The new HFP chat thread – Saturday 6th June

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/06/06/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-saturday-6th-june/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

“Spanish government pledged to sue 17 airlines for failing to inform travellers about their right to a refund for flights cancelled during the pandemic”

Well, at least some government is attempting to enforce actual law.

    • Anna says:

Interesting BA aren’t on this list after not only failing to inform their customers of this right but also disabling their website to prevent people from getting refunds!

      • ChrisBCN says:

Neither is Vueling, both curious omissions

      • ChrisBCN says:

They don’t mention IAG…. wether they mean that, I don’t know.

  • Oli says:

I plan to apply to an Amex Air France card in France to extend the validity of my 200k Flying Blue miles as I don’t plan to fly in the near future.
I am French, live in London and have a house in the sun in France. What’s the best way to apply – through the French Amex website with my France address or via a call to Amex UK (I have an Amex UK Platinium card etc)?

    • Rob says:

Almost certainly via the French website, as this is a French product issued under French credit law and (as it is an airline card) almost certainly only available to French addresses.

  • kilburnflyer says:

For anyone with S7 Airlines “Priority” status (achieved via their Status match to Air Berlin when they went bust or earned through flights): emails have been sent out with a an electronic code valid for enough status miles to extend for another year (eg: 20,000 for S7 Silver [Ba Bronze] or 50,000 for S7 Gold [BA silver equivalent]

I’ve been given a code for 20,000 status miles as I dropped down to S7 silver as a soft landing in March 2020, having matched from Topbonus Gold =} S7 Gold in June 2018.

Bit niche but check your emails and use the Google translate function for info in English as it’s all written in cyrillic. S7 are a Russian airline who operated mainly domestic flights but are a member of Oneworld so you’re status provides Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald benefits when flying on British Airways

  • Yvo says:

Re EasyJet – money back on Amex this week from a cancellation and refund request on 16th March.

  • Dubs says:

Hi all, does anyone have the email address for BA that gets a response back, that hfp folks have given out in the past? Been searching the comments of past articles and not found it yet.
Want to pass it on to a friend who works for the nhs and cancelled their next week flights before the lock down and covid waviers due to being deployed into icu wards.

    • RK says:

Not sure if you are referring to BA Refund helper, but that is in Flyertalk.

  • Alan says:

Yep, Hilton have handled this really well both with refund policies and status extension. I’ll be happy to give them plenty of business once this all settles!

  • Syed Asim says:

Re: Amex Business Gold card. If I have a Ltd company, when I transfer the MR to Avios, can I transfer to my personal BA Exec Club Avios account, or will a new one need to be set up? Would prefer to have all avios in one account to make redemptions easier.

    • Rob says:

The points are owned by you not the company. The whole credit card is in your name actually – you do NOT have limited liability.

  • Anuj says:

Does anyone know if the brook + Wilde mattress offer on Amex is cumulative ? Secondly has anyone bought the mattress, any thoughts ?

    • Lottie says:

Yes we brought a mattress when the offer was on last year and we are really happy with it. Very comfortable and the customer service was very good.

      • Anuj says:

Thank you for letting me know. Did you find it hot by any chance? And did you get the lux or elite. Thanks again
