The new HFP chat thread launches – Sunday 22nd March

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

Starting today, we have decided to run a daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

We will review how this works after a few days:

we could potentially split it into a daily travel and non-travel chat thread

we may install some basic forum software

we may start suggesting potential topics for daily discussion

Let’s see how it goes.

We have sent this initial article to our email subscribers so they are aware of what is going on.   From tomorrow, email subscribers will not receive a link to the daily chat thread.  If you visit the site, however, a new chat thread will be opened each morning.  Regular articles will continue to be emailed.

We will do a separate article in a day or so about how we plan to run the site over the next few weeks.  Take care!

  1. Shoestring says:

I’m thinking of ordering 5 cubic metres of topsoil and growing tomatoes & aubergines out here in my 20 enforced weeks out here in the sun

    any objections?

    • ChrisBCN says:

I think you should if you want, and maybe take a few days break from here. Might be good reflection time.

  2. HarryB. says:

Hi HFP folks. I’d like to use my 2for1 BA voucher for an open-jaw trip LHR-MLE and then SIN-LHR. Their telephone center is (understandably) completely clogged but I’m conscious that by the time I’ll be able to speak with BA, the very few LHR-MLE seats left will be gone.
Can I book the outbound online and then phone them in a couple of weeks to add SIN-LHR? (providing that the seats are still available of course…) Just for clarification the return seats are available already (<355 days away).

  3. Well, 362 comments on the new comment entry.
    How many were useful?

  4. what can I do if the reward flight being canceled before departure? BA and Iberia claim that we only can move to the next avability class, which usually a couple of month after, recent days IBERIA cancel the flights to Tykyo two days before departure and refuse to rebook to BA flight and only can book iberia next avabile reward flight!

    • It’s a reward flight. Get the Avios back and rebook yourself – if a flight is going, it should have redemption seats.

    • Charlieface says:

EC261 says they need to give you a seat at the earliest reasonable opportunity, this includes revenue classes, and other airlines (including those which they have no arrangement and need to pay full fare). Extraordinary circumstances has no bearing on this.

  5. Hey guys, any thoughts on the below?

I had Qatar business flights to Tokyo booked credited to BA Exec. 560 tier points which would have extended my silver status. Due to Covid 19, the trip had to be rescheduled to a date past my tier points expiry.
Any chance of BA extending status for scenarios like these? I can’t be the only person in this situation!

    • TGLoyalty says:

If it’s within 2 weeks of your year end then they will

However why worry credit 560 to your new year and book a SH 40 TP trip to earn silver for nearly 2 years instead of 1 and a bit.

      • And let’s face it the status isn’t going to be used any time soon – no lounges open and few people will be flying until the Autumn, if any routes and indeed airlines are still going

  6. Does anyone have any idea how long refunds from Virgin and BA are taking to come through? I am thinking up to a month, although have had all the seat selection money already paid into account.I presume this is done under a separate scheme?

    • I rang on Friday afternoon (both my flights cancelled by BA) and full refund is on my Amex this morning – I was pleasantly surprised.

  7. Kieran says:

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but anyone else notice that their 241 vouchers have been extended by 6 months without even asking?

My first voucher that expires end of October now expires end of April, and my second voucher that expires end of November 21 now expires end of May 22.

    Cheers BA!

  8. Duncan Riddell says:

    Travel Agent refund question!
Had booked in Feb, Business x 2 Return with TRIPZUMI from ABZ via OSL & DOH to BKK for 14th April flying SAS (Star Alliance) and Qatar (One World!) – do not ask how they are linked but could see all flights on both their websites!
Flights now cancelled if looking at websites but TRIPZUMI refuses to process refund and says their T&Cs allows them to KEEP up to 100% of money from airline(s)!!!!
Has also now changed booking ref to a new booking ref with ABZ to OSL (one way) which appears to be still running is now costing just shy of £3000….what I had paid for BKK return for two!
Barclaycard are also not doing anything to help!

ANYONE on forum with similar circumstances or can give advice would be MOST appreciated as at wits end
