We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

    Thanks to @BrightonReader, @Harry T and @Lyn for feedback on BA Holidays and amex Travel yesterday. I called BA Holidays today (10 minute hold at 10:10), CSA was very nice and said she would refund my hotel stay but it would take up to 14 days. No confirmation email received so far though so I guess I will just have to wait and see but I certainly believe she processed it. I’ll call amex Travel when they reopen on Monday.

    Sky are reporting that VS have appointed administrators to be on standby in case they are heading for insolvency.

    Is this all part of the plan? No doubt our balances will all be lovely and the future is rosy.

      It must be, the article says a more viable future airline emerges from a pre pack administration and part of VS plan to show the Govt it’s doing all it can before a bailout or saying look we are going under so you gotta help us!

      A pre-pack administration makes sense, if Branson is ready to step in and immediately buy it back from the administrators.

          Why would anyone recommend buying miles right now unless less than half price is beyond me!

        So is this what Branson wants? Because if he could buy the pre-pack, why isn´t he putting the money now on VS?

          The pre-pack will cost him £1. The issue is the slots though.

        But If they do file for administration they automatically lose their slots and have to return the planes to leaseholders so without either of these, newco airlines won’t be very profitable either.

          Added that in. The planes are not an issue – the leaseholders will almost certainly lease them back. I don’t see much alternative demand at present. The slots are secured on the £220m loan which would need repaying, assuming a mechanism for transferring the slots could be found.

    REBOOK by 11 May? I have an all AVIOS flight that was cancelled. We were to depart tomorrow to PISA. Do I need to rebook by today/tomorrow? Also, per HFP ‘AVIOS flight cancelled by BA?” update of Tuesday 5th May you say I can book ‘up to 12 months from the date your ticket was originally issued.” These are flights to Milan and back from Turin. Booked Nov 19, 2019. I want to go next May, not before November! Help please

      If you want to go next May then you can’t use the rebooking facility online because you’re outside the 12 months from ticket issuance. You need to call BA, request the return of the Avios and cash (will be done immediately) and then rebook for May 2021 when flights become available, which will be mid May to mid June 2020 depending on date.

    BA phone numbers: Pls repeat ‘other’ numbers that work. I recall seeing a Nottingham number or similar? Anyone know if ringing Germany BA cust serv is quicker? That’s +494215575758. Most Vodafone plans include 500 minutes to European countries so maybe try this if feedback from a few of you says ‘try Germany’ or ‘try xxx country’. Thanks.

      Did ring Germany and held for about 20 minutes including being transferred to another team so not bad

            I called them up and they said it will take up to 80 days to get into the account. Call them up to make sure that the correct clubcard is linked to your name

          If you are going to formally complain then I hope that you genuinely do have a pet, and that it stays well!

          I’m sure you are honest, but taking out insurance for an imaginary pet with the sole intention of getting clubcard points might be considered to be fraud. The game could suddenly become very serious indeed.

    Oh god, I have flights that were ticketed by virgin but were to go on KLM and Delta. If virgin goes bust i believe i may lose my tickets unless DELTA OR KLM would like to honour these 🙁
    I have become stressed as I have saved a lot for these flights and I would be absolutely gutted if I lose these 🙁

    RFS – does a purchase of points count for restarting the 12mth clock? BA website unhelpfully says “collect” which I do not see defined.

      Tesco Club Card would be another simple option if it is applicable.

      I did a Tesco transfer of £2.50 to keep mine alive. Virgin phone staff were spectacularly disdainful and unhelpful when I had phoned for advice on ways to stop my miles expiring.

      Luckily Shoestring came to the rescue and said move Tesco points and it worked – expiry date 3 years.

      Tbh that experience with Vurgin staff when buying points or moving Tesco must have been known to them as a solution but they couldn’t care less as I wasn’t a big collector I guess, might be one reason I had no qualms moving my little stash straight out to Hilton in March.

      Don’t give up those of you with an investment in Virgun though – the chickens never seem to roost with them they will probably survive somehow.

        Apologies following on from Baji:s comment I thought you meant Virgin as well. My solution does work as well for BA too I think.
