Check your Qatar Airways flight bookings for ‘mixed cabins’

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

We were caught off-guard yesterday when we covered the latest Qatar Airways sale.  Qatar Airways had loaded some fares which included economy segments when you searched for “premium only” flights.

These tickets were CLEARLY marked as ‘mixed cabin’ fares but it wasn’t clear exactly what that phrase meant.

It was even more confusing given that you could argue that Qsuite and non-Qsuite business class flights on the same trip may constitute ‘mixed cabins’.

It seems that Qatar Airways realised that this was not a good move, as ‘mixed cabin’ fares disappeared from its website yesterday afternoon.  It is worth checking any bookings made yesterday, however, to be sure that ALL segments show ‘Business’.

Advice please on crediting points .

I booked an SAS fare this week and was expecting to be able to credit to VS but no opportunity to do so on the SAS website so I credited to Etihad . Last week i booked another flight on SAS website so went back into this booking but no option to credit to Etihad or Virgin . I called SAS who told me , after 22 mins of hold , to call Etihad and also SAS no longer have a miles earning relationship with Virgin . I tweeted Virgin Atlantic who insist they do still have a relationship with SAS
Can anyone help me out ? It s all getting a bit kafka.
    Thanks

    • DB2020 says:

After you have flown on your booked flights, fill in a claim form on Virgin Atlantic’s website and enclose scanned copies of the boarding passes and a copy of the e ticket. Virgin will sort it out for you. Takes about 4-6 weeks for the miles and tier points to be credited to your VFC account.

  • SL says:

Are there any issues/is it possible to pay my wife’s plat business balance using my personal Curve card linked to Virgin? Thanks.

  • Jon Arnold says:

So I got their email last week showing ‘Business Class to Seychelles for £1600’ only to find that it’s business between LHR and DOH and economy (overnight!) from DOH to SEZ. I was more than irritated – isn’t this a kind of click bait? Highly and deliberately misleading surely? Giving the impression of a business class flight when it was only half business, half economy. So I have now unsubscribed from their emails… and TBH most of their recent ‘sales’ promotions have been poor value. However, I’d add that back in 2016 I did manage to get a genuine business class deal, London to Maldives return for £1650…sadly I have never seen anything as good from London ever since….

    • TGLoyalty says:

Sure was click bait and saw this popping up on google flights for a few days when I was looking for flights.

I find the real gem fares don’t appear in their emails and since the ME barricade they must have had to make more money from LH as the deals aren’t as strong. AMS – BKK £1k, BHX – Dubai for £900 and LHR – HKG £1.4k a collection of my best fares.

    • Lady London says:

@Jon Arnold in the time since 2016 the UK pound has dropped substantially against all major currencies. Therefore air fares that stayed the same in other currencies got a lot more expensive for us paying in UK pounds. The UK government’s APD tax, which is a higher tax on air travel than anywhere else in the world, has also not helped.

I’d lay off Qatar on this and give them the benefit of the doubt. They are being targeted unfairly by other Middle East governments who are using a thin political cloak for what are basically commercial attacks on Qatar to benefit their own airlines. I want to keep QR Business Class available in the market as it is massively causing standards to raise everywhere. So lay off.

      • MIke says:

So people should ‘lay off’ Qatar for sending misleading and bait and switch marketing because you like them. I see.

        • Russ 😷 says:

Oh well if it’s on Wiki it must be true…..

        • TGLoyalty says:

Being naive if you don’t think the other GCC Countries aren’t all at it.

          • MIke says:

Being naive if you think Qatar aren’t one of the worst offenders.

          • TGLoyalty says:

That’s ok then the rest aren’t as bad as Qatar. My point is theyre all up to it.

The fact Oman keeps dealing with Qatar means I’m inclined to think it’s not all about funding Terrorists, but i know nothing of what’s really going on behind closed doors. That goes for USA and UK too.

        • Russ 😷 says:

          idiot.

        • Lady London says:

Just cos you’re not a polymath like @Shoestring

        • Shoestring says:

          thanks lol

managed to get 5x of the Morrisons 2x ribeye steaks plus 1.2kg chips (£5) yesterday with my 20% off making it £4

good looking steaks as well – Sunday lunch for moi & the boys coming right up 🙂

        • Cat says:

Shoestring is entitled to express his opinion as much as any of us are, and I think most of us here appreciate his tips far more than cowardly, anonymous, pointless insults like this.

          Jog on.

        • Lyn says:

          Well said Cat.

        • Lady London says:

This place gets more like a school playground the more popular it gets.

      • F99 says:

I don’t think Qatar’s business will be impacted by whether Jon Arnold off the internet lays off or not.

