The new HFP chat thread – Sunday 19th April

Sorry for the delay in getting the Sunday chat thread live!

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/04/19/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-sunday-19th-april/comment-page-1 The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working:

we could potentially split it into a daily travel and non-travel chat thread

we may install some basic forum software

we may start suggesting potential topics for daily discussion

Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

Another site is claiming that ” If you cancel a (BA) redemption booking without paying a cancellation fee you will receive the fees, taxes and surcharges you paid when making the redemption as a Future Travel Voucher, as well as the Avios back into your Executive Club account.” Is this accurate? I don’t mind taking the taxes as vouchers if I have my avios and in one case 241 voucher back into my account. Admittedly I have not been keeping up with HFP lately, too much information to digest!

    • No – the voucher is a combination of cash, Avios and companion voucher if applicable, you don’t get them refunded separately unless you cancel as per usual for an award booking, about which you probably need to catch up with some of the articles!

    • Not true. Avios and 241 are part of that voucher with a 12 month expiry.

Looks like HMG are finally using BA for repatriation flights (was disappointed they had previously used Wamos).

BA9116 has just left LHR for Ahmedabad, and BA9112 is close behind on its way to Goa (GOI).

BA 9115 is on its way home from Delhi.

Would be nice if we could throw something Virgin’s way as well.

  3. Sididdly says:

I phoned BA the day before my cancelled flight to arrange a refund. My booking was with Avios with a companion voucher. I got the feeling that the person I spoke to didn’t know how to process my refund. I’ve just got the £100 cash aspect of the refund back but no sign of the points or companion voucher which are more valuable to me.

  4. Looks like another wave of cancellation is underway. Just received an email saying late May LHR-BKK is cancelled.
