The new HFP chat thread – Tuesday 5th May

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

Anyone noticed that there is a queue to login to Ernie? Also the payment processor does not appear to be working :/

    • Nick_C says:

Took me about three minutes earlier this afternoon

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Yes, this PM. I immediately thought something was up when I got put in a queue system like Wickes.

  • Harry T says:

EasyJet has opened up the first Bank Holiday weekend in May 2021. Managed to get some seats from Newcastle to Barcelona for about £68 each. Tickets seem to be selling fast – 3 or 4 left on our flights now.

    • BigSi says:

@HarryT thanks. I was waiting for flights for that first weekend in May and just booked. I have so many flights lined up, hope I will be able to take at least some of them!

      • Harry T says:

You’re welcome – hope you found a good deal! Let’s hope that flights are somewhat back to normal by then…

  • Anna says:

Has anyone had success getting through to recently to use an upgrade voucher? I am toying with the idea of booking a Xmas market trip in December. If travel is back on by then, at least we’ll still just about be covered by EHIC!

  • Stringyshoes says:

UK now top of the Euro league for pussycat deaths! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 Go Boris!

    • Harry T says:

It’s okay because he said we are doing well. The electorate is more interested in being reassured and emotionally invigorated than being informed and calculated, as previous Boris led campaigns have demonstrated clearly.

    • Nick_C says:

In terms of pure numbers, yes.

But in terms of deaths per capita, Belgium Spain and Italy all appear to have fared worse.

      • Online Edinburgh says:

Not defending Boris, but it’s clear from the BBC reports that Spain and Italy did not include carehome deaths in their totals.

    • T says:

Surely you mean “Go people who think there is a zero risk of transmission travelling to Australia?”

Oh wait. You think there is zero risk of transmission if you go to Australia. Deluded!

  • Boi says:

I read here creation charge interest for Revolut top ups. Do you still earn points for the transaction?
(Barclaycard doesn’t award points in that scenario).

    • Sundar says:

You should try to NOT get points for the interest “transaction”, keep it under a pound and you will not earn points.
The base transaction earns points in the case of Chadwick. ( Following on from the usage in this forum)

      • Boi says:

Sundar sorry I don’t understand your statement.
Thanks SS. My creation is in credit as I overpaid my last bill.

        • Sundar says:

It was in jest – The actual load will give points. For the interest that is charged as a separate transaction, you should try and keep the interest as low as possible, ideally in pennies and therefore not earn any points for that.