      • Callum says:

The Qatar blockade has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with helping their own airlines… That would be rather ridiculous.

  • Paul says:

    O/T
Has anyone got feedback on the Transterwise multi currency account?

    • Venturelog says:

I have used it. It’s great as it allows multiple currencies to be available on your app. However I’ve stopped using it and replaced with Starling when travelling as I found the exchange rate better with Starling. One advantage I think TW has is that when withdrawing from ATM you don’t have to worry about any options on which exchange rate to use. If you time to get the best rate at a particular time in advance then you may be better off.

      • Lady London says:

@Venturelog would you trust Starling for a business account? I mean, do they freeze accounts out of the blue then refuse to communicate about sorting it for months?

Ive eliminated Revolut from consideration for a business account due to comments about that kind of thing and was wondering up to the £85k protected limit would you trust Starling?

        • Waddle says:

My friend has a Starling Business account and he’s never complained about it. Says it is good and stable.

        • Dave says:

I’ve got a starling business account. Never had any problems with it. To be fair I’ve never had any cause to contact them. They have full internet banking desktop type login for business customers now

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

I use it every few weeks. Always been very good. Rather than take the offer, I offer my currency transfers on exchange just my side of the centrepoint of the spread and they always seem to get matched, so I generally make a tiny profit exchanging currency.

It effectively gives you local bank accounts in several different currencies; with useful features depending on what you need such as accepting BPay payments inwards in Australia.

Rob, delete if not appropriate or replace with your own but we both get a 30Euro bonus if you join on my referral link.

    • Roy says:

App is a little clunkier in places than, say, Revolut. But apart from that, it seems to work well.

  • A270 says:

I have seen mixed fares when ticking Business class option on other websites too last week. I found it very unfair. Can’t remember which one but I think it was Last Minute website so just be extra careful when booking with anyone I’d say.

    • Russ 😷 says:

Well it’s something else for us to learn. With my work’s head for a moment this is why we give pilot’s check lists to follow 😉

  • Russ 😷 says:

Did anyone actually buy one of these fares yesterday? Looking forward to reading indignant condemnation from someone it actually affects. No? Oh ok….

    • HeadForShills says:

You don’t actually need to be a crime victim to hate criminals.

      • memesweeper says:

It has to be an error. Honestly, if you were trying to pull a “fast one” when trying to sell premium fares that weren’t end-to-end premium the *last* place on earth you’d want to try that is Head for Points!

        • MIke says:

Presumably then they’ll be offering refunds to anyone who booked a mixed fare then due to their admitted ‘glitch’. I won’t hold my breath.

        • meta says:

It’s not the first time I’ve seen this with Qatar. Usually happens when the sale is on either in the UK or other countries… So don’t think this is a glitch at all.

          • Polly says:

Meta, honestly have never ever seen this on QR before, and we are booking them up x 2 times a years, for years now in J to Asia. Was very very surprised, have to say.

    • Lady London says:

I think @Polly took a look at hers and discovered a long flight DOH-KUL was Y when thought was booking J.

      • Polly says:

Yes, checked that yesterday, and almost got a heart attack. But funny enough the one l checked for evidence was CPH KUL CPH, that showed Y in the DOH KUL sector. What a cheek.

Double checked our BEL KUL BEL one for Nov, and it’s J in all 4 sectors, for now that is! Hope it doesn’t change in the meantime. Was suspicious when the fare was only £1090 return from BEL.

Just hope it was an IT glitch. Don’t think QR would risk their good reputation on this one.

Thought it might be AA influence, as noticed it a lot on the LHR HNL route via the west coast. That the Alaska leg was in Y across the Pacific. And that was under a J search.

  • memesweeper says:

OT: I can’t seem to get Reward Flight Saver pricing to appear on a redemption from London to Catania (LGW CTA) in club this summer. Options (for four) are:-

    200000 Avios + £ 4.00
    180000 Avios + £ 100.00
    160000 Avios + £ 200.00
    116800 Avios + £ 564.00
    102400 Avios + £ 644.00
    88000 Avios + £ 764.00

    … I was expecting an option at 160,000 Avios + £ 140 … why £ 200?

  • Harry T says:

    @Rhys
Managed to get two seats on the economy upper deck section of the Qantas A380 just now. Thanks for the tip. Bagged 33DE – no couple seats going yet, but that row is empty. Not bad for £29 each. Going to keep an eye on it and change if possible.

    @Lady London
I know you were hoping I could get seats on the upper deck! Don’t have status but managed to be quick off the mark when some of the seats opened up at T-80.
