new hotel promotions.

PS. If you’d rather not spend cash on your next stay, this article looks at how to use Avios points to book hotel rooms.

A laughably rubbish promotion – Hyatt have such a poor footprint and small programme they’re just not a chain I ever even consider staying at so they’ll need to a lot better with their promo to entice me across!

    • meta says:

They might have a rubbish footprint, but they are far superior brand to Hilton/Marriott/IHG in terms of service. None of other chains offer suite upgrades at almost every hotel at time of booking at reasonable cost points/cash (Marriott does it, but not all properties). Also saves the pain of having to argue about whether you are entitled to an upgrade or not. Their budget properties are also quite good.

In the same boat as Rob, have two stays in Japan and considering sending my partner to Hyatt Place Heathrow before then. How easy it is to get there on public transport?

      • Ianmac says:

Get the free bus from outside T5
(I can’t remember the bus number !! but takes about 5-10 minutes to get there)
The bus stops just outside the Hyatt Place (need to be ready with Google Maps to ring bell and get off at the right spot !! – or alert the bus driver)
Again, bus stop across the road, timetable of buses available

        • Lady London says:

Is this the one in Hayes? If Hyatt is calling that one Heathrow then it’s Ryanair-type place naming

  • Rob says:

Stays planned so works for me!

    • Peter K says:

And this is the issue. It rewards those who are already staying, but a casual stayer will either likely book via an OTA or go elsewhere.

  • StevieM says:

    Dammit!
Another bed run needed before our stay in Venice in a couple of weeks
Really wish they didn’t have these ‘first stay triggers the promotion’ offers. Really puts me off 🤯
The only Hyatt near me is Brum…… and THAT’S a Regency

    • TGLoyalty says:

Is it really worth the cost for 2x points? Must be one hell of a bill to justify a £100 hotel night you don’t need to do.
