The new HFP chat thread – Saturday 6th June

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here:  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

Just a quick comment to let everyone know I (not US citizen, not currently or previously resident) managed to get a US credit card.

My route was HSBC expat premier based in Jersey (can qualify on income alone – although it does need £100k) -> Auto qualification to HSBC US premier current account, then they just let me apply for the credit card.

Was rather surprised it worked but it did.

    • Harry T says:

Did you use a US address in the application?

    • Spk says:

I assume you are not going to use the card in uk to avoid the fx fees? If yes, what’s the benefit compared to IDC Plat?

      • Spk says:

Oops wrongly assumed it was US Amex plat.

        • Joe says:

Im British but live in Switzerland. Wanted a good non-Amex card as Amex acceptance here is patchy. Obviously the good uk ones come with fx fees so this is why I put the effort into going for the 0 fx us one.

Curve only gives you a certain amount per month 0 fx – and I used this allowance to spend in euros across the border in Germany where shopping is much cheaper. Now I’ll probably just use the us hsbc premier.

    • Charlieface says:

Did they ask you for an ITIN number (SSN equivalent)?

  • SammyJ says:

Does anyone have a copy of the Norwegian Airlines presentation to bond holders that was posted here a few weeks ago, saying they wouldn’t fly LH until April 2021? The page has been removed from link on the original article.
