All British Airways American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers extended by six months

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Finally ….

With absolutely zero fanfare – in fact, with no notification of any sort – all British Airways American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers have been extended by six months.

Here is a screenshot from my account to prove it:

241 extension

Note that my vouchers were issued in October / November 2019 and so should have expired in October / November 2021.  This is off a British Airways Premium Plus American Express so the voucher has a 2-year validity.

Instead, they now expire in April / May 2022.

For clarity, neither of these vouchers has ever been used to book a flight.  They are not vouchers which have been returned to my account following an enforced flight cancellation.

Looking at reader feedback, it seems that all vouchers have been extended.  Even ones which only triggered in the last 48 hours are showing a 30-month validity on Premium Plus cards.  What we won’t know for a few days is whether vouchers triggered AFTER today come through with 24 months or 30 months.

Hopefully you will see the same when you go into your British Airways Executive Club account.

Managed to get mine extended too. I’d used my voucher for a trip in April, and the flights got cancelled. Managed to get through to someone on the Gold line who confirmed that I would get the voucher back with a 6 month extension, and the Avios and fees/taxes back too. The voucher is already showing in my account, but the Avios and cash element would take a few days, I was told.

  • Dee says:

Let’s now wait for the status extension, fingers crossed…

    • AJA says:

      +1 Hopefully by 12 months 🙂

    • Sunguy says:

Oddly, when I look in the app it shows my date as:

      08 May 20..

(but shows my card expiry 30 June 2020) – on the web pages, it shows as 08 May 2020 – so, not sure whats happening there – but there is something going on…..

      • AJA says:

Your Tier Point earning year ends on the 8th. Your card and tier status is valid until the end of the following month.

  • Coucou says:

All 3 vouchers have been extended here.

  • meta says:

I just noticed that even my partner’s voucher that was used in February for next year also got extended by 6 months.

  • Genghis says:

We have flights booked for August still in the diary. Thoughts on BA extending the 241 on cancelled flights in the future should we need to cancel due to corona?

    • Dave says:

Expiry date on used vouchers has also been pushed out so should be fine if you cancel.

      • Genghis says:

        How do you know?

        • mr_jetlag says:

Exec Club – Manage my account – My evouchers

there should be a section for “Used” eVouchers with the booking reference and expiry date.

      • Tom Robinson says:

I had LHR-LAS booked for this Fri 27 and rtn on Mon 30. Club World Companion voucher redemption.
Trip and flight has been cancelled so called BA to refund. Got the Voucher back and it has been extended, which is really good.
On a slightly separate note, when i called BA I completely forgot that I had also paid upwards of £400 for seat reservatiosn on the top deck…..Does anyone have any advice to maximise the chances of getting a refund for the seat reservations?

  • A13 says:

One sitting in my account now has been extended.
I hope the one which will be returned to my account during the refund process will also be extended..

    • A13 says:

Edit: Just looked in the ‘used’ vouchers – the expiry there has been extended already.

      • Neil Macdonald says:

Where do you see used vouchers?

        • AJA says:

You can find it by clicking on My Executive Club Men, then Manage My account, then Manage my account. This will bring up a page with My Statement and My bookings. Scroll down to the bottom and click My eVouchers.

  • Steve says:

It would be interesting to see if new vouchers get issued with a 2.5 year expiry for the time being

    • Lady London says:

You want icing on your cake too?

    • AJA says:

I think they may be doing that if the voucher is due to be issued. Someone on FlyerTalk reports:

“I received an AMEX email over the weekend to say congrats you have a voucher. issued 20 mar 2020 expires sep 2022”

  • Vit says:

Emailed the loyalty team yesterday asking for 12 months extension — guess I was a bit too greedy. 😐
Mine extended now up until May 2022.
