The new HFP chat thread – Wednesday 22nd April

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/04/22/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-22nd-april/comment-page-1 The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working:

we could potentially split it into a daily travel and non-travel chat thread

we may install some basic forum software

we may start suggesting potential topics for daily discussion

Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

For the ARCC do I need to wait until there is some kind of MR offer for adding a Supp? With the Gold I’ve always got a few thousand MR for adding someone.

Do they periodically show up with this card too?

    • Baji Nahid says:

I phoned up yesterday and was told that there are now no bonus MR points if you add a supp to your gold card.

  • Kevin Cecil says:

Sorry to be way, way behind the curve but for a Virgin to Hilton transfer, do I do the following?
Text or what’s app the standard Virgin customer services number with my Flying Club account number, Hilton number, name and date of birth. Is that right?

    • rams1981 says:

you need to include how many you use to transfer (in multiples of 10k)

    • @mkcol says:

Yep & expect to wait at least a week going by the above comments to get a response to initiate the transfer.
I’m sat in the phone queue at the mo as I have the time. 36 minutes so far.

      • Kevin C says:

        Thank you both.

        • Save East Coast Rewards says:

The Virgin SMS number is 07481339184, I think the WhatsApp number is different, can somebody confirm?

          • jc says:

Correct, WhatsApp uses the same 0344 number as their main phone number.

And just a reminder to everyone to get all these numbers from the official VS website, not from strangers on comment threads. We could be malicious!

      • @mkcol says:

So I sat in the phone queue & it took about an hour all told to get the transaction done.
He did warn that as it was a large transfer to watch my email for a data protection questionnaire.

  • Tony says:

Hi, can anyone offer any advice please?
We are now not going obviously, but we had a trip to the US booked with BA and Delta separately.
We have managed to cancel the BA flight ok, but as yet not with the internal flights with Delta.
I received an email advising me that Delta have changed the flight times and stating that I can cancel but would get an eCredit (which I don’t want). Is there any way I can cancel for a full refund?

    • Doug M says:

How bigger time change? Has the flight number changed? Essentially if the flight number has changed or the arrival time by more than a certain amount you can get a proper refund. I think the certain amount with Delta is 90 minutes. The US airlines have been reminded by the DOT that they must give refunds were they’ve cancelled flights, if the customer so chooses.

      • Tony says:

Hi Doug, the time differences are now 2 hours 10 min inbound and and1 hour 45 outbound. The flight numbers have both changed.

        • Doug M says:

If the flight numbers have changed then they’ve rebooked you, which you don’t have to accept. I’d call them and say you want a refund, not a rebooking. If they resist, which to be fair neither AA or Alaska have with me, then mention DOT reminder to airlines that customers have a right to a refund where the original flight has been cancelled.

        • Doug M says:

AA actual refund took about 5 daysM thought that was very good. Alaska I have not had the money yet, phone agent said she thought they were taking longer than the quoted 7 days. No idea of refund times with Delta. These really are difficult times for airlines and I’m prepared to give them a few weeks before looking at S75 or chargeback.

  • Aston100 says:

Hi all, what is the gut feeling about additional reward seats opening up to places like South Africa at peak times (Xmas for example)?
I guess with the likely demise of SAA and VS, BA will be the only direct option from the UK, and this might mean no need for any additional seats to come out since the routes will be even more popular.
    Am i right?

    • Chrisasaurus says:

Cant say if you’re right but I’d say your right to have that assumption…

    • Rob says:

That’s not an unreasonable view to take. However, lots of permuatations – for eg there are likely to be lots of spare aircraft around as other countries remain closed, so some may get put on this route.

  • Scallder says:

I know a few people had reported not getting the 25k points or gifting Platinum option when hitting the lower Spire threshold. Just to say the points from April’s CC have hit this afternoon which tipped me into Spire and the option was there sitting on my account. So hopefully is now avilable to others who were having problems!

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Think they have just updated their IT as I had to contact CS to get my 25k offer added.

    • Andrew M says:

Thanks! I’ve just claimed my 25K after hitting 57,000 points this month.

  • Sk123 says:

Does anyone know if you get a bonus for spending a certain amount on the Amex Green Card? Also, any bonus points for adding a supplementary like we get on some other cards?

  • Nelson says:

Does 3000 avios BA Premium Plus bonus comes only with 1st Supplementary card or can I add more and get it a few times?

  • Darren says:

    Easyjet question

I have 2 one ways to Italy booked which I want to change to x2 returns in 2021 but I don’t get the option to add a return during the change booking process, will this take a call or is there another way.

    Thanks

    • Anna says:

I think EasyJet flights are pretty much 2 x 1 way however you book it so change your outbound then book your returns separately?
