Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Win 5,000 Heathrow Rewards points with ‘Green Points’ – virtually no entries so far

Heathrow Rewards has launched a new promotion to encourage you to reuse your clear plastic liquids bag.

There is a slight snag.  You can only take part if you are reusing an official Heathrow clear plastic liquids bag, which comes with a QR code printed on the front.  This means you need to get rid of your current bag, which is not the environmental message they want to send out.

At Terminal 5 – and ONLY at Terminal 5 – you should scan the QR code on your offical Heathrow liquids bag using your smartphone each time you use it.

Heathrow Rewards

Heathrow is donating 1p to Care International for every scanned bag.  If your bag is scanned three times before 31st March, you will be entered into a competition to win 5,000 Heathrow Rewards points.  These can be converted into 5,000 Avios or other airline miles, or a £50 Heathrow shopping voucher.

As you can see here:

….. the initiative has not taken off so far.  It is very possible that NO-ONE has yet scanned their bag three times.  If you are flying from Terminal 5 on three occasions by 31st March you should be in with a good chance of winning.

You’ll also be helping to boost the donation to Care International beyond the current total of 22p.

You can find full details of the Green Points initiative here (log-in required).

If you’re not a member of the scheme yet, you can find out how Heathrow Rewards works in this article.

OT: it’s been a while since I booked an RFS. Are they still cancelable for a single £?

    OT:
Is it worth buying Bonvoy points in the current sale and locking in properties at their current redemption rates, before the category increases on March 4th?

I’m considering buying some Bonvoy points and maybe Avios from Iberia to help hit the 4k spend on my partner’s Platinum for the upgrade bonus.

Transited through LHR T5 on Friday night – never saw any clear plastic bags with QR codes on them ??

    • Michele says:

Apparently the security staff are unaware of the promotion if you ask. What with that and making people have another plastic bag, which is probably not needed, this is a terrible green initiative!

OT: If I book an internal AA flight through BA.com and pay with Avios + £8.60 does anyone know what it would cost me to cancel? I thought I would just lose the £8.60 but the Ts and Cs page on BA.com suggests I would be charged USD 55. I am not 100% certain if I need these flights and am happy to risk £8.60 but less happy to risk the USD55. Any thoughts?

OT – purchased Marriott points yesterday, base points credited today, but bonus points are missing. I’m hoping they arrive staggered, otherwise I’ll get into CS tomorrow.

  • Smiles says:

Can I earn avios and tier points on croatian airlines? Their flights can be booked on BA’s website…

  • Dave says:

I changed to ireland to get it in euros

concerned i wont be able to transfer the points to BA though ive had 3k stuck in ibera for well over a year

  • Shoestring says:

Anyway: the question naturally arises – so if you don’t have a HHA – Raffles – where do you credit the kids’ Avios?

ISTR I opened BAEC a/cs for my kids even though they were underage tots, ie the system is not perfect – was it that?

    • Secret Squirrel says:

I find dissecting the HHA, then do the transfer works for me.
I’ve dissolved and formed a HH account straight after doing the transfer 3x over the last 6 months. I expect a msg each time from BA but the 6x month rule doesnt appear to be applied.

      • Shoestring says:

the 6 month rule is a fiction – I dissolved our one to leave my wife on her own then immediately set it up again with me + the kids

    • marcw says:

      I believe with his parents?
